Sami Brook Review at Wilfrid Laurier University [LAURIER], Waterloo | Collegedunia

Wilfrid Laurier University 2nd Year Student

SB
8.0 /10

I chose Laurier because of the small campus size, program reputation, and it is close to my home town. Laurier has smaller class sizes which makes learning a more personal experience and you are able to get more attention from your professors!

Course Curriculum :

The course curriculum shows a wide variety of subject areas including arts and science. I'm currently taking sociology of physical activity, human physiology, ecotourism and the environment, athlete development and biomechanics.

Internship :

Yes, there are co-op options for many of the different programs at Laurier. I personally did not do co-op but have heard great things about the program and pay rates. Co-op is an option but is not mandatory for my program.

Events :

There are many different events on campus all of the time. Fundraisers are seen on campus almost everyday and the campus is very inclusive of all different cultures meaning that many different holidays are celebrated here.

Fees :

First year I paid the largest amounts of money for tuition and residence costs. Although there were many other charges such as meal plan, bus pass and activity fees. There were many other little fees worked into the invoice for many different things.

Scholarship :

Yes, in first year I received an entrance scholarship for my high school grades and I used OSAP. This year I used OSAP. Next year I will use OSAP and have received a Laurier financial aid bursary!

Examination Structure :

Exams are different depending on the courses and professors that you have. Overall I think Laurier tries their best to accommodate their students to ensure that there is equity for all. There is a program at Laurier for those who require certain aids in exams.

Faculty :

The faculty of science at Laurier is very reputable and passionate. There are many opportunities within this faculty as well as all different kinds of support.

Hostel :

In first year I stayed in apartment style residence and my building was about a kilometre from campus. My apartment had 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a full kitchen, as well as a common room. This year I am living in off campus housing run but a private company that is also about one kilometre from campus.
