Dr. Manisha Gupta has been working as an Assistant Professor and Head of Chemistry Department at S.S. Jain Subodh Girls P.G. College, Jaipur, Rajasthan. She has done B. Sc. and M. Sc. from Bikaner University and PhD from University of Rajasthan. She has 9+ years of experience in the Teaching field and has also won the Junior Research Fellowship Award by CSIR-UGC. Apart from this, she has published several research papers in reputed journals and is specialized in the domain of Organic Chemistry.

Being the Head of Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

"Providing strong leadership to my people and development of our Department is my prime responsibility"

As a Professor and Department Head, I am primarily responsible for providing strong academic leadership to my team and in order to lead, manage and develop our department in the best possible way and achieve the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities. Along with this, I am responsible for managing and motivating all departmental staff and students to deliver and receive skilled education respectively in a positive, encouraging, and effective working-learning environment. Also, taking part in the college curriculum development process, representing the department to other units of the university, coordinating activities related to departmental websites, participating in college recruitment drives, admissions and open houses also comes under the scope of my responsibilities.

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

"By regularly interacting with them and providing my full support and guidance in need"

With the intention of ensuring a good relationship with my fellow Faculties, I regularly stay in touch with them, guide and support them whenever required and I don't indulge myself in any kind of gossip which can hurt anyone's sentiments. And when it comes to my dear students, again I provide them with the best quality education, address their academic and non-academic issues and queries on time and try to fix them on an earliest basis.

How do you introduce a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects?

"By regularly upgrading my own knowledge and improving my teaching methodologies"

For the purpose of enforcing an industry driven and practical learning approach towards subjects, I regularly update myself with the latest happenings and demands of the outside world so that I can improve and update my teaching methodologies and practices. Apart from this, I regularly engage my students in the latest industrial development and research projects which are done in their respective subjects, to give them an overview what exactly are the corporate expectations from them and how they can develop best skills in them.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it more beneficial for the students?

"Our faculty conduct rigorous research about market scenarios and after that they design the curriculum"

We do rigorous analysis and research about the latest developments, trends and requirements of the industrial world and education sector so that our curriculum stays compliant with the best standards and we can offer the finest quality education to our young generation. And I always provide my support and guidance to my faculty members so that they can develop strong and attractive curricula that are pedagogically sound, use resources efficiently and utilize robust methods for assessing instructional programs.

How do you prepare your students to deal with the outside cut-throat competitive world?

"By motivating them to learn from their mistakes and making classroom environment more interactive"

We believe that learning should be fun, challenging and exciting and not boring and monotonous. Therefore, we offer engaging and interactive learning lessons to our students so that they can understand and retain the delivered information for a longer period of time. And we also encourage them to believe in their skills, knowledge and experience and not to compare their individuality with others as they are best and unique in their own ways.

What extracurricular activities are organized in your college to enhance the skills of students?

"Educational tours and a wide variety of competitions are regularly conducted by us"

We truly believe in the fact that co-curricular activities are more than important along with theoretical knowledge for student's complete personal and professional development and hence we regularly organize educational tours, self-development programs, different types of competitions etc. 

Which challenges are you facing in uplifting the education quality of your department?

"Unavailability of qualified resources sometimes becomes a challenge for us"

As we all know that the quality of education is directly dependent on the resources provided to mentors and students of an institution or its individual departments. And the same theory applies to our college as well and at times we face a resource crunch which directly impacts our education quality and situations sometimes become worse for such students who are unable to access their work properly.

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach students?

"I use the concept of experiential learning to teach students"

I believe that experiential learning is one of the best ways to teach students and make them understand even the toughest concepts in the easiest way. And I would like to make it very clear that experiential learning is nothing but the best use of real-time scenarios and by doing so, both the Teacher and students become more aware about what they are doing and why it is being done and who else is involved with their learning process etc.

Any precious advice which you would like to share with the young minds?

"Thoroughly analyze your passion and make best use of your time and resources to achieve it"

I would like to advise my dear students and youths of our society to properly analyze and understand the needs, developments of the outside world and curriculum of their respective courses using holistic approaches so that they can contribute to the best of their potential and capabilities in society and nation growth. Also, don't be afraid of exploring new things and asking questions, just make sure what exactly you want to learn and achieve and give your honest time, dedication and commitment towards that goal.
