TROY’s undergraduate criminal justice major provides students with the opportunity to learn about the criminal justice system from instructors with real-life experiences. Students are provided an opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of law enforcement, the courts and corrections, equipping them to assist in shaping criminal justice policy.

Upon graduation, students have options to find employment in traditional law enforcement, corrections or the court system in jobs such as police officer, probation officer or corrections treatment specialist. Correction treatment specialists work with incarcerated individuals in an attempt to prevent them from committing new crimes after their release. The need for individuals in this profession is projected to grow by 18 percent by 2020.

Additionally, individuals with bachelor’s degrees may elect to work with local, state or federal law enforcement agencies. Many students in the criminal justice program desire to add on classes that will assist them with preparation for jobs in crime scene investigation, homeland security and cybersecurity.
