Dr. Gargi Parashar is a Lecturer, HOD of the Geography department at S.S Jain Subodh girls P.G College, Sanganer, Jaipur. She has experience of over 3 years and 6 months. She has done her Ph.D. from the University of Rajasthan in 2021 and her M.Sc in Geography from the University of Rajasthan. She has also done her B.Sc from International College for Girls, Jaipur.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

Role and responsibilities is to make our students better human beings. To make them adapt to the competition of the world as well as exams, to make them understand the positive role of modern appendages of life and not to be emotionally weak.

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

I try to maintain a healthy relationship with students by encouraging queries from them, listening to their problems but within limits. With fellow faculty I try to be patient and cooperative. 

Each faculty member, organises and organises social gatherings in their houses throughout the year. Teachers and administrators can organise barbecues, golf tournaments, Christmas parties, and retirement celebrations. Certain may not appear to be significant, yet our presence says as much, if not more, than our absence in these situations.

How do you introduce a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects?

While teaching I correlate the topic with its practical and field applicability.

I keep on informing students about the latest current happenings related to the subject and prospects that can be used by students.

How will you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

I maintain a timetable of topics that have to be covered in a fixed period of time.

I surf internet, newspapers and quote any new happening that can of use for students. I ask them take help from internet for certain diagrams, images and I send learning material to whatsapp groups as well. 

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?

Campus placements are held prior to the final exam. These placements help not only the students, but also the employers and colleges. Campus placements inform students about industry standards and make them more employable. Students and freshers alike gain a good understanding of the job market in which they will be working. It is critical to have a basic understanding of the do's and don'ts in the corporate world.

Which strategy do you use to help students to cope with this competitive world?

I tell them about new magazines, websites, competition books and names that can be used by them. I keep on informing about topics that can be used in various jobs.

Inviting them to join in class discussions by asking them questions. When they are feeling the pressure of competition, ask them to consider how others are feeling. They could be in the same boat as you. My students will have a more positive attitude towards competition if they develop the practice of thinking beyond their own aims and concerns.

What extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of the students?

Yes, College have different extracurricular activities apart from the syllabus to enhance the skills of the students, which I personally believe that students must have these activities in the curriculum, these are Field survey, field visits, model making, also the atlas map spotting sessions are organized to enhance the skills of the students .

Which challenges are you facing to uplift the quality of education of your department?

Lack of modern technology such as computers, PPT presentation facility availability. Lack of conveyance facility for field visits.

What are the approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to teach students?

Relating topics with current news of TV, internet, past news.

Any valuable advice which you would like to share with the young minds?

First understand basic concepts in graduation devotedly. One should not get diverted by the rat race of coaching and find their own interests along with their capabilities in college. Development of skills by participating in extra co-curricular activities in college is an essential part of a student’s life.
