What are the pros and cons of MNIT Jaipur?

SG
Souvick Gupta Posted On : October 9th, 2023
MNIT Jaipur

One of my close friends was a student at MNIT Jaipur and told me about the reality of the institute that is not known to many. The worst part, he claimed, was the poorly structured curriculum of the first year that hardly had any CS subjects. He was taught Engineering Design, Mechanical Fundamentals, Electrical Fundamentals, Electronics communications, and Chemistry but had no relation whatsoever with the field he was interested in.

It was only after the 6th semester that CS subjects like JAVA, Web Development, App Development, and Machine Learning were introduced. Again, the focus is only on theoretical knowledge, and no practical skills are imparted to the students.

I feel the college should make some amendments to improve the academics like students should be given more freedom to choose subjects and the compulsory attendance rule should be removed

Overall, I feel MNIT Jaipur is not the right place if you are genuinely passionate about coding. Go for this college only if your focus is to get placed.

How many marks do we need to get a distinction in JNTUH?

SD
Sai Kumar Dhillon Posted On : August 3rd, 2023
Studied at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (2016)

As per the new  R-09 and R-13 regulations, JNTUH students won't be getting a distinction for each and every subject. Once their 4th-year 2nd Semester results are out,  a Consolidated Marks Memo(CMM) will be issued to them. This CMM includes all their semesters' subjects and respective marks. This Memo will also include the marks of the 2 excluded subjects, the marks of which will not be included in the final result.

In JNTUH, calculating your grade is quite easy. Grades are calculated on the basis of the percentage calculated on the score that you have secured in all the semesters combined to the total mark of 5250. Students are graded as follows

  • Those who have secured a 69.5% and above get “First Class with Distinction”.
  • Those who have secured between 59.5% and 69.5% get “First Class”.

This process continues further for subsequent percentages.

However, the procedure might be different if you are following the R-16 regulations. Under the new grading system, you can check your Subject Performance Standards like Outstanding, Excellent, etc. You can also see this SGPA which stands for Sessional/Semester Grade Point Average which can be converted in percentage format. Additionally, there will be a CGPA which is calculated as such

CGPA=(SGPA1+SGPA2+.....+of all semester)/(SCP1+SCP2+.....+of all semesters)

Here, SCP stands for Sessional/Semester Credit Points set to all subjects. Overall, students getting 6.95 and above in their CGPA/OGPA, will be given distinction along with First Class, O, A+, A, any other grade, etc.

What is the process to obtain a migration certificate from BPUT? Can I get it on the same day if it's urgent?

RS

M.Tech Power Electronics and Drives, Biju Patnaik University of Technology (2019)

Here is the step-by-step process to obtain a migration certificate from BPUT

  • Step 1: Get an application form to apply for a migration certificate along with the college registration ID.
  • Step 2: Fill in this application form and get it signed by your college principal.
  • Step 3: Attach the Migration certificate fees of Rs 100/- in the form of a demand draft in favor of BPUT payable at Rourkela with the application form and then send it to BPUT, Rourkela.

You are likely to receive the migration certificate within a few days. I think it’s difficult to get the certificate immediately but you can try coming to BPUT Rourkela once your application form has been signed by your college authority. Meet the concerned officer here and ask if they can get your work done right away. If you are lucky, you might as well get the certificate on the spot.

Is BITS Pilani better than IIT Kharagpur?

A
Admin Posted On : June 18th, 2024

No, BITS Pilani is not better than IIT kharagpur. IIT Kharagpur is a government institute established in 1951. It is older as compared to BITS Pilani.

No doubt BITS Pilani is also a good college, but IIT KGP clearly has an edge over it. Both of these institutes can be compared on few parameters as discussed below-

  • Overall Ranking: The NIRF ranking of IIT Kharagpur is better than BITS Pilani. Many National and International ranking provider platforms choose IIT Kharagpur over BITS Pilani because of its long standing reputation and huge research output. As per the latest NIRF Engineering Ranking 2023, IIT Kharagpur is at rank 6, whereas BITS Pilani is at rank 25.
  •  Research Opportunities: IIT Kharagpur provides more extensive research opportunities as compared to BITS Pilani. As per the NIRF Ranking 2023 for Research, IIT Kharagpur is at 5th position, and BITS Pilani is at 26th.
  • Faculty: Both of these institutes have highly qualified faculty members. But IIT Kharagpur has a larger faculty.
  • Campus Life: The campus area of IIT Kharagpur is much bigger as compared to BITS Pilani. The total area of IIT Kharagpur is 2100 acres, whereas, BITS Pilani has an area of 328 acres in total. BITS Pilani offers a more vibrant campus life in the form of various clubs and societies. On the other hand, IIT KGP focuses mainly on academics.
  • Placements: Both of these institutes have good placement records. Almost all the top companies visit their campuses for recruitment including EXL, Google, Microsoft, Airbus, Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Steel etc. The highest and median package for IIT Kharagpur in the year 2023 were INR 2.68 CPA and INR 24 LPA respectively. Whereas the highest, median and average package for BITS Pilani in the year 2023 were INR 60.75 LPA, INR 30 LPA and INR 30.37 LPA respectively.

Based on these factors, I would recommend you choose IIT KGP. But even BITS Pilani is an excellent institution.

I'm 19 and doing my undergraduate studies in IIT Kharagpur. I am clueless as to where my life is heading. What are the various things I should learn during my 4 year stay here?

NG
Nikhil Goal Posted On : March 22nd, 2023
Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT KGP)

Honestly being in the first year at IIT is too early to be clueless. In the future, you will face hundreds of circumstances where you will feel clueless so don’t ruin your college life feeling clueless when you have so much to do.

  • Don’t let your CGPA fall below 8 during the first year at IIT Kharagpur.
  • Master programming languages such as Java, C, HTML, C++, Python, Ruby, or .net,
  • Develop a startup mindset and start working on one early. By the end of 2nd year have your startup idea ready with a website.
  • Master MATLAB/MATHEMATICA/COMSOL software. You need them for academics.
  • If you are good at dramatics you can start your YouTube channel and start earning.
  • Rather than depending on on-campus placements, get a PPO from the company you interned with.
  • Maintain healthy bonds with your project professor.

I will suggest you not waste time looking for clues but rather make the most of your precious time at IIT. Explore your abilities and look for your passions and keep learning new things.

Is IIT bombay aerospace worth it?

HP
Hrushikesh Potdar Posted On : March 18th, 2023
MTech from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) (Graduated 2020)

Honestly speaking, if you are passionate about Aerospace, I suggest you opt for IIT Kanpur rather than IIT Bombay. The following points support my inclination toward IIT Kanpur for Aerospace.

  • IIT Kanpur has its own Airstrip and private planes.
  • Students perform experiments while flying over the campus.
  • IIT Kanpur offers a real-time experience that won’t be possible at IIT Bombay.
  • IIT Kanpur has MOUs related to VTOL, EVTOL Unmanned aerial vehicles, etc.
  • The size of the IIT Kanpur campus is almost double that of IIT Bombay.

However, if you are not into Aerospace and are just interested in placements, you should put extra effort into coding, Data Structures or ML, and Python and can consider IIT Bombay as a good choice.

Can I get an NIT seat with a 15000 obc rank in JEE Mains?

MS
Monika Sinha Posted On : August 13th, 2022
B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur

It will be difficult to get an NIT Seat with a 15000 OBC rank in JEE Main. You may get NITs like Agartala or Silchar, during the last rounds of counseling. Whether you will get a seat or not will depend on the competition of that year and the cutoff trends. You may apply for the counseling and wait till the spot round admission.

Why does RGPV take so long to deliver degrees?

VB
Vishal Babu Posted On : October 21st, 2022
BA in English Literature and Psychology (IGNOU) (Graduated 2019)

One of my friends has graduated from RGPV main campus. He told me how irresponsible the staff is. He had to stay in the college for more than 2 years although the duration of his course was 2 years. This happened because of the college's inability to complete the course on time.

This delay is the fault of the administration, staff and faculty as a whole. Many students suffer because of their inefficiency and slow tactics. The highest and oldest officials of the college have strong political relations because of which the danger to their job is minimal.

The college is slow when it comes to taking action to any kind of request. Getting a degree is a mighty task here. If you still haven’t got it, contact the administrative department frequently.
