IIM Indore FAQs

Ques. What percentile does a student require to get admission in IIM Indore?

Ans. The sectional cutoff would be 80% & the overall cutoff would be 90% to get into IIM Indore. However, the actual cutoff for getting admission to IIM Indore is 98% with a good weightage in PI & WAT.

Ques. Is work experience required after clearing the CAT cutoff at IIM Indore?

Ans. Work experience is not necessary to get into any IIMs including IIM Indore. Students with work experience get benefits at the PI round as the interview will be then based on work-related but it is not mandatory as fresher candidates also get chances into IIMs.

Ques. If a student clears the CAT cutoff but does not have 90% at 12th, can the student get into IIM Indore?

Ans. If a student clears the CAT cutoff but does not have 90% at 12th then would not be an issue as the students require to have above 80% marks in 12th for getting admission to IIM Indore.

Ques. Does low performance in PI & WAT matter to secure a seat in IIM Indore?

Ans. Yes, performance in PI & WAT does matter to secure a seat in IIM Indore. Even with a high CAT cutoff, if a student does not perform well in PI & WAT the student can be eliminated from the final selection.

Ques. If a student doesn’t get 90% in CAT then his/ her 10th & 12th will help to get into IIM Indore?

Ans. No, students are required to obtain 90% in CAT but 10th & 12th percentages are also significant to get into IIM Indore. The competition is really tough but a student who scores less in CAT can not get into IIM Indore with the percentages of 10th & 12th as individually students must score 90% in every academic level along with good CAT percentile.

Ques. How much GMAT score is required to get into IIM Indore?

Ans. Apart from MBA, IIM Calcutta admission to its flagship EPGP course is granted on the basis of GMAT Score. Previously, candidates who have a GMAT score of 720 and above have successfully made it into IIM Indore.

Admission:

My primary and only consideration for choosing IIM Indore was the placement scenario which caused me to choose it over NITs which I was getting through JEE Mains. I had got confirmed admission in NIT Bhopal. A lot of people have been asking me about the placement scenario of IPM students at IIM Indore, and the common question encountered was 'Why haven't you given CAT?' The easy answer is 'I am not eligible for it.' The eligibility for CAT requires graduation in any discipline. As I am an 18 year old student who has just passed out 12th, how would I give CAT. Second thing is CAT selection criterion is such that you require 4 years of engineering from NIT or IIT, then 2 years of work experience and then 2 years PGP at IIM, which would take 8 years to pass from IIM, while I would be getting placement through IPM just after 3 years, which would be an internship of 2-3 months wherein the average stipend per month goes ~~ 2 lakh per month, after that if best match of the company-employee is found, you can get a PPO(PPOs for IPM have avg placement of *36.5* lakh per year at IIMI) or else you can sit in campus placements along with the PGP folks(who give *CAT*) wherein the avg placement goes nearly 30-35 lakhs per year. The IPM students have relevant coursework in management which causes them to beg better placements than the PGP peers. The IPM students get best placements in Investment banking, risk management, and strategy , management consulting(the top firms being *Goldman Sachs, Ambit capital, jpmc, Morgan Stanley, and cherry on the top being *BCG, BCN, EY, Arthur D Little and other consulting firms* as well as the top placements in GenMan and marketing are also begged by them, the average placements when you see the consolidated report of 2023, you will see 32.2 LPA which is taken after taking average of students across PGP and IPM as they are placed together and get the same opportunities, IPM being preferred over engineers by many firms including the ones named above. As I am a part of the process now and have been researching through a lot before selecting IIM Indore over the IITs, I know IIM Indore IPM students have better average and median placements as compared to the PGP ones. Now those people who ask might also be able to answer.... Why I and 90000+ students like me aspire for IIM Indore every year. But top 150 candidates get a chance to be in the college(who have 95+ percent in 10th 12th board exams, exceptional state, national level extra curriculars as well as 99+%ile in the IPMAT entrance.) I am sure that those 150 are exempted from CAT because of luck some may say or because they are *exceptional* . As exceptions exist *I will never give CAT and beg better placements than those who will clear it*

IIM Indore: 7 Answered Questions

How much mark should I score in IPMAT to ensure my admission to IIM-INDORE'S IPM?

Karuna MehtaMBA from Indian Institute of Management Indore (2020)

IIM Indore uses a holistic approach to select candidates for its courses. So there’s no minimum score in IPMAT that can guarantee a call. For final selection, the IPMAT score, past academic record, work experience (if any) and interview performance of a candidate are all given weightage.

Aim for the best results in IPMAT, but keep in mind that these scores won’t solely get you a seat into IIM Indore. The competition is quite high, so try to score as good as possible, and leave no stone unturned.

Instead of focusing on a particular score, make it your goal to perform your level best in the IPMAT. You can check the previous year IPMAT (overall and section-wise cutoffs) to get a basic idea of the minimum requirement.

How much marks did you score in IIM Indore's IPMAT (to IPM STUDENTS)?

Soumika BoseStudied at the Indian Institute of Management Indore (2019)

One of my friends graduated from IIM Indore and here’s what I got to know from him.

  • The students were only shown their composite scores in the exam from the 2015 IPMAT.
  • The exact marks in the exam are not provided.
  • My friend had gotten a score of 64.3 with the highest reaching 85 and the cutoff for the interview being 42.
  • The formula for the computation of the composite score is 60 (Candidate's Quant score – Minimum score) / (Maximum score - Minimum score) + 40 in Candidates Verbal Score – Min score/ Maximum score – Minimum score).
  • From my friend’s guesses, she had attempted around 80 questions with an accuracy of around 85 to 90%.
  • So my friend’s marks in the exam must have been between 260-280 (following the +4, -1 marking scheme).

So you can assume that a score of 64 translates to around 270. But do keep in mind that the cut offs of the aptitude test changes every year.

What are the chances of getting into IIM Indore IPM if my OBC rank is 61?

Nandini GuptaStudies at Integrated Programme in Management, IIM Indore (2025)

One of my friends opted for both Indore and Rohtak. He only got into the waiting list for Rohtak through the EWS Category Rank 80. It is actually a bit hard to get admission at IIM Indore.

According to a trend, which emerged from IIT and NIT, students are dropping out of their colleges to enroll in Indore because of its tremendous growth in the past few years. This has provided immense opportunities to students related to internships and work.

If you are an IIT/NIT aspirant and still confused whether you should choose Management from Indore or Engineering from IIT in sync with your interest in finance, entrepreneurship or consultation then you must go for Indore. It will also develop your business too.

During the 2nd merit list in 2020, students from NC/OBC category up to the merit rank of 47 got an admission offer. So, if we analyze from that, then you'd have a better chance after the result announcement of JEE Advanced.

Can a general category student convert IIM Indore or Shillong at 92 percentile? (With a reasonably okay WAT-PI) (with good academics but as a fresher)

Sushil Panda

While the selection process for admission to IIM Indore and IIM Shillong varies from year to year and depends on various factors such as the number of applicants, the quality of the applicant pool, and the cut-offs set by the institutes.

It is generally considered challenging to secure admission to these institutes with a 92 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT) as a general category student. But if you are from the EWS category then it is not that difficult. Also, the CAT percentile is just one of the criteria that are considered for admission to IIMs, institutes also take into account several other factors such as academic performance, work experience (if any), and performance in the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI).

If you have a strong academic record, try and perform well in the WAT-PI, and if you are able to demonstrate your potential for academic excellence and leadership, then you have a good chance of securing admission to IIM Indore or IIM Shillong.

What CAT percentile do I need for IIM Indore?

Rohan JainStudied at Integrated Program in Management, IIM Indore (Graduated 2021)

IIM Indore invites freshers with 97.5+ in CAT. Those with 90+ in 10th, 12th and graduation may receive a call at 97+. Work experience and an impressive educational and professional record may result in a call at 96 percentile. But 96 is the minimum requirement for a GEM (General Engineer Male) to receive a call from IIM Indore. For someone who belongs to a quote of any kind, the minimum requirement may further relax.

But a call from IIM Indore does not mean anything unless you perform well in the WAT and PI rounds. Only after performing well in WAT and PI can you expect to receive admission at the college.

What is the cuttoff for IIM Indore -IPM Aptitude Test?

Sidhharth JainMBA from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Graduated 2019)

Any score over 200 on the IPM Aptitude Test is generally considered to be safe. However, those with a score of roughly 180 are also invited to the PI round. In order to increase your chances of converting calls, you must work to maximize your aptitude test score.

IIM Indore IPM requires sectional IPMAT Cutoffs other than the general IPMAT cutoff. Therefore, it's crucial to perform well in each section.

There will only be 2 subjects in the IIM Indore IPMAT:

  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • Verbal Ability

It is advised that you take both exams. In both exams, the verbal portion is largely the same. The sectional cut-off and overall cut-off are difficult to determine because they depend on a number of variables.
