Students will gain research experience in their senior year. Students also obtain real-life experiences by completing a hospital-based practicum covering all aspects of dietetics practice.
The four year program in Dietetics at James Madison University includes courses in many areas to prepare you for your career in dietetics. You will complete the general education program designed to provide a firm liberal studies base for your continued education, and courses in biology, chemistry, and mathematics along with your foods and nutrition courses.
The DPD program follows the standard James Madison University academic calendar with one course required during the summer between the junior and senior years to be completed in a distance education format from the student's hometown.
Cost to students, in addition to university tuition, include laboratory fees, laboratory coats, textbooks, and laboratory manuals, not expected to exceed $3000 for the entire program.
Mission
We are a program dedicated to providing quality education preparing students for supervised practice leading to eligibility for the CDR credentialing examination to become a registered dietitian nutritionist, while inspiring students to become engaged nutrition professionals.
The goals of the DPD at James Madison University are:
- The program will prepare graduates for supervised practice to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in clinical, community, and foodservice areas.
- The program will promote professional values in graduates.
- The program will produce graduates capable of graduate work and in interpreting and applying research to dietetics practice.
- The program will prepare graduates to work collaboratively and interprofessionally.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts of high school and other education completed
- Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 81 in ibt;
- IELTS: minimum 6.5
- Duolingo: minimum 105
- PTE: minimum 58
