Thapar talks

10.0Helpful

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose computer engineering because since childhood I have been very fond of computers and accessories and gradually my interest in software increased and due to that I took the computer engineering branch. The faculties of Thapar are very good. All of them have done their Ph.D. and are from IITs and they have in-depth knowledge about their subject and their teaching skills and methods are very good. They are very supportive and helpful. They are always there to help students solve their doubts. The course curriculum is very precise and there are mid-term and end-term exams. No need to take too much burden of exams. You can pass the exam even after studying for only 2 days before the exam.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The student-faculty ratio is good enough and each member of the faculty has Phd degree along and excellent hands-on experience in the teaching field. Some teachers rely heavily on the use of PPTs and Online content so there are some, very-little bad exceptions in faculty otherwise the board is excellent. Labs are conducted by different faculty members as compared to class lectures. The mid-term exams commenced on 25/09/23 just 1.5 months after the commencement of classes and the exam pattern and assessment level are quite high and tough as compared to my previous institute where I did my bachelor's.

Is the Dera Bassi campus of Thapar University equivalent to Patiala Campus? Is it worth the fees?

Debdeep Majumder
Nitish PalStudies Mechanical Engineering at Thapar University, 2023

Some of my friends studied at Thapar University, so I might be able to give you some information about it. So before you decide, here is some basic information that you should need to know.

Placement

  • The placement opportunities of the Patiala campus are similar to the Dera Bassi campus.
  • However, the hassle will follow up usually during the 7th semester since the daily journey might cause issues to students.

Faculty: It is quite good but not the same as the Patiala campus.

Facilities:

  • The Dera Bassi campus is good and has no issues whatsoever.
  • The guards in the institute are not as strict as the guards on the Patiala campus.
  • However, it does not have any similar sports facilities that you can usually enjoy at the former institute.
  • You cannot usually enjoy the cultural events in the institute.

Accommodations

  • The hostels are generally very good. The rooms are well established, furnished, and equally equipped with necessary items.
  • However, if compared with Dera Bassi campus, the food at the Patiala campus is very basic and can possibly be termed as tasteless.

The fee structure of the Dera Bassi campus is mostly low, but when shifting focus to whether or not it is worth it, then possibly it is not. Hope this helps answer your query.

Which is best: CSE IN THAPAR UNIVERSITY, ECE IN PEC, OR CSE IN NIT JALANDHAR?

Sabeer Chalana
Deborah SamLives in Gurugram, Haryana, India

Both branches are excellent. You must prioritize your interests. If all three colleges had CSE, PEC would have been the best option. All of these colleges offer comparable placements, with PEC having the upper hand.

In this case, however, it is clear that the average package in ECE would be lower than in CSE. City-wise, Chandigarh is unquestionably the best option, and the exposure you will receive at PEC will be slightly better.

The most significant advantage of NIT Jalandhar is that you earn the title of 'NITian,' as well as the opportunity to study in a nationally significant institute. You will have an advantage over students from these institutes in the industry because of this one factor. That speaks volumes about the opportunities and jobs available.

So, in that order, NIT Jalandhar > PEC ECE > Thapar CSE.

However, if you get CSE at PEC, choosing between NIT and PEC will be more difficult. However, you should choose NIT Jalandhar. The rest is entirely up to you.
