Should I pursue M.Tech from IIIT Allahabad or NIT's?

A
Admin Posted On : October 13th, 2023

While choosing a college for MTech between NITs and IIIT Allahabad you can refer to the following preference order. The following colleges have been ranked based on curriculum, placements, faculty, research work, student life, infrastructure, and other important aspects.

  • NIT Surathkal
  • NIT Warangal
  • NIT Trichy
  • NIT Calicut
  • NIT Allahabad
  • VNIT Nagpur
  • SVNIT Surat
  • MNIT Jaipur
  • IIIT Hyderabad
  • IIIT Bangalore
  • NIT Bhopal
  • NIT Rourkela
  • IIIT Allahabad
  • NIT Delhi

The reason I have placed IIIT Allahabad second last is because IIIT Allahabad is known for its BTech program and nit MTech program. Most software companies don’t permit MTech students to sit for placements and prefer BTech students only. You can not match the level of IITs and NITs. Moreover, you will find no passionate coders in MTech IIIT Allahabad.

Is BIT mesra a wifi enabled campus?

AB
Arun Biswas Posted On : September 5th, 2023
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra

BITS Mesra is a large campus spread across 980 acres of land. So technically speaking, it is not practical to give access to the wifi on the whole campus. But it is easily available in the main building, library, and hostels. BIT Mesra is technologically advanced, which is also reflected in its internet connectivity.

Unlimited wifi with good internet speed is available so that you can take advantage of it for both academic purposes and personal use.

What is your review of IPM course at IIM Indore?

SR
Satvik Rastogi Posted On : January 3rd, 2023
Bcom (Hons) in Bachelor of Commerce with Honours, Shri Ram College of Commerce (Graduated 2020)

Every coin has two sides. Similarly, every college has its pros and cons. My review of the IPM course will list the pros and cons of IIM Indore and its IPM course. Fortunately, the pros overshadow the cons to a large extent

Pros

  • Early admission - The eligibility criteria of the IPM program allows students who have passed out of class XII/Higher Secondary or equivalent from schools across India to apply. So even a 12th pass-out gets the opportunity to get into IIM.
  • Comprehensive Curriculum - The uniqueness of the curriculum lies in the fact that it teaches many areas and not just management. The course is coveted by many due to its high rigor and worth.
  • Brand name - The IIM tag can be attached to an individual's profile right after the 12th without having to do a separate undergraduate course in any other field of study.
  • Placements - The placement scenarios are much better than that of engineering and law colleges. Even as a fresher you land a job of around INR 12-15 LPA. Whereas engineering students start their careers with nothing more than 3-7 LPA.
  • Division of courses - The Programme consists of 15 terms spread over a period of 5 years, with each year having 3 terms of 3 months. The subjects of the initial 3 years focus on the foundation and the last 2 years have core subjects that focus on Management.

In addition, there are humanities, literature, and skill-building courses, along with an option to pursue a foreign language. The IPM also has a group of subjects called ‘bridge courses’. They comprise courses related to information technology, intellectual property rights, or introduction to corporate law.

Cons

  • High fee structure - The biggest con of any IIM is its extremely high fees. The IPM is one of the most expensive graduation courses. Its fee is INR 500000 per year for the first 3 years. Approximately the total cost of this program is INR 3500000.
  • Limited Scope - The program offers very little future scope. This is because even if you decide to leave after 3 years, you will want to pursue Management itself. But leaving after spending so much on graduation is not easy. Also, people usually leave if they get a call from a better IIM. In that case, why did you even pursue graduation at such a high cost?
  • No specialization - The IPM course offers no specialization in Graduation.

Choose wisely after weighing the pros and cons according to your convenience and interests

As a 3rd year CSE student of BIT, Mesra, what should one do to land a good internship program?

HS
Harpreet Saini Posted On : August 17th, 2023
Studied at BIT Mesra

My brother closely followed the internship recruitments at BIT Mesra and here are his insights about the recruitment criteria of some of the major IT firms-

  • Directi - To intern at Directi, you must be good in all the areas of CSE. You must be an excellent algorithm programmer with a good knowledge of technical concepts and a project to support the same. Very few candidates are able to clear the first onsite coding round during the placement process and 1-2 get selected for the internship program.
  • Microsoft - Microsoft recruits students who are excellent at C, MS products and GeeksforGeeks. The multiple rounds during recruitment consist of- objective questions round, coding round, telephonic rounds, paper-pen coding round and interview. You must be good at C, must prepare well for Data Structures interview questions, and must have a good knowledge of technical topics. A good CGPA of 8-8.5+ definitely gives you an edge above the other students.
  • Goldman Sachs - The first round consists of questions on numerical aptitude and technical understanding. Your understanding of C++ oops concepts/C++ output questions/Data structures/Complexity/OS/DBMS is tested. This round is followed by a GD round. Make sure to listen carefully to all the instructions provided during mock GD. The 3rd and 4th rounds are technical and HR rounds respectively. Mention only those areas as your strengths in your resume that you are actually good at and confident about. The questions for this round include- Math puzzles, OOPS concept in (C++/Java), Data structures /SQL queries/Open ended questions/C++ concepts[Constructor/destructor/Virtual functions]/ Java Concepts.
  • Besides these, students also go for off campus internships at IIT BOMBAY, PlayEzio and other startups.

Thus, to grab an on campus/off campus internship during your 3rd year CSE from BIT Mesra, you need to work very hard and sharpen your technical knowledge and coding skills.

How good electronics engineering in VIT, pune is?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : October 13th, 2023

VIT Pune has two separate departments namely ENTC(Electronics and Telecommunications) and the other is Elex (Electronics). Here are the highlights of these branches

  • Academics: The branch has some very well-versed professors who help you with projects, paper writing, and non-academic stuff.
  • Examinations: VIT has a very easy exam system. There are both mid sems and end sems which lowers the burden and gives you more time to learn in depth about the topics.
  • Labs: The lab facilities here are great
  • Internships: Sadly, internships in core electronics companies are very rare. CS or IT students get internships very easily.
  • Placements: Only a handful of core electronics companies offer placements at VIT. In comparison to CS and IT, the packages are not very high.
  • Syllabus: The VIT syllabus is well-structured and updated at par with industry needs.
  • Exchange Programs: Students can also opt for exchange programs in renowned universities in Singapore, Germany, Canada, USA.

Overall VIT is a great choice. However, you need to consider the fact that this college has no branch change faculty so you will have to choose the right branch at once.

JS
Jayeeta Saha Posted On : March 30th, 2023
M.Tech in Ocean Engineering at IIT Madras (2019)

Naval architecture and ocean engineering at IIT Madras is a multifaceted discipline with a perfect blend of principles of naval architecture, ocean engineering, and mechanical engineering that teach you to design, develop, and maintain ships, boats, and other marine structures and systems.

A plethora of topics are covered under its curriculum some major topics being

  • Ship design and hydrodynamics
  • Marine propulsion and power systems
  • Marine structures and materials
  • Coastal and offshore engineering
  • Ocean engineering and technology
  • Marine environmental engineering.

This program offers internship opportunities in shipyards, offshore structures, and Shipping societies. Some points about the job prospects of Naval and Ocean Engineering are

  • The theory is much more intriguing and exciting than the real-life work experience
  • Beginners in this field have limited job prospects
  • Most desirable profiles are still not open in India
  • The job locations are limited owing to the nature of the field
  • Unfortunately, the pay scale is much lower than expected as the jobs in this field focus a lot on experience and beginners struggle a lot in the beginning.
  • Another option is pursuing MS or Ph.D. in the field to broaden your knowledge
  • You can enter Academia and apply as a faculty member in a prestigious Institute. Here, you can continue to conduct your research and work on consultancy projects to pursue your interest in the subject and meet your financial goals.

All in all, the scope of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from IIT Madras is quite broad, covering many topics from design, analysis, and testing of ships, boats, and offshore platforms to marine environmental engineering and hands-on experience.

My JEE rank is 600. Should I go for electrical at IIT Kanpur or CS at IIT Roorkee?

A
Admin Posted On : June 25th, 2024

As per the latest stats, you will not be able to get admission in CSE at IIT Roorkee at this rank if you are from the general category. I think that you should choose EE at IIT Kanpur over CSE at IIT Roorkee because of the following reasons:-

  • Taking EE in Kanpur is more advantageous than CSE in Roorkee due to higher placement percentages and more flexible academics, which helps to let you develop yourself more.
  • IIT Kanpur has a better NIRF ranking of 4th compared to IIT Roorkee 5th.
  • As of 2023, the average salary at IIT Kanpur EE branch is 26.27 LPA, while the average salary for IIT Roorkee's CSE branch is 27 LPA, so there is not much difference.
  • More than 250 companies like Microsoft, Fujitsu, Samsung, Reliance, Goldman Sachs, and McKinsey visited IIT Kanpur campus in 2023.
  • Electrical engineering provides you with opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
  • The best aspect is that if you later discover you have no interest in EE, you can always move to Software Engineering.
