Dr. A. B. Maity is the Principal of the Haldia Institute of Technology. He did PhD(Tech) from Institute of Radio Physics & Electronics, University of Calcutta. He has extensive teaching and research experiences at home and abroad. His interests include optoelectronics, nanophotonics devices, and sensor systems. Moreover, he is the recipient of the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fellowship for postdoctoral works at Imperial College, London, and the University of Bath, U.K. He authored several books and technical research papers in International and National journals.

What is your leadership philosophy?

“Individual's beliefs, principles and sentiments are used to lead an organization”

My philosophy of leadership refers to an individual's beliefs, principles, and sentiments. It helps them to lead an organization. A person’s leadership philosophy is determined by his/her character. The theory is the first component of personal leadership philosophy. It refers to how you define leadership. Other areas are attitude, guiding principles, and behavior. Attitude implies the feeling and guiding principles denote the personal beliefs and values when leading others. It is necessary to have clear objectives and goals of the organization. One can contribute significantly to achieving the goal by setting examples. Personal beliefs and values are respected as a part of leadership. 


What can an inbound student gain from studying at Haldia Institute of Technology? 

“Provide seminars, workshops, and guest lecturers for students”

The campus gives students centered teaching-learning for the development of knowledge and skills of candidates. There is adequate flexibility in the reform syllabus and examination process for the betterment of students. The difficulty in academic level is eliminated by faculty through tutorial classes and mentoring systems. Moreover, seminars, workshops, and guest lectures are organized for pupils. It helps with innovative thinking. We give additional classes to raise proficiency in computer and communication skills. Students are also encouraged to undergo MOOCS courses for gaining additional knowledge. A comprehensive academic process exists for the overall improvement of the students. 


What is the top priority of campus for the next 10 years?

“To emphasize on sponsored research, industrial consultancy, internship and training of the students”

The campus has the vision to emerge as the center of excellence in the academic fraternity. The institute got two quality accreditation benchmarks like accreditation by NAAC and NBA. It is worth mentioning that ten out of the thirteen UG programs are NBA accredited. The institute obtained an A+ grade in the 2nd cycle of NAAC and waiting for NAAC Peer Team visit for 3rd cycle. The campus would like to emphasize sponsored research, industrial consultancy, internship, and training of the students in upcoming years. The state-of-the-art facilities through MOUs and research publications get in the organization. 


What are your roles and responsibilities to Haldia Institute of Technology and students? 

Organize sports and cultural events for the students”

The backbone of an institute is faculty members and they contribute to the learning process of students. We believe in participating management. Faculty members are instrumental in shaping the character of the students. They also undertake research and consultancy activities despite teaching. We promote and organize sports and cultural events for the students. Teachers are empowered with decision-making in consultations with the Principal. It helps for the smooth functioning and growth of the institute.

What are the plans that are currently designed for students?

One of the prominent activities of faculty members is preparing learning resources for the students. The video lectures and PPTs are prepared by the faculty members and uploaded to the institute website. It raises the self-learning ability among the students and offers flexible timings. Design-based problem solving and cooperative teaching-learning are new approaches. It was introduced for developing real-life problem-solving abilities for students. 


What extracurricular activities enhance the skills of the students to face real-world challenges?

“Sports, cultural activities, music, Yoga, debate, and discussion design for students”

Several extracurricular activities are organized to nourish the different abilities of the students. The students are encouraged to participate in similar activities. It includes sports, cultural activities, music, Yoga, debate, and discussion. Participation in such activities boosts competitiveness and confidence. This essentially calls for sound technical knowledge, the ability of critical thinking, attitude, indomitable zeal, moral and ethical values.
