The Nurse Practitioner programs (MS) at the UR School of Nursing are some of the best in the nation. It was the groundbreaking work of our founding dean, Loretta Ford, more than 50 years ago which led to the creation of the nurse practitioner role and changed the way health care is provided.

Nurse practitioner students who pursue the pediatric specialty will provide high-quality health care to children of all ages across the health continuum, from healthy children to those with acute and chronic health problems.

You?ll gain the skills and knowledge to perform well-child care and developmental screening, treat common childhood illnesses, and provide anticipatory guidance for children and parents.

Graduates of the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program are prepared to address the many behavioral health issues faced in pediatric primary care, including ADHD, bullying, and risk-taking behaviors. They work in primary care offices, school-based health centers, hospital and specialty practices, and pediatric emergency departments.
