How was Shikha Sharma as a student in IIM Ahmedabad?

SG
Sudipta Ghosh Posted On : March 30th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (2017)

Shikha Sharma was in the 1978-80 batch. Here are a few of the things that I heard about her from some of my friends at the institute.

  • She was an introvert by nature.
  • She later got married to her batchmate, Sanjay Sharma. It is said that they started dating during their early days of PGP1. Shikha used to teach Sanjay various subjects.
  • She was outstanding at Quants and by default scored too good in all finance subjects.
  • Despite being so good at her academics, she did not get placed on day zero. After getting rejected by a number of banks, she found herself placed in ICICI.

She recollects later in life that this was because of the fact that she could never oversell herself at that time.

How was it possible for ISB Hyderabad to be at par with IIM A in just 16 years?

RG
Rishi Gaurav Posted On : March 24th, 2021
Studied Electronics and Communication Engineering at CMR Institute of Technology, Bangalore (2018)

One of the most significant reasons why ISB is at par with IIM Ahmedabad is because of the fact that only these two MBA programs have successfully been figured in the top MBA programs of the world.

Getting a lot of participation and contributions from international faculty obviously helped a great deal. ISB has almost half the faculty as visiting faculty which is very advantageous in bringing in industry experience and letting the students learn first-hand.

Almost all the other top business schools in India were quite rigid when it came to their curriculum and study pattern. The other B schools are very less adaptable to the ever changing industry standards and hence there was a special need to address this gap. That’s where ISB Hyderabad came in the picture and posed as a strong alternative for IIM Ahmedabad.

The fact that ISB has kept its curriculum open to changes in the industry regularly, it has ensured that it stays a notch ahead of the other B schools. The international faculty here is also good.

Not to mention their alumni who are amazing leaders, managers and operational heads at several leading firms across the globe.

ISB Hyderabad has ensured that all its students have the capabilities to do wonders.

What is the procedure to defer admission to IIM Ahmedabad?

SB
Shrey Banka Posted On : November 22nd, 2022
MBA in Management, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (Graduated 2017)

Every student that gets selected to IIM Ahmedabad gets an option to defer their admission provided that the person must have full time work experience of less than 2 years.

This corporate experience gives a better understanding of the PGP program.

Some important points related to deferring admission are:

  1. Defer can be for a maximum of 2 years and a minimum of 1 year

  2. 1 year deferment is not allowed for freshers. They need to defer for at least 2 years and gain experience.

  3. A separate form needs to be filled for applying for deferment.

  4. Fees include Security Deposit + deferment fee = 2 lacs. If you don’t join after the end of the deferment period, this amount will be forfeited.

  5. Your progress will be monitored throughout.

To get your admission deferred, all you need to do is apply and send the form to IIM Ahmedabad. Such requests rarely go unaccepted.

My sister's friend reached out to the Guild Team for an internship in her 5th semester at IIM Ahmedabad. She wanted some experience in the field of venture capital. Luckily she got selected. Her boss suggested she get some experience in the consulting sector. She was in a dilemma when she received Guild's offer to join.

With no experience, she would be making a risky decision of opting out of the placement process. But she finally took the step and accepted Guild's offer. Today she has no regrets for the same and is well settled.

VA
Vijendra Asopa Posted On : November 21st, 2022
Post Graduate Program, PGP from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (Graduated 2020)

The campus of IIM Ahmedabad offers stalls from banks that are ready to help you in the entire loan process.

Start your loan application process early. As soon as you get selected your college will get you in touch with the bank officials. Every bank has different interest rates. Choose according to your budget. You just need to fill and submit the documents online and wait.

The banks will cater to all your expenses like fees and reimbursements. All you need to do is drop your mail to the bank's mail ID. You will get instant credit in your account.

When you finally get a job after graduation you have to repay the loan within 6 months or a year.

How difficult is it to get into IIM Ahmedabad? I'm a fresher at VIT Vellore.

IC
Ishita Chakraborty Posted On : July 29th, 2021
B.Tech ECE from Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore

It’s good that you are starting your MBA preparation from your first year. This will definitely give you a head start. IIM Ahmedabad is a great place to study but it needs a lot of effort. To clear the CAT entrance examination, you have to do exceptionally well in aptitude. CAT is one of the toughest examinations in India. This is so tough that even the students who perform great in their academics end up scoring 55-65% in the CAT examination.

At this stage, you should mainly focus on your graduation degree and prepare from the aptitude in parallel with the degree for the CAT exam. Always keep a track of the latest syllabus as there is a change in pattern. To get admission to IIM Ahmedabad, you need to attain more than 99.9 percentile in the entrance exam, and along with that, you will need a strong academic background, i.e. good marks in 10th, 12th, and in graduation also.

Some important tips that you can follow are, as here.

  • Complete your graduation degree with more than 9 CGPA as CGPA plays a very important role in both getting admission in IIM Ahmedabad and a hostel room in the VIT campus.
  • Get well-versed in English and practice the reading and verbal comprehension questions because, after logical reasoning, English is the most challenging section in the exam.
  • Go for the campus placement first. Have a job and attain a work experience of at least 6 months so that you can get an idea and also it will be an advantage in the interviews in IIM.
  • Attempt for the entrance exam in the final year and if you attain good marks sit for the interview and pursue MBA or else go for the campus placement and attempt for CAT after some work experience of around 6-12 months. This way you can have the backup plan ready.

Hope this helps.

IIM Ahmedabad charges high fees to maintain its cutting-edge facilities, top-notch infrastructure, high-end research facilities, it offers. They need to charge high to meet these costs. Also, IIMs are autonomous and they don’t receive much funding from the government. The majority of their funding comes from the program fees.

JT
Jayant Thakur Posted On : February 28th, 2023

It can be affirmatively stated that JBIMS is considered one of the best business schools in India. The trio of IIM A/B/C holds a distinct brand value compared to other top colleges in the country and globally. The brand recognition and respect of the IIM institutes have increased due to its status as an "Institutes of National Importance" and the widespread accomplished alumni base both in and outside of India.

JBIMS boasts an impressive list of notable alumni, including Vinita Bali, the Managing Director of Britannia, Lalita D. Should one specialize in HR from IIM Ahmedabad?

AS
Aishwarya Sinha Posted On : November 15th, 2022
PwC India | RBS | SAC - XLRI | ABG Scholar Nominee

Although IIM Ahmedabad is not the best HR campus, it is the best in its class. Furthermore, it is believed that the 'Specialization' thing should not be dependent on the institute, but rather on what a person sees their career as being in. Choose wisely, regardless of the institute, because you will have to live with it for many years.

IIM Ahmedabad does not offer an HR specialization. However, you can always add more HR electives to your PGP program in the second year to help your cause. If you are certain that you want to work in human resources, apply to XLRI or TISS. They offer the best HRM education in India.
