The Electrical branch at NIT Raipur is highly reputed in India. Here is a list of its pros and cons that will help you understand the credibility of the branch.

Pros

The branch has an excellent faculty profile who are highly experienced and learned. Their Letter of Recommendation can shape your career for the better given that you have good grades and projects.
The department won’t detain you for skipping classes and I can prepare for GATE/CAT whenever you have free time.
NIT Raipur conducts several competitions like VIGYAAN, the science exhibition, robotics workshops, etc. that give students knowledge and interest in the field of robotics.
The college provides pretty decent internship opportunities to students in companies like Tata Steel, Vedanta, TVS, Jindal, BARC, etc
Last year, the branch received 62 offers in all and the students eligible for placements were 68.

Cons

The learning environment is not well-facilitated.
The lab sessions are monotonous and the equipment is obsolete
The syllabus is outdated and needs revision and upgradation.
Core jobs are rare so most of the students are placed in software companies.
The infrastructure is not up to the mark which affects the learning experience.
The gender ratio is poor, around 1:5 for girls: and boys.
The exposure offered is limited and very few industrial visits are made.

Ultimately, it depends on your talents and interests if this branch is good for you or not!

For an Institute like NIT Raipur, both the branches of electrical or electronics telecommunication are worth taking. Below mentioned are some points about the branches which may help you in making a decision.

Both branches hold good placement statistics. Core companies usually opt for the electrical branch students while software-based companies go for the students of the electronics and telecommunication branch.
The Department of Electrical branch has a decent reputation in college as this is a core branch which follows all the discipline and regulations.
IES is open for the students for both the branches and thus choosing any one branch is no less than the other.
When it comes to academics and scoring well; the students of both branches are exceptionally good. Ms. Jaya Jha from the Electrical branch and Mr. Shivam Singh of Electronics and Telecommunications bagged AIR-1 in Graduate Aptitude Test.

You can’t go wrong with any of these two choices, so choose the branch that interests you more.
