The IIT Bhubaneswar is among the newly opened IITs in India. The institute was established in the year 2008 and the ECE branch was started in the year 2016. The first batch of ECE graduated in 2020. Whereas NITK is among the oldest NITs of India. The institute was established in the year 1960 and ECE started in the year 1979. So, naturally, NITK has a stronger base in terms of research & academics, clubs, society, and other activities.
In IIT Bhubaneswar, companies like Samsung, Goldman Sachs, Jio, Honeywell, Tesco, Adobe, and TCS participated in placements of 2020. 38 students got placed out of 39 students who registered from the ECE branch with an average of 15.8 LPA in the year 2019-20.
In placement statistics of ECE at NITK is quite good too. In the batch of 2018 – 19, a total of 97% of students were placed with an average package of 14.15 lakhs per annum. The highest package offered in NITK was around 39 Lakhs per annum.
ECE department of IIT Bhubaneswar focuses on theory and research work equally. Both institutes have well-equipped laboratories such as Digital Signal Processing & Embedded Systems Lab, VLSI Lab, Signals & Systems Lab, Wireless Sensor Networks Lab, Radiating Systems Lab, and Communications Systems Lab. Since NITK is older than IIT Bhubaneswar, the faculty of NITK has more experience than IIT Bhubaneswar.

IIT Dharwad is a recently established institute that attracts fewer companies and has a small alumni pool. On the other hand, BITS Pilani has graduated more than 50 batches.
The best option would be to take ECE in BITS Hyderabad or ENI in BITS Pilani. The reason I am against you joining a new IIT is that these IITs are not well-known among big companies and some recruiters don’t even consider them worthy of visiting. They know that these IITs can never be at par with the old ones. So it’s better to look beyond the IIT tag and go for BITS Pilani, an excellent choice indeed!
Many of my friends opted for IIITDM Kancheepuram. It has been established for over 11 years. According to them, it is quite stable. The infrastructure of the college is great and it is equipped with the best hostel.

The cultural and technical events get a lot more attraction in the even semesters. However, there is not much to talk about the food. Therefore, it can be concluded that this college is a good choice.

Among the two, Mechanical at PEC Chandigarh would be a better choice. PEC being an old and highly recognized institute whereas NIT Delhi is comparatively a newer establishment.

GATE exam is a tough nut to crack. Around 8 lakh candidates apply every year for the exam to secure a seat in top IITs for a master’s degree or getting into PSUs.
If you are targeting the exam, it will be early to join coaching classes. As you are currently in your first year, it will be better to start focusing, reading, and learning about the core subjects in graduation. It will give you conceptual clarity. Also, the preparation will help you in placements too.
You can also refer to the following reference books during preparation:
Topics | Author/Books |
Control Systems | B.S Manke or M.Gopal |
Digital Electronics | Morris Mano |
Signal System | Sanjay Sharma (Basic Concepts) |
Network Theory | William H Hayt |
Electromagnetic Theory | Matthew Sadiku |
Communication | Singh and Spare |
You can read these books as per the topics in each semester. Make notes thoroughly and solve previous years’ papers. Join test series at various coachings and try to solve as many problems as you can from different sources.
There is no better hack to crack the GATE exam for now. Overall, you will have to plan your day well in advance and follow the routine strictly because the time after college is a bare minimum.
While discussing NIT Kurukshetra and IIIT Lucknow I would suggest you go for NIT Kurukshetra. IIIT Lucknow is newly established and requires more experience.
With a rank of 17115 in JEE Main, I would like to suggest you go for NIT Kurukshetra. It has a better NIRF ranking than that of IIIT Lucknow.
As your interest leans towards CSE/IT, you can easily explore your coding knowledge or software skills beyond your opted branch. There is a good coding culture in NITs, you can learn coding from any branch depending on your interest and dedication.
You can approach any software company without any restriction of the branch at the time of placements. Moreover, NITs assist you with a remission policy which you won’t get in IIITs based on your family income.

The choice of institution depends on the candidate. His or her performance in the entrance exams, preference of subject, location, fees, etc. all depend on the individual. The placement percentage is similar in both colleges and same companies visit during the placement program. So, it completely depends on the student and his or her preferences.
