Astonishing Startling: Review of IIIT Dharwad

Remarks :

One can be admitted to IIIT Dharwad through JEE Mains. You can give JEE Mains either in your 12th or in your drop year. The application form is available on the JOSAA website. You can find all the necessary updates regarding JEE Mains on JOSAA's website.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course because of my interest in Coding and technology in general. The student ratio in my batch is almost 1:8 (girls: boys). All the faculties have PhDs in their respective fields. Each course generally consists of 2 Quizzes, 1 Mid Semester exam and 1 End semester exam. The quiz is taken before the mid-semester and end-sem exams. The pass percentage is above 97%. It is generally easy to pass the exam.

Placement Experience :

The college placements are average. 7th semester onwards, students are eligible for placements. According to the college site, this year the average placement offered was 11.52 lakhs. Some companies that visited the college were Nvidia, Wipro, and other small startups. The highest package offered was 35 lakhs according to the college site and the lowest was around 5-6 lakhs. Around 68% of the students were placed in 2023. Some students are offered internships in their 4th year.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fees each semester are 2,00,000 Rs (including tuition and hostel/mess fees). So, each year it costs around 4 lakh rupees, excluding the additional expenses. Only government and state scholarships are available for the students based on their category and family income.

Campus Life :

The campus life is not very great. The sports field is not well maintained. Basketball and badminton courts are there in the M-block. There is a gymnasium available in the H-block. Not many fests are conducted in the college. The annual cultural fest in 2023 was conducted in October. There are a lot of clubs in the college related to different fields such as velocity, e-cell, return 0, etc. There is a library in the e-block. Most books related to the course are generally available. The classrooms have a TV and whiteboard. The visibility of the board is bad for students sitting in the corner of the class. The classrooms have no AC.

Hostel Facilities :

4 people live in a single room in the hostel. Each person is provided with a cupboard. a chair and a table. There are double-decker beds and two fans in the room. For washing clothes, you have a laundry available with washing machines and dryers. The mess food is decent compared to other colleges. The mess menu contains blend of both North and South Indian dishes. For every student it is necessary to stay in the hostel. There are no provisions for renting a room or PG nearby.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course as I was interested in game development and I wanted to learn coding. All the teaching faculty in the college have PhD degree in their respective subjects. Teaching method can be improved as they just read pdf rather than make the class interesting. Term exams take place every two months and there are only two term exams which are mid sem and end sem. Difficulty of exams is moderate.

Being the top college in Karnataka, placements are pretty good. Almost all the people get placed if they are smart enough to grab one. Placement assistance is provided even after the college is over.
