Bachelor of Science [B.S] [Art History Art Practices B.A.] From Portland State University

Many careers today require skills fostered by this training and we offer three different art history tracks (liberal arts, art practices, and design), a minor, and an Honors option.

The art practices track pairs art history with training in art practice, giving the chance to develop creativity and skill in both art-making and the historical and critical analysis of art in its many forms. This path is intended for students entering professions that work directly with art objects, such as in art galleries or conservation.

Within any of the three tracks in the art history major (liberal arts, art practices, or design), you can choose to?apply to the Honors Program. The Honors Program offers an opportunity for highly motivated students to follow an alternative general education pathway in lieu of University Studies.

Participating in the Honors Program does not affect your art history degree requirements; however, as part of completing your Honors Program requirements you will research and write a thesis on an art history topic in consultation with one of our faculty. If you are contemplating a career in academia or pursuing graduate work in the field, the Honors Program might be a way to move closer to acquiring the skills you need.
