Iit (Ism): A guide

Remarks :

I took the Jee Advanced exam, it's application form and all subsequent are available on NTA's site if you have qualified for jee mains and are eligible to sit in the exam. An improvement I would like to see would be to increase the number of exam centers since me and many of my friends had to travel for hours just to be able to give the paper.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I like a good package, and coming from a traditional middle-class family, my only options were engineering or medical. Since I was good at mathematics, it was a no-brainer what I would choose. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 21:1, the quality of education here is nominally better than that of other colleges. The teachers are highly qualified professionals in their respective fields, but the method of their teaching makes me wonder whether good teaching should be made criteria when giving jobs to educators, and not just academic qualifications.

Placement Experience :

Students become eligible for placements from the 7th semester, and a plethora of companies visit the college with offers ranging from 8 to as high as 56 lakhs. A majority of students get placed on campus, although there has been a recession for 2 years now so the placements are a little on the low side. I plan to further continue my studies after getting my degree.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Being a government college, the fees here are on the low side. For a yearly fee of 2.5 lakhs, with an extra 30000 for mess, the student is provided with both tuition and a hostel. For students who come from more impoverished families, there are a number of scholarships and financial aid services being provided so that they may continue their services.

Campus Life :

Ours is about a century-old institute, and as such, there is a strong culture our cultural fest Srijan (conducted in February)is among the largest cultural fests that occur in the nation. The library is the second largest technical library in Asia, full of air-conditioned study rooms and reading areas. The classrooms are big, with a capacity to hold 130 students in each, and are provided with speakers and smart boards for ease of teaching. Sports and extracurricular activities are huge in our college. The majority of students are in at least 2 clubs, whether it is a technical, cultural or sports club.

The average package of our college is 17.2 LPA and 27.32 LPA for CSE. The highest package was 83LPA. I will try to get placed in one of the best companies coming into our college.

I chose computer science engineering because I always had an interest in it. The faculty-student ratio is quite good here. It is approximately 1:14. All the teachers here are PhD graduates and the teaching method is quite good too.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Electrical engineering being a circuital branch has a wide range of possibilities ahead. It can also be considered as evergreen branch whose demand is atleast not going to end soon. Faculty here are PhD professionals but some might not like the teaching methodologies as it is quite different from the regular schooling/coaching methodologies. Term exams are strictly followed and on basis of regular intervals to check learning process. It is pretty easy to pass the exams if someone only pays attention in class or refer to notes by professors.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The faculty are here so much more friendly. Some of them try to act like a professor but they are not. Some of the professors are very good and even they take the time to solve our doubts in their cabin. They support students in every aspect. They are good in every aspect. We have two teachers for physics and one for CSE.
