I chose chemical engineering because, to my knowledge, Chemical engineering is a vast Department where the application lies in every field of work. And one more added benefit for choosing chemical engineering as my course is I will find much time in investing my intrest in other new things to learn. Talking about the faculty at my college (NIT Calicut ), Almost all the faculty are the PhD holders and all are having their specialisation in their respective fields. Talking about their experience , they have been excellent in innovation of their own and Extremely brilliant in guiding their students to implement their ideas. The ratio of faculy and students is 1:49. The exams were planned as One mid semester and one end semester for a particular semester. Papers were set based on all the students of the college, I can say briefly that Papers were set moderate to tough . Speaking about the pass situation, it is relative Grading .So it ise easy to pass but not getting Good grade
The course curriculum is extraordinary. Usually before this year, we all need to study the same curriculum. But from this year curriculum has changed a lot providing the syllabus respective to their branch
Actually, my rank was 24k with my rank I can easily get a mechanical branch in this college but according to placements I have taken chemical. Most of the teachers are professors and assistant professors. The ratio is 20:1. 2 exams for a sem
NIT Calicut offers a decent Chemical Engineering program. It offers decent academics and placement. According to the recent placement highlights, students of Chemical Engineering receive an average CTC of around INR 9 LPA. The highest CTC offered goes up to INR 21 LPA. Although very few core companies from Chemical Engineering visit NIT Calicut placements.
It is really exciting that people are interested in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. There are many other topics in chemical engineering that you will start loving when you start reading them.
If you are genuinely interested in the subject then it will completely be your effort in approaching the professors to learn and to study more.
There are not many professors in the department. Most of them are Ad-hoc teachers who will be teaching the subject. If you wish to go for higher studies, it will be your effort in asking the faculty to help you out.
Category | NIT Calicut |
Total Fee | 5.42 lakhs |
Companies Visited | Oracle, Hindustan Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, Cipla, etc. |
Highest Package | 49.75 LPA |
Average Package | 12-15 LPA |
If you talk about the placement scenario, there are only a few core companies that visit the campus along with a lot of non-core companies. Overall, college life is good in the department of chemical engineering.
You should have a clear idea of what you are going to pursue after the four years. This way you can focus on a particular college accordingly for your undergraduate degree.
The only disadvantage that NIT Calicut has is the weak alumni network due to the newly formed campus as compared to GEC Thrissur.
Along with the placements, the brand name of NIT when added to your resume can help you immensely for your future professional life. So think twice and consider all the factors before taking final admissions.
All the mentioned NITs are among the top engineering institutes in the country. Out of all the NITs in India, the best choice is NIT Rourkela. As some of my friends studied there I might be able to give you some reasons. These are:
The fee and chemical branch placement details are as follows.
Categories | Chemical at NIT Rourkela |
Fee | INR 8.22 Lakhs |
Minimum Package | INR 3.6 LPA |
Average Package | INR 6.58 LPA |
Highest Package | INR 22 LPA |
The top recruiters include L&T, Reliance, Tata, P&G, Parle, ACC Cement, Aditya Birla, IOCL, PGCIL, NTPC, GMR Energy, GlaxoSmithKline, and more.
Overall, NIT Rourkela is an excellent choice. After CSE and EC branches, the Chemical branch recorded the highest placements. The return on investment of college is decent. But you should opt for it only if you can deal with and function under strict regulations and laws.
If you are interested in coding and aim to work in good corporate firms, then it is suggested that you go for CSE at NIT Calicut. But if you want an IIT tag, you can opt for IIT BHU. But this won't matter much afterward.
So, if you are focused on doing research then Chemical Engineering at IIT BHU will be a good option. You can also learn coding on the sidelines, which might be beneficial if you sit for placements.
Parametres | CSE at NIT Calicut | Chemical Engineering at IIT BHU |
Tuition Fee | INR 16,000 | INR 6.7 LPA |
Placement Percentage | 73.5% | 71% |
Average Package | INR 11.57 LPA | INR 16.27 LPA |
The choice of studying in a college pursuing a particular subject is entirely up to you. Check where your strengths and weaknesses lie and then choose accordingly. Both institutes are good in their own way. But it is your hard work and dedication that will prove if CSE or Chemical will be good for you.
If you are a Civil student, my advice to you would be to prepare for the GATE exam once you are done with your degree. The placement is quite low for core companies. Many students also follow the same.
Chemical students are known to focus on jobs and have a good placement in analytics and software-based companies. Many of the top ones also land core jobs.
My suggestion would be to check the syllabus and pick the subject you like. You will realize which subject has good scope and what does not. As far as Civil is concerned, most students land jobs at L&T. But, they will make you work a lot and you will not be satisfied with the pay. This is not the case with Chemical engineering.
Chemical Engineering and ECE, both the branches are in demand. The major scope of Chemical Engineering is in chemical, food processing, pharma, medical industries, oil, and gas, etc.
The major scope of ECE is in android, mobile, and telecommunication. The majority of the students prefer ECE because of two reasons. The first reason being comfort. Secondly, after acquiring skills in programming languages, it is easy to switch to the IT or software field.
Here is a brief overview of CE at NIT Calicut and ECE at IIIT Jabalpur.
Institute | NIT Calicut | IIIT Jabalpur |
Average CTC | 11 LPA | 9.9 LPA |
Highest CTC | 43 LPA | 23 LPA |
Major recruiters | CISCO, Bosch, TATA Group | IBM, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft |
Course fee | 2.08 lakhs | 5.29 lakhs |
If you don’t have any particular inclination towards any branch you can go for ECE at IIIT Jabalpur.
