North Orissa University was established in 1998 by the Government of Odisha. It is recognized by UGC and its jurisdiction covers around 100 colleges in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts in northern part of Odisha imparting education to a large number of students at the graduate and postgraduate level. - Honours / Honours Graduate in relevant discipline with 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) from a recognized university.
- Post Graduate Degree in Sciences / Social Sciences / Humanities with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade from recognized institution to apply for Integrated BEd + MEd course.

- Candidates with a good academic career securing at least 55% (in case of SC / ST candidates 50%) marks or equivalent grade at Master's Degree in the respective subject from any recognized university.
- Candidates qualifying UGC CSIR NET / GATE / SLET test and awardees of Teacher Fellowship (TF) from UGC are exempted from the Entrance Exam only.
- Candidates who have already submitted a Ph.D. thesis or been awarded Ph.D. degree cannot apply.

North Orissa University Pre-PhD Eligibility Criteria
- The candidates must have secured a Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks (in case of SC / ST candidates 50% marks) or its equivalent grade points in the subject concerned from recognized university / institute.
- Candidates qualifying UGC CSIR NET / JRF / GATE / SLET test and awardees of Teacher Fellowship (TF) from UGC are exempted from the Entrance Exam only.
- M.Phil. / M.Tech. Degree holders are exempted from written Entrance Test provided they have studied Research Methodology as one of the papers and exempted from Pre Ph.D. Course work.
- Registration for Ph.D course after Completion of Pre PhD :
- Apply within one month from the date of publication of results, for presentation of the synopsis in the prescribed form.
- The presentation shall include Objective of the work, Review of literature, Materials and methods to be used, Possible outcome of the proposed work and tentative time frame.
