- The graduate program complies with the requirements of three governing bodies: the New York State Education Department (NYSED), the Council of Landscape Architecture Registration Boards (CLARB), and the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board.
- The degree programs are designed to accommodate a variety of academic backgrounds, both with and without design training in landscape architecture and architecture.
- Therefore, each student’s curriculum plan is tailored to the individual’s specific background and academic goals. They offer two possible paths toward the completion of the MLA degree.
- The intent of the MLA degree is to provide the foundational, historical, theoretical, technical, and skills-based grounding of the field of landscape architecture.
- The core of the degree program is the design studio that introduces students to fundamental design methodologies and they are asked to pursue and develop their design process and learn about research methodologies.
- Supplemental courses in all other aspects of the field provide the information that will be synthesized in the studio to reinforce the design process and end result

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Applicants to a two-year program should hold a bachelor's degree in architecture or landscape architecture from a recognized institution.
- Applicants with a bachelor's degree in an area other than architecture or landscape architecture should apply to the three-year program.
The GRE general test is not required.
Although individual graduate fields may require higher scores, The Graduate School’s official minimum sub-scores for each element of the TOEFL iBT are:
- Speaking: 22
- Reading: 20
- Listening: 15
- Writing: 20

The following required documents are:
- Resume/CV: It is the outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work, and/or volunteer experience.
- Two Letter of Recommendation: Letter of recommendation (combination of professional and academic recommenders) which includes information about the student, their connection with the person they are recommending, their qualification, and the specific skills they have.
- Portfolio
- Personal Statement: Personal Statement provides you with an opportunity to share experiences that provide insights on how your personal, academic, and/or professional experiences demonstrate your ability to be both persistent and resilient, especially when navigating challenging circumstances.
- Official Transcripts: Applicants who have attended and/or received degrees from institutions outside the US must provide certified copies and certified English translations of transcripts or records of all previous post-secondary education and of all degrees conferred.
- ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.
