No, IIM Calcutta does not usually reject you just because of a backlog in graduation provided that you have cleared it.
Majority of the batch consists of students from top colleges like IIT,NIT,BIT, DTU, etc. It's very common for a large number of students if these colleges have at least one backlog.
I have seen many cases where people receive calls from IIM Calcutta despite having repeated most of their courses.
So no, a single backlog will not be a hindrance for your call from IIM Calcutta.
In terms of research opportunities, IISc Bangalore is a wonderful choice. There are around 50 departments and you can walk into any of them and contribute to research work. The professors willingly take in undergrad students for summer and winter projects. Some of my friends do research work even during the semesters.
Most of the professors at IISc Bangalore are good. You will thoroughly enjoy their class. The kind of coursework that is offered ensures that you end up in decent American Colleges for your PG. However, it is after 2 years that you will get to know whether or not you will make it to American grad schools.
As an undergrad student at IISc Bangalore, I feel that the schedule is quite hectic and sometimes overwhelming. I have classes from 8:30 to 1. After that, my lab hours are between 2-5, they usually extend way past 6. I barely get time from my classes, assignments, and coursework.
Even during weekends, which are a holiday, most of my time is spent attending extra lectures and programs in and around the IISc Bangalore campus. My seniors have told me that after the 3rd semester, things usually relax a bit. However, that also depends on the courses and major that you choose.
Ultimately, IISc Bangalore will demand a lot of hard work from you, but the knowledge that you will receive here will make you excel at whatever you try in your life.
There are many reasons why I will suggest you to go for IIT Kharagpur for applied geology and exploration geophysics. Some of these reasons include,
These points are more than enough of a deciding factor for you.
In order to change your branch in AKTU after completing the 1st year, you must meet the following criteria:
No backlogs in both semesters of your first year.
You must have secured 75% or more in both of the semesters of your first year. Also cumulative aggregate must be 75% or more.
You don't have any impending disciplinary action against you.
Availability of vacant seats in the branch you are willing to get transferred to.
For any more inquiries contact your college registrar/dean/director or AKTU officials directly.
One of my friends studied at KUHS University. Let me share his experience of getting the transcripts, which you can follow to acquire them.
If it is for WES, that is conversion of percentage to GPA then make sure attestation by the principal is not there. Because WES requires attestation only from the registrar or controller of examinations.
I think IIT Gandhinagar MTech is a safer option to go with than a direct Ph.D. from IIT Patna. IIT Gandhinagar provides better learning experiences and opportunities to explore than IIT Patna. IIT Gandhinagar CSE faculty is exceptionally good and will help you if you are willing to do Ph.D. after MTech.
Unlike PhD and MTech guarantees a degree within 2 years and so if you end up changing your mind later you will not have wasted 5-6 years. You can decide whether to do Ph.D. or not while pursuing your MTech and play safe.
The overall academic experience and campus life are better at IIT Gandhinagar than at IIT Patna. Be it the food, facilities, faculty, alumni, or placements, IIT Gandhinagar has it all.
Be it higher education or even a public sector job, the value of a distance degree from IGNOU is the same as that of any UGC recognized degree. This is because:
IGNOU programs are highly convenient.
IGNOU programs are of supreme quality in terms of curriculum.
Like getting any other regular degree, you are eligible to apply for post-graduation or any other higher education courses in India.
IGNOU degree holders are eligible for public sector companies and service job opportunities.
You are also eligible to attend the UGC NET/SET exams if you have completed your PG, UPSC exams, etc provided you clear every other eligibility criteria.
However, some private institutions might have policies that disregard degrees from open universities.
No, not at all. NITIE is one of the most reputed colleges in India. In fact, NITIE is a brand of its own. It is basically a government institute that falls directly under the MHRD. It has been standing tall and strong for the past 54 years.
NITIE has built tie-ups with the industry, all with the help of the several pillars on which it thrives be it Deans, Directors, Faculty, alumni, Student volunteers, and others. It has only been possible because of the trust and integrity that is shared between NITIE and its stakeholders.

I fail to understand why you are considering fellowship or practice options in the USA when India has highly advanced technologies and is at par with the USA. In fact, Neurosurgery is the one and only super-specialty in India that is known to have state-of-the-art faculties and super-advanced sophisticated instruments that are at par with all developed countries.
India now has almost all subspecialties of neurosurgery that are accredited by MCI. Once you complete your neurosurgery residency at NIMHANS, you will have a plethora of opportunities to do fellowships within India itself. Admission to these fellowship programs is based solely on entrance tests followed by an interview
These are the most famous fellowships that are accredited by MCI
Some of the institutes offering these fellowships are AIIMS, NIMHANS, PIGMER, Tata Memorial Hospital - Mumbai, CMC Vellore, etc
