If you have to join one: NMIMS MUMBAI or IIM ROHTAK, which one would you join and why?

PO
Pancham Oza Posted On : January 10th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (Graduated 2022)

Given the two chances, I will definitely join IIM Rohtak over NMIMS anytime. The reasons for my choice are

Campus: The newly made campus of IIM Rohtak stretches over 150 acres and is loaded with top-notch facilities. Although some might consider its location at a disadvantage to NMIMS, in reality, it is just an hour's drive away from Delhi.

Placements: IIM Rohtak has an upper hand in placement opportunities as well.

Pedagogy: You can never compare the pedagogy of an IIM with any other B School. It’s very rigorous and the curriculum does not focus on academics, but also on exposure. This exposure is brought by events like TEDx and Marathon where students learn how to manage. Guest faculties from other IIMs, institutes like MDI, and senior management from top firms visit the campus for industry exposure.

Fees: IIM Rohtak- ?9.9 Lakhs (1st Year Fees)NMIMS- ?11.95 Lakhs (1st Year Fees). Despite being an IIM, Rohtaks fees are lesser than NMIMS.

Peer Learning: The peers are some of the most talented people you will ever come across. They have gotten into IIM with a percentile of more than 99.5. Moreover, there is a healthy blend of freshers and experienced students to promote effective peer learning. Most activities are conducted group-wise and each group comprises students from different backgrounds.

I hope these reasons might have cleared all the remaining doubts you had.

Which one is best: the RMK engineering college or the Sri venkateshwara engineering college around Chennai?

AM
Arjita Majumdar Posted On : June 1st, 2021
Sri Venkateswara Engineering college (SVEC) 2019

Sri Venkateswara Engineering College (SVEC) is better than RMK engineering college around Chennai. One of my cousins being part of the institute has her own opinions regarding the same, let me share some of them which will give you a clear idea.

  1. You will have a good standard of peers that will improve your exposure. It will help in developing quite a number of contacts.
  2. If you are planning to pursue your post-graduation, then enroll in SVEC. More than 30% of the students plan it (Post Graduation) early in their career.
  3. In terms of placements, you should possibly have no second thoughts, because SVEC is the best, only after SSN.
  4. Besides, SVEC also comes with a brand value that can add up to your exposure.

What is better: EEE at BITS Hyderabad or CS at VIT Vellore?

Sapna Malik updated Posted On : December 22nd, 2023

As a former EEE student at BITS Goa, I would not recommend taking up EEE at BITS Hyderabad if you want a career in the field of software engineering.

Here are the reasons why-

  1. The coding involved in EEE is not enough. You’ll code in MATLAB, which is rarely used in the IT sector. You’ll have to devote extra time to learning Python, Java, and other languages.
  2. CS involves much more than coding, all of which you’ll miss out on.
  3. Elective courses like OS, DSA, Comp Arch have very limited seats, and not everyone gets to pick them. Also, you’ll get these courses by your third or fourth year. By then you’ll either be under too much pressure to complete your main syllabus or it’ll be too late because the placement season will have begun.
  4. Top IT companies don’t open for non CS candidates, and even for the companies that do, you’ll have to compete with CS students.
  5. BITS will give you all the necessary exposure, quality education and opportunities. However, as a non IT student you’ll still find difficulty in getting an IT job via campus placements.

Based on all these points, I would recommend choosing CSE at VIT for better job prospects in the IT sector.

Which one is better: IIFT Delhi, JBIMS or SP Jain (Marketing) if I was looking for good placements and brand and I have converted all three?

SA
Shaunak Acharya Posted On : February 20th, 2023
MBA from Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi

To choose a college that is perfect for you, one needs to ponder various questions repeatedly. These questions will help you get a clear idea about what you want from MBA and which college will help you achieve that.

  • Which area do you want to specialize in?
  • Are you included towards functional level clarity (Operations, Finance, Marketing, Tech) or granular level clarity (FMCG marketing/Digital e-commerce marketing/Sales or Product Management/Project Management or General Management)

If the answer to it is yes, then analyze the reports of these institutes to find where each one of them stands. Looking at average CTC is not the right way and is in fact misleading.

Other things you should consider before choosing a B School are

  • The admission procedure and the level of difficulty of entrance exams if these colleges
  • The practicality and relevance of the curriculum as per the recent industrial trends
  • The profiles of your batchmates and their diversity The size and brand of the alumni base and the opportunities you will be availing through them
  • The importance of overall personality grooming

One thing you should keep in mind is that brands are just a stepping stone in your career journey and not the main factor. These institutes have been able to establish the brand name mainly because of where their alumni have reached now. So brands are helpful in the short run only.

Are least ranked NITs like Agartala, Srinagar, etc. good? Or should one prefer colleges like VIT/SRM/Manipal?

A
Admin Posted On : May 15th, 2024

I graduated from VIT Vellore in 2023, with a B.Tech degree in ECE branch.

You’ll probably come across people who’ll tell you that low ranking NITs like NIT Agartala, Srinagar, etc. still carry the ‘NIT’ tag, and thus, they have a higher brand value compared to VIT Vellore. However, that is not the case.

My sister is currently studying at NIT Agartala, and according to her, VIT Vellore has a much higher industry reputation and a bigger brand name in comparison to lower ranking NITs.

I have personally come across NITians who were unplaced after graduation. But as far as VIT Vellore is concerned, it delivers a high placement record each year. Many of the NITs suffer from poor infrastructure and shortage of facilities because of lack of funding and bad administration. As a private institution, VIT Vellore does not suffer in these areas.

These are some reasons why I chose VIT Vellore for my B.Tech despite getting lower ranking NITs after 12th. If you are happy with the location, and you get your desired branch at VIT Vellore, I would recommend you to join this institution.

Which should I choose, IISC (ME in signal processing), IITB SysCon or NITIE PGDIE?

AA
Ajita Anand Posted On : August 13th, 2021
PGDPM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

It is best to either secure a job either at a government-run organization, PSU, or go for NITIE. You can opt for either option.

You need to obtain the best offer at the end of the day, and securing a position in the job sector might be a good decision. Apart from that, if you do not share a valuable amount of interest in the PSU, then joining NITIE Mumbai might be the best option for you.

You will get the chance to witness several big firms visiting the campus, alongside the addition of value to your profile and simultaneous growth. In terms of the technical courses, you should definitely research more about them, as per your requirements.

Why do rankers prefer AIIMS Bhopal over AIIMS Jodhpur?

Muskan Shafi Posted On : April 1st, 2024

During NEET UG Counselling, a lot of candidates prefer AIIMS Bhopal over AIIMS Jodhpur for MBBS if not able to get a seat at AIIMS Delhi. Both AIIMS Jodhpur and AIIMS Bhopal are equally good colleges and amongst the top-ranked ones in the country.

One major reason why students opt for AIIMS Bhopal over AIIMS Jodhpur is due to the location of AIIMS Bhopal and its larger connectivity than AIIMS Jodhpur. AIIMS Bhopal is located in Central India and the state it is located in, i.e. Madhya Pradesh. The hostels at AIIMS Bhopal are as good as AIIMS Jodhpur, however, has much more freedom. The city of Bhopal also gives one more reason for students to join AIIMS Bhopal.

AIIMS Jodhpur is a bit far from the main city and the connectivity also is not as good as AIIMS Bhopal. There is also less freedom for students as the campus and the hostel wardens are extremely strict as well.

Thus, the location and connectivity of AIIMS Bhopal is one big reason why rankers prefer AIIMS Bhopal over AIIMS Jodhpur.

Which college is better, LHMC or RML?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : October 4th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

I don’t know much about RML/ABVIMS, but I can highlight a few points about LHMC-

  • Clinical Exposure- RML offers more clinical exposure for medicine and surgery. This is why half of LHMC postings are conducted at RML. However, LHMC is one of the best in India for Gynae and Paeds. Moreover, LHMC has opened a new academic block, a new OPD block, and new super specialty blocks in recent years. This will increase clinical exposure at LHMC.
  • Infrastructure and location- LHMC campus is small yet beautiful. It is located in CP, and well connected to the rest of Delhi NCR via metro.
  • DU quota- As an LHMC student, you’ll get a DU quota for PG studies in MAMC, LHMC, and UCMS. IPU has a huge number of PG seats, but the competition is quite high.

Both RML and LHMC are top medical colleges in Delhi. As a student of LHMC, I can assure you that our college provides ample growth opportunities.

Which is a better choice at NIT Silchar, Mechanical or CSE?

LC
Lipika Chakraborty Posted On : August 25th, 2023
B.tech from National Institute of Technology Silchar (2020)

Most students, freshly out of school, try to choose an Engineering branch for themselves. You might be someone who has a deep passion for either Mechanical or CSE. In that case, I would advise you to follow your heart.

But if you think not opting for CSE is a bad decision, just ask yourself why you would consider CSE. Is it because you did some coding in your school days and wish to enter into that field, or simply because CSE is popular. Don’t be in the illusion of liking a branch just because everyone is recommending it. Also, don’t go for any branch solely because it has better placements than the other. As long as you enjoy a particular field, you will get good offers.

NIT Silchar

Mechanical is a good branch at NIT Silchar. Moreover, as research has become increasingly interdisciplinary in nature, various departments collaborate with one another these days. Even Mechanical has a good involvement of CSE- Robotics, CFD, etc. all involve high level coding and the knowledge of Data Structures. Because today most campuses witness IT placements more than core profiles, I would highly recommend you consult the alumni of Mechanical to figure out what placements are like in ground reality.

These are the 2022 placement stats for both the branches at NIT Silchar-

Also, NIT Silchar offers a branch change after the 2nd semester. This is based on your performance in the first two semesters. In case you feel dissatisfied with your choice, you can opt for branch change as well.

For your first year (whichever branch you choose) maintain good grades, talk to your seniors and explore your stream.

Which is better SVNIT OR VIT?

YG
Yogita Goswami Posted On : May 27th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering at SVNIT

Both SVNIT and VIT are very good engineering colleges and both of them have their own advantages.

  • If you want a college with less strict rules, a more chill environment, fewer college fees, and an NIT tag, then you should choose SVNIT.
  • If you are planning to go abroad for higher studies or a job, then you should choose VIT as you will get a lot of opportunities there. But there is a lot of competition and the college rules are very strict too.
  • The campus of VIT is very beautiful and all the modern facilities are available there and you will find students here from all over the country.
  • The hostels at VIT are also clean and well-maintained. There are both North Indian and South Indian food available separately at the hostel mess.

The placements of VIT are very good as it is a very popular college and all the top companies visit the campus for placements. You can easily secure a job if you possess the right skills and you prepare yourself well for the interview and be confident enough.

Here is a brief overview of the recent placement highlight at these institutes.

VIT

Average CTC

Highest CTC
