PEC Placements 2022: Highest Package: INR 46 LPA & 450 Students Received Offers

PEC Chandigarh is one the pioneer engineering colleges in Punjab. It is ranked 68th for BTech by NIRF 2020. It is a deemed university approved by AICTE and affiliated to Punjab University.

CSE is the most popular engineering course involving computer programming and networking, programming languages, computer software and hardware, etc. Due to the rapid growth of the corporate industry companies are in a constant search of qualified individuals to work after their CSE graduation.

Placements - 

PEC has their own training and placement cell which conducts workshops, industry visits, seminars, mock interviews and group discussions. They provide career guidance and internships to students.

• 619 students were eligible for the placement program. 
• 143 companies visited the campus and made a total of 449 offers.
• The median salary package offered to students was around 5.5-6.5 LPA. 
• They witnessed the increase in salary package by 26% in 2018 and 24% in 2019.

Recruiting Companies - Microsoft, ITC, Infosys, TATA, JP Morgan, Mu Sigma, Loreal, Arcesium, Goldman Sachs, etc.

Internships 

Out of 63 students 36 received internships. Companies offered internships - Goldman Sachs, American Express, Deutsche Bank, Sapient and RBS.

CSE graduates can work as System Database Administrator, Computer Programmer, Engineering Support Specialist, Data Warehouse Analyst, System Designer, Software Developer, Software Engineer, Lecturer or Professor, Computer Operator and Research Analyst.

One of my friends studied at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, so I will be able to share some information about their placement process, drives, etc. 

• Companies like Arcesium and Amazon might offer a 30+ package, though few students receive this offer based on their coding skills.
• Core companies like Sandisk, Texas Instruments, MediaTek, etc. may hire 4-5 candidates from CS, ECE, and EE departments combined.
• The remaining students get placed in different sectors like IT, Consulting, Banking, etc. These include BCG, JP Morgan, Amadeus, Smartcube, etc.
• TCS and Infosys are the mass recruiters, they will offer you many opportunities, though they might sometimes not be up to the mark. So try to stay ahead in the competition.

A news article was published in 2018 which assured that there are a lot of chances that PEC shall be converted into IIT very soon.

Firstly, PEC is part of the University of Punjab. If it is converted into IIT, then it has to be turned into an autonomous institute first, which has not started yet. There is still not any confirmation regarding the conversion of PEC into IIT. It is a huge thing and these type of topics generally goes through a lot of controversies. 

If you are taking admission in PEC thinking that you will get a degree from IIT, then you are completely wrong. You will get a degree with a tag of PEC.

It will be better if you stop thinking about the IIT factor. This institute itself a reputed one and provides amazing placements to every one of its students. So, you must be focused on your hard work, career and future career perspectives without thinking about PEC is transformed into IIT.

One of my friends is doing B. Tech at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, so I can provide you with some information about the college and how it functions. 

In the following table, you will get the placement record of B.Tech at PEC.

The placement percentage of B.Tech students at Punjab Engineering College is 93%. In this percentage, all the students who have CGPA above 6.5 are eligible to sit for placement, also included in this. 

Companies that recapture B.Tech students are Exl Services, Alstom, Goldman Sachs, etc. The average package offered to students is below INR 10 LPA. 

Therefore, Electrical Engineering placements for B.Tech students at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, are decent. The package offered to students might be low, but almost every student gets placed.

Placement depends on your knowledge and skill in that particular field. There are many reputed companies visiting the PEC Chandigarh campus for placements. And securing a placement offer in any of them depends on your academics and your performance in the interview. 

Besides, you must remain among the top 20% of students, be consistent and develop your verbal skills to ensure that you get selected.

Among the given branches the hot pick is probably Civil Engineering. As the infrastructural growth is almost at an all-time high currently in India. There are many opportunities to start a career or become an employer in the field. 

PEC Chandigarh is a very good engineering college but somehow it lacks a reputation in the industry and this college is unable to produce any skilled engineers for a long time. 

• Colleges like DAIICT/LNMIIT are less popular colleges than PEC Chandigarh but it has much more recognition and reputation in the industry which attracts many companies to visit the college for campus placements. 
• An electronics engineer is the one who can make use of their command over the low-level computer programming languages and make the computers do whatever they want them to do. 
• There is also a high demand for skilled electronics engineers in the industry but sadly no major electronic engineering companies carry out campus placements at PEC Chandigarh. 
• Most of the degree holders from such colleges remain unemployed or have to look for other opportunities through off-campus interviews.

Hence, it is not preferable to do M.Tech in ECE from PEC Chandigarh as it has a low reputation in this branch and as a result, you might have to struggle to look for decent jobs or even remain unemployed.

I have two friends who are Electrical Engineering graduates from PEC and are currently working in a good IT company. One of them was also among the only two people who cracked directly written. 

Being from an electrical background, it can be tough to learn coding in your free time and also cope up with your syllabus and keep your grades high. But if you are persistent you can definitely do it. You might also need to study some CS/IT subjects like DBMS while learning to code. As many students of the institute suggest to secure a job in an IT company you have to take off-campus routes, as most of the top companies are not open for interviews for the Electrical branch at PEC Chandigarh. 

But yes, it is possible to land a job at an IT company even after completing ELE if you can learn to code properly and work hard enough to make yourself prepare for the job. 

My brother is from PEC Chandigarh, so I might be able to share some facts with you. Some important factors regarding placements of PEC include the following:

• PEC has an academic policy that requires you to complete a 6-month internship in an industry or a research laboratory during the fifth semester. It strengthens the industry-academia relationship while also securing good PPO. This policy does not apply to NITs.
• PEC's alumni-institution relationship is one-of-a-kind because of its long history. Try to construct it at NITH so that in upcoming days it'll be fruitful.
• A dedicated Career Development and Guidance Cell (former TPO) is required to contact and invite large corporations to the campus.
• With the practical approach to teaching and the freedom to participate in extracurricular activities, PEC students have a lower academic load than NITH students.
• The final but most important factor is the ability (not to be confused with talent) that the students develop here being a part of a club or society.

Above all, study hard to gain good core knowledge, use your nit tag, and try to land good off-campus placement offers. This will certainly change the atmosphere on campus and your college's image in the eyes of industry. The change will come gradually with time.
