Dr. Govind Kumar is the Associate Professor and Coordinator, MBA at Dr. Virendra Swarup College Of Management Studies, Kanpur. He completed his Ph.D. in the year 2014. He completed his post-graduation in MBA and his graduation from Allahabad University. He has also worked as an Assistant Professor, Department Of MBA at Rama University, Kanpur.

What are the key factors that keep you connected and attached to the education sector?

“Working toward a student's overall development”

The foremost reason to be connected to the education sector is to work for the overall development of the students. The education sector is a very noble profession. Respect from students is what has kept me connected with education for so many years, as well as the nobility of the profession and sector. It gives me satisfaction to see my students succeed in their careers and to contribute to other students' careers.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure best practices in Industry?

“Curriculum designed according to industry standards”

The curriculum is based on the standards of AKTU and designed according to industry standards. Through our institute-industry partnerships, we ensure that the best practices in the industry are maintained throughout the year. This enables students to learn about the latest industry practices and gain hands-on experience. In our MBA program, we offer specializations in marketing, management, finance, and human resources. 

What do you think your responsibilities to the University and the students are?

“Maintain a balance between faculty and students, and oversee the entire MBA program”

I am working as the Coordinator of the MBA program here at CMS, Kanpur. As course coordinator here my job is to ensure the balance between the faculty and the students. I look after the entire MBA program which entails how classes are conducted, ensuring that the teachers are providing the best guidance to students as per the curriculum. Also, providing case studies and assignments to faculty and students to enhance their knowledge according to the specializations. Graduates of our college are ready to face the competitive industry.

How does your college fare in terms of placements?

“Our college has a very high placement rate"

Our institute has a dedicated placement cell headed by Dr. Akshat Gupta. Various MNCs hire students from our college and offer good packages to the students. Our recruiters include Bank of Baroda, ICICI Bank, Alinco, RSPL, Mirza International, etc. Our highest package offered last year was INR. 7 LPA. Our institute also has an industry partnership with Kanpur Logistic Park for enhancing the knowledge of students in the export-import business. 

How do you maintain a healthy relationship among the faculty members and students?

“Enabling continuous cooperation and dedicated efforts”

The teachers and students have a very good relationship. For the task to be successful, every individual's cooperation and efforts are needed. In order to provide the best-in-class knowledge to the students, the teaching fraternity works very hard. Teachers and students at CMS Kanpur are one big, happy family under the leadership of the Director, CMS Kanpur. We continue to organize fun activities for students and teachers, and this helps us maintain a healthy environment that allows students and teachers to flourish in their careers. 

What do you see as your College’s greatest strengths?

“Dedicated faculty member pool that is hard-working and knowledgeable”

We have an extremely hardworking and knowledgeable pool of faculty members who are dedicated to the overall development of the students. The most important trait for an MBA graduate is his/her presentation and analytical skills. As such, we encourage our students to develop and enhance these traits. We groom our students into skilled professionals who are ready to meet any challenge in the industry by using case studies, time-based assignments, and presentation sessions. Every Saturday, BAT (Business Training) activities are conducted under the guidance of teachers to help our students develop these skills. The library and computer labs are well-equipped for students to learn and polish their knowledge.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the aspiring students?

“The key to success in life and in your career is acquiring skills”

I would like to quote a proverb here, “ Shiksha is the milk of a lioness, who drinks this milk will roar like a lion”. I urge the students to verify the authenticity of the content appearing on various platforms including Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and other websites during this period. One of the best ways to gain knowledge is by reading books. Although many young people today do not like reading books, I believe they are an essential part of society. In the current economy, a person cannot survive with only one skill. Let's strive together to meet the demands of the industry.
