studied at Integrated Programme in Management, IIM Indore (2021)

Here are some drawbacks of the IIM Indore IPM program.

  • The duration of the course is five years. It is a long-term commitment. You can’t exit the program after three years. Choose this program, only if you want to do an MBA.
  • The course is expensive. IIM Indore IPM fees are around INR 4 lakhs.
  • If you want to specialize in a particular subject during your UG, then this is not the right course for you. The first three years of this course are general for every student.

The coursework of IPM is hectic. It won’t leave you with much free time to pursue any interest or hobby.

Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore (2016)

One of my cousins did his IPM at IIM Indore. According to his experience, IIM is really hectic and oftentimes tiring. Let me share some of the major drawbacks of joining IIM Indore for IPM.

Hectic schedule:

  • As compared to most colleges, IIMs schedule is very hectic.
  • If you want to pursue your hobbies or indulge in other skills, you might not get free time for that.

No single major

  • If you are interested in a single subject such as statistics or mathematics, you’ll not be able to pursue it in depth.
  • Although the quality of the core subjects in IPM is excellent, you also have to study less interesting subjects.

No chance for better platforms:

  • As it is a 5-year integrated course, you cannot grab better opportunities after completing your graduation.
  • You won’t be able to apply for CAT and pursue your post-graduation in management in other top IIMs.
  • So, if you are looking forward to pursuing MBA from top IIMs or abroad, you must drop this idea of pursuing IPM.

Not an undergraduate degree:

  • Since it’s an integrated program of 5 years, you won’t have an undergraduate degree.
  • You cannot leave the course in between, you have to dedicate 5 years to complete the degree.
  • However, in terms of applying for institutes, competitions, etc. will not be a problem.
  • My cousin applied for many national and international competitions.

High fee structure:

  • For most middle-class students in India, the initial investment for the institute can be very expensive.
  • It can go up to 25 Lakhs if you include all expenses.
  • However, you get good placement opportunities and better ROI.

Overall, if you can dedicate your 5 years and manage the hectic schedule, IPM at IIM Indore stands as a good option. However, if you want to go with a traditional mindset of having a separate undergraduate degree, this isn’t for you.
