SB
Sumit Bose Posted On : March 21st, 2023
IIT Bombay (2019)

As a full-time PhD student at IIT Bombay you can expect a fun filled experience and lots of knowledgeable opportunities.

The campus is beautiful with lush green scenery and is located in the heart of Mumbai, the city of dreams. In addition to that, the research facilities provided are top notch. Apart from these, you can expect

  • Working hours beyond 9-6
  • The ability to push harder with the publications.
  • Small social circles
  • Procedures like Funding Approval take more time because of the paperwork.
  • Seeing your batch mates from school etc. buying cars and getting married while you are working in a lab

All these things are okay if you are passionate about research as that passion will compensate for all the shortcomings.

Metallurgy at PEC Chandigarh or Environmental at DTU or drop year? I came to know there is option of branch sliding in PEC . So should I go for it?

NB
Nikita Bose Posted On : April 30th, 2021
Studied at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh

Yes, there is an option of branch sliding in PEC. You can change your branch after the second semester (i.e., first year). I know someone who upgraded from Metallurgy to IT. The upgrade is not a difficult task.

Following are a few things that you should keep in mind.

  • You can apply for branch change by filling up the Performa available in the Academic section on the mentioned date.
  • You need to have an average commitment towards your preparation with no special preparation. Only consistent performance in mid-terms will be enough.
  • There has been a change in the rule. Now, instead of two mid-term, there will be only one. So, it will be easy for you to score.

You can definitely go for changing branches in PEC by choosing a branch-like CSE, ECE, or any other of your interest. As for the choice of the branch you should choose the one that interests you.

How did your IPM AT IIM Rohtak go?

SS
Sanyam Sharma Posted On : January 17th, 2023
IIM Rohtak

Below is the experience of an IIM Rohtak student who did his IPMAT during covid.

It was always going to be difficult to conduct a fair online exam in this day and age, but IIM Rohtak took the exam to an all-time low. The following are the highlights of the exam:

The online exam was conducted in an 'open book' format, using Google Forms and no effort was made to proctor the exam - which means students could have their friends and family assist them using Google, WhatsApp, Zoom, and any other technology they could think of. After 45 minutes, the form would not even submit itself. To pass the test, the student had to maintain their integrity.

Every student had the same paper, in the same order. It's no surprise that within minutes of the exam starting, WhatsApp and Facebook groups were flooded with questions and answers. Most students are required to submit answers that they have simply copied from the internet.

Some of the questions were difficult to answer. This is especially true when the paper setters fail to include the accompanying diagram to logical reasoning questions.

What is the waitlist movement for IIM Indore for the General category in the past few years for the PGP programme?

GB
Gaurav Batra Posted On : August 26th, 2021
Studied Integrated Programme in Management, IIM Indore at Indian Institute of Management Indore (2021)

The selection list of every top IIM is mutually exclusive. If you get shortlisted by any of the IIM, you have a 100% chance of changing it, the percentile in CAT wouldn't matter. The conversion depends upon how you perform in an interview and the assessment of it.

Over the years, the waitlist movement has been constant but not many get a call from these institutes and choose to do different things in their lives, but they also do not choose any other institute over it.

For IIM LKI, waitlist movement varies a lot due to the following reasons:

  • The first might be the overlapping with ABC.
  • The second could be the conversion of candidates to A or B but they might not have made it to the L/K/I.
  • Third, only a few leave their seats to go for ABC in one attempt.

These factors sway each year and affect the WL movement. It is difficult for anyone to predict the waitlist for any of the IIMs.

How is Bangalore University? Is it easy to pass?

SR
Sunayana Roy Posted On : August 25th, 2022
Studied at Bangalore University

Bangalore University offers good academics. Scoring the pass mark is easy. But you need to put in the effort to score higher marks.

Courses such as Microbiology, Life Science, Biotechnology, Genetics, etc. are comparably easier to score good marks. The evaluation process is a little difficult for courses such as Physics, Biochemistry, Political Science, etc. Just solving the previous years' questions will not help you score good marks in these subjects. You need to complete the syllabus as well.
