Bhairavi Review at Wilfrid Laurier University [LAURIER], Waterloo | Collegedunia

My journey at Wilfrid Laurier University.

B
7.0 /10

Lower tuition costs, a good business program, the chance of co-op.

Course Curriculum :

Industrial Exposure: A lot of networking events for industrial exposure through business school clubs and events like DECA, Law panel, etc.Research wise: Not sure about research opportunities, not really known for research. Academics wise: The method of testing is multiple choice and not writing papers. Although it is easier, writing could be more useful in the future, but MCQs are good for establishing concepts.

Exams :

Applied through Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC). Had to answer 4-5 questions of 250 words max. highlighting why Laurier, and extracurriculars. Also had to submit an ABS (Applicant Background Summary) listing extracurriculars.

Placement :

Not aware of this. However, big companies sponsor competitions in our university, and there are connections through them.

Events :

Campus life: It is a relatively small campus, resemblant of a big highschool. It is easy to bump into people you know often, and faces are more familiar. Campus Events: The business clubs are well established and conduct many events bringing alumni and young professionals to Laurier. There are many case competitions held throughout the year. Comparatively, there are fewer recreational clubs, as most of the clubs and associations are faculty/academic based.

Fees :

$30000 CAD a year

Scholarship :

Got a scholarship for $2000 which was automatically given depending on my marks.

Faculty :

Faculty to student ratio differs for each class, from 1:30 to 1:650. Most of them are approachable.

Hostel :

Yes, there is residence only for the first years after which students have to take up leases in Off-Campus Housing. There are different types of residence, which can be found on the university website in detail. Since Waterloo is a student town, the demand for housing is usually high. Rent within 1 km of the university area can range from CAD $550-800 a month. If living off-campus, public transportation is paid for in your tuition itself. Most people use the bus and the ION. However, in the winter it is tough to use public transit due to the snow.
