I chose Chemical Science and technology. There weren't many choices for the rank I achieved when it came to old IITs. I had civil engineering as an option at IITG but I have my interests in the software field, and hence CST seems better as it is a relatively less hectic branch. The faculty-student ratio in IITs is approximately 1:15 and hence is good. But dont expect direct contact with any faculty, most of the communication takes place through the institute's email and seldom irl meets. Some faculty members are passionate, and you thoroughly enjoy their classes, others do not. But all in all, they are good. The exams are frequent and timely, with moderate difficulty.
I chose Chemical Science and Technology because it is a very chill branch. We will get a lot of free time in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year so we can focus on non-core subjects such as coding, data analytics, finance, etc. We have 65 students in CST including girls. However, boys to girls ratio is 4:1. Our faculties are highly qualified. We are having our quizzes in every 2 months and then mid-semester and end sem which is a little bit hectic.
