- The art education program prepares students for licensure as an art teacher in Ohio Public Schools from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Key components of this major include classes taught by art professors that are specifically geared toward teaching art to children.
- The art education licensure program requires courses in studio art, art history, and education. This program features six courses that specifically prepare students for teaching art in the classroom. Classes are content-specific, and many have a hands-on component.
- This program also requires students to take classes within the Global Miami Plan for Liberal Education. Through the plan's foundation courses, students will hone skills such as thinking critically, understanding contexts, reflecting and acting, and engaging with other learners. These courses are in the broad discipline areas of English composition, fine arts, humanities, social science, world cultures, natural science, formal reasoning, and in the social foundations of education. The principles and content of the foundation are the basis for the professional education sequence and content specialization.

- This education must culminate in the award of a diploma or the issuance of a leaving certificate or matriculation certificate generally recognized as the educational qualification necessary for admission to higher studies.
- Academic records include all secondary school studies, beginning with 9th grade through the most current available at the time of application. Proof of secondary school graduation is required before enrolling at Miami. All documents not originally issued in English must include an English translation.
- Admission into the art education program is judged on a portfolio that students must submit for review.

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following eligibility criteria:

- While a valid TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or PTE score can satisfy Miami University's English language proficiency requirement, this requirement can also be met through the following alternatives:
- The student’s country of origin is also an English-speaking country and English is your native language.
- An associate or bachelor's degree from a U.S. institution of higher education

- Enrollment in IB English A at either the Higher or Standard Level as part of a full IB Diploma program.
- Graduation from a U.S. high school following three years of continuous enrollment will lead to placement in the ACE program unless additional proof of English Proficiency is also submitted.
- Most international students are not required to provide an ACT or SAT score, but they may use the ACT or SAT to satisfy English language proficiency requirements.
Note: Miami has chosen to make test scores optional for students applying to the university through Spring 2023 to ensure equitable opportunity for admission, scholarships, and honors programs due to the COVID-19.
