Is IIM Ranchi's IPM program worth it?

NY
Neeraj Yadav Posted On : January 11th, 2023
MBA Master of Business Administration Degrees, Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (2020)

Yes, the IPM program of IIM Rohtak is actually worth it because it’s an IIM after all. Both Rohtak and Indore excel at their IPM programs. If you are not willing to sit for the CAT again and are not confident that you will get in despite trying this is the best option for you. But if you want to explore more opportunities and are confident of getting a better CAT percentile next year this program may not be for you.

IPM or Integrated Program in Management is a 5-year program of business studies from undergraduate to postgraduate level (Integrated BBA-MBA). Students will be awarded a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at the end of the program.

Curriculum: The foundation of this program is broad covering areas like humanities, social sciences, arts, and sciences. Other areas that are tackled by this program are management, marketing, accounting, finance, economics, information systems, data science, and strategic management. The pedagogy involves lectures, classroom discussions, experiential lessons, case analyses, simulations, group projects, internships, and mentorships that help in creating an active and student-favorable environment.

Fees: The total fee for the first three years of the program is INR 1,593,000. These fees do not include mess charges.

Eligibility: The eligibility criteria for the IPM program are as follows

  • Candidates who have passed 10 + 2 with a minimum of 60% Marks.
  • 55% Marks for SC / ST / PWD.
  • Indian Nationals & PIO / OCI Card Holders are eligible to apply for the Program.

Admission process:

IIM Ranchi Admission Process for the IPM program consists of 4 Stages, which are as follows:

  1. IIM Ranchi Reviews Applications received for IPM Program.
  2. Candidates are Shortlisted based on their Valid SAT / IPMAT (Conducted by IIM Indore) scores.
  3. Shortlisted Candidates are called for Personal Interviews for Final Selection.
  4. IIM Ranchi Finalize Candidates based on their Overall Performance in Personal Interviews & their Overall Academic Scores

Overall I personally feel that the IPM program at IIM Rohtak is worth trying.

What is the cancellation procedure of an admission at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad campus and the refund of the fee?

RS
Rijata Singhania Posted On : July 17th, 2021
Studies ECE at BITS Pilani (2019)

The cancellation policy has been kept the same at all three campuses.

You will be shortlisted for admission or put on the waiting list in the Integrated First Degree Programme on the basis of BITSAT. Then you are required to pay the fees in advance for the respective subject.

  • If the application form already has specified the respective program you’re willing to pursue, you will have to pay the admission fee i.e 28,050/- and the first-semester tuition fees i.e. 1,13,300/- within the deadline. In case you are still on the waiting list, you will need to only pay the admission fee.
  • However, if you’re offered admission but choose to remit by not reporting at the institute on the given date then you can forfeit the total fees, in case the seat remains vacant due to withdrawal. After a deduction of INR 1000, the remaining amount will be refunded.
  • If you accept the admission offer and choose to withdraw after reporting at the campus on the due date, you will be able to only withdraw the first semester fees, worth INR 1,13,300.
  • Now, due to the slide-up procedures, the seat remaining vacant will be attempted to fill up in the later iterations following the first.
  • In case you are on the waiting list until even the final date, the collected fees will be refunded back within the specified date.
  • If you choose to pay the admission fee, you cannot subsequently remit from the process that includes “sliding up”, which simply means opting for other options like reassigning a program or choosing a different campus than the one already enrolled at.
  • During the remission of fees, you’re not permitted to stipulate any order or conditions, such as changing the preferences, or other relevant factors that come with it. It will be ignored if even mentioned. However, if you’re one of the shortlisted candidates, then the conditions stipulated might be applicable.

The institute, by all means, can refuse admission on varied criteria without assigning further reasons behind the process. Principally, the ultimatum provided by the Vice-Chancellor shall be considered the final decision, regardless of any factor whatsoever.

What are some interesting proxy/attendance stories at IIIT Allahabad?

SR
Soutrik Roy Posted On : March 15th, 2021
IIIT Allahabad

There was a guy Tarun Agarwal of the Electronics Branch and a faculty, Shirshu Verma. I heard this story from a friend. According to him, no one knew what kind of bond these two people had. Looking at them together, nobody could distinguish who is the teacher and who is the student.

Tarun never attended Shirshu Sir’s classes but he had 100% attendance. Usually, some of the other students used to make a proxy for others. When nobody used to make a proxy of Tarun, then he used to mark his attendance. And this happened not once or twice but frequently. In fact not only attendance, but he also used to give him full marks in all his subjects. There might be some secret of Shirshu Sir that only Tarun knows. Most of the batch used to think so.

There are endless proxy stories in engineering batches and every story is better than the other.

Is it possible to change branches after the first year at NIT Calicut?

Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 21st, 2023

NIT Calicut has some of the most illogical rules regarding branch change, some of these include:

  • To be eligible for branch change at NIT Calicut, one needs to score CGPA of 8+
  • Only 2 2 people are eligible to transfer to another branch from a specific branch.
  • Only two incoming transfers are allowed per branch.

As a result of this ridiculous policy, a more deserving candidate fails to change his branch. For example, someone with CGPA 9 could not change his branch because he was the 3rd topper of his branch while someone with a CGPA 8.8 can change his branch if he is the topper of his branch.

So, branch change at NIT Calicut depends a lot on your CGPA and obviously your luck!

I scored 89% in boards. Can I get BCA at BIT Mesra Off-Campuses?

AB
Arun Biswas Posted On : August 16th, 2023
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra

You will surely get BCA at BIT Mesra (off-campus) with an 89% in boards. However, I would like you to reconsider your choice of pursuing a BCA.

I am an alumnus of BIT Mesra (off-campus) myself. I decided to go for a BCA because I did not want to take a year drop to prepare for JEE, unlike the rest of my classmates. I do not regret my decision, I have a decent job that covers my expenses.

However, I do feel that I am doing the same thing after a six-year BCA with MCA that I could’ve done with a 4-year B.Tech (CS/IT). Also, I might have ended up earning more with an engineering degree. According to me, if you pursue your B.Tech (CS/IT) from a renowned institution like BIT Mesra, it will be more beneficial for your career in Computer Science.

Therefore, if you are from a Science background, I would suggest you to talk to a career counselor and find out if a B.Tech CS/IT will be more beneficial or not.

Your study life at IIM Ahmedabad or Infact any educational institute is influenced by two factors:

  1. Your past academic records

  2. Your current motivation and discipline

So as an IITian you have an upper hand in academic degree. Now the driving force is your motivation. There are cases where IIT pass outs fail to top and also where an IIT passout tops the class. What are the best life lessons that you have learned while living at NIT Warangal?

CR
Chitra Roy Posted On : August 19th, 2023
M.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Warangal

NIT Warangal will teach you a lot. Here are some lessons that I learned during my B.Tech from NITW-

  1. Enjoy as much as you want at NIT Warangal but maintain good grades. Maintain at least an 8 CGPA. A 7 CGPA or below won’t leave you with many options, especially with regard to placements.
  2. It is comforting to be part of a group but don’t limit yourself and talk to other people as well. Doing so will give you a lot of exposure and you will learn networking. Also, the connections one makes at NIT Warangal stay for a lifetime.
  3. Don’t just study for good grades, study to enhance your knowledge. This is the right time to learn new things.
  4. Don’t sacrifice your hobbies. Maintain a balance between your studies and your hobbies.
  5. Don’t fall into peer pressure and accept a job just because it pays well. Get into something that you will actually enjoy doing. Peer pressure during placement season is high. Also, your parents will tell you to “settle down”. But it's important that you choose a career that you can pursue with as much passion and zeal, even after 5-6 years.
  6. Respect your professors and try to learn from them.
  7. Just take it easy, everything will fall into place.

These are some important life lessons that I learnt at NIT Warangal. I wanted to share these so that you don’t commit the mistakes that I did.
