Both IIT Patna and IIT Bombay are well-reputed institutes in India. The CSE department is renowned for its experienced faculty, rich alumni network, best placement support, and effective classes. The courses in the Computer Science and Electronics department include compilers, machine learning, computer learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and so on. Students are given both theoretical and practical knowledge. IIT Patna also has club support from the CSE field, namely NJ GATH, and Robotics. The students can effectively explore their ideas in this respective field in an innovative way. The alumni network of the CSE department is fabulous, as they give much support to the students in their studies. The opportunities are far better in the CS field than in civil engineering. So you can opt for IIT Patna.

I would never recommend you to go for any core branch at new IITs. With the new IIT tag, ISM Dhanbad is a far better option as it was established in 1926 and enjoys global recognition in contrast to IIT Hyderabad, which is still under development. Both the colleges are poles apart in terms of infrastructure, facilities, etc.

The table below shows a head-on comparison of the placement scenario at both the institutes:

Which branch should I choose, NIT Jamshedpur metallurgy, production, or civil?

GG
Gargi Gupta Posted On : September 1st, 2023
Studied at NIT Jamshedpur

There are several things you should consider while comparing these branches.

During 2023 placements, 97.29% of students were placed in the Civil branch. Metallurgy students received 100% placements while production students received 97.61% placements.

The salary package stats for these branches are as described below-

NIT Jamshedpur

Out of the three, Metallurgy has the highest placement percentage.

TATA Steel offers good placements to Metallurgy students of NIT Jamshedpur. Other than them, Vedanta, Jindal Steel, Hindalco, and Tata Metaliks are some other companies that offer placements to Metallurgy students of NIT Jamshedpur.

Metallurgy is a good choice for higher studies. Many students from this branch perform really well in GATE exams.

I recommend you consider joining Metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur because it offers good future prospects. However, also talk to some seniors from the other branches before making a final decision.

Which is better for civil, PDPU or Nirma?

AV
Avni Vyas Posted On : March 29th, 2023
B.Tech Electrical Engineering, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar (2018)

If you are considering private colleges in Gujarat, Nirma, and PDPU are two of the most reputed institutions. Here's what you need to know about these colleges to help you make an informed decision:

  • Nirma: Nirma University is known for its engineering programs and has a bit of a school-like culture, which may or may not suit your preferences. Here are some essential points to note about Nirma:
  • The college has a compulsory attendance policy, with students needing to maintain attendance above 85%.
  • The college has a good reputation for academic rigor and quality faculty.
  • The campus has good infrastructure and facilities, including well-equipped labs and libraries.
  • Nirma has a decent placement record, with students getting placed in reputed companies in India and abroad.
  • PDPU: PDPU is known for its focus on interdisciplinary education and provides ample opportunities for students to develop their skills and interests outside of academics. Here are some essential points to note about PDPU:
  • The college offers a wide range of programs, including engineering, management, law, and humanities, among others.
  • The college has a vibrant campus life with a variety of clubs, societies, and events that offer ample opportunities to develop your skills and interests.
  • The college has a good reputation for quality education, with experienced faculty members who are experts in their respective fields.
  • The fees of PDPU are on the higher side, but the facilities and opportunities provided by the college more than compensate for the cost.

Both Nirma and PDPU are reputed colleges in Gujarat with unique strengths. Your decision should be based on your personal preferences and career goals. If you value academic rigor and a structured approach to learning, Nirma could be a good fit for you. If you are looking for opportunities to develop your skills and interests outside of academics and don't mind paying a higher fee, PDPU could be a good choice for you.

Should I pursue civil engineering at IIT Indore or electrical engineering at IIT Patna?

Namrata Das Posted On : June 17th, 2023

Last year, my friend was in a similar dilemma and decided to seek help directly from a PhD student at IIT Indore. Surprisingly enough, the fellow's first question was if I had other options.

He explained that the CE branch here is new and lacks credibility yet. The labs aren’t well established and the seniors are equally clueless about the future. This helped my friend a lot as he then switched to IIT Patna EE and to date, he hasn’t regretted his decision even once as it is one of the best UG branches of IIT Patna.

  • Choosing IIT Patna will give you a variety of options to opt for after 4 years in various fields like Core Electrical, Electronics, Coding, Open Source Development, Further Studies, and even Research.
  • Being one of the oldest branches, it has a broad alumni pool that is making big contributions to society.
  • The branch has the best labs such as the Advanced Electrical Lab, the Basic/Analog/Digital Lab, the Communication Lab, the Digital Signal Processing Lab, and so on.
  • The branch has an actively operating Club called Sparkonics
  • Like any other IIT, the professors are highly qualified and you cannot doubt their parity.

Lastly, don’t give up on IIT Indore just because it is in Patna. Irrespective of whichever city it belongs to an IIT will serve you the best!

Which would be better, Civil MNNIT Allahabad or Civil NIT Surathkal? I am a North Indian.

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : March 24th, 2023

If you are looking for a private job, then you should consider Civil Engineering at NIT Surathkal. Here are some reasons why:

  • NIT Surathkal has a great reputation for producing graduates who get placed in top software multinationals or investment banks at lucrative packages.
  • The insider knowledge of the college along with the feedback from many students at NIT Surathkal, assures that the college has a lot to offer in terms of quality education and training.

However, if you want to go for a government job, then you should go with Civil Engineering at MNNIT Allahabad. Here are some reasons why:

  • MNNIT Allahabad has exceptional faculties and offers a competitive environment that is unmatched by any other college.
  • Civil Engineering from MNNIT Allahabad has a great track record of producing GATE toppers, with students securing ranks 1, 2, 4, 6, and 9 when I entered the college.
  • With the devotion and resources MNNIT has to offer, most Mechanical and Civil aspirants here can crack GATE or ESE with ease.

Which would be better, “Civil MNNIT Allahabad or Civil NIT Surathkal?” I am a North Indian.

Namrata Das Posted On : September 16th, 2023

It is difficult to shift to a location that is far away from home. As a North Indian who was faced with a similar situation, I can completely understand your hesitation in choosing NITK.

Talking about this branch, the placements of Civil are comparatively low, irrespective of your college. Even in the IITs, a number of Civil students remain unplaced. But overall, the placements for Civil are slightly better at NIT Surathkal. NITK also has better infrastructure and a private beach.

But if you plan to prepare for UPSC or GATE, like most Civil students, MNNIT is an ideal choice. MNNIT students secure top ranks in these exams. The environment of MNNIT is ideal for the preparation of competitive exams. I am not aware of the environment provided at NITK for competitive exam preparation.

Both MNNIT and NIT Surathkal are renowned colleges. Both are good choices. You should choose between them based on personal preference. I would also recommend you approach some seniors from NITK to learn about the lifestyle and eating habits over there. Try to find out if the place will suit you or not.

Is IIT BHU better than IIT Hyderabad in civil?

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : May 16th, 2023
lives in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India

My knowledge is limited to IIT Hyderabad Civil Engineering as my brother hails from the same

  • IIT Hyderabad Civil Engineering started in 2012, and only a few batches have passed out yet.
  • The branch usually records 100% placements
  • Majority of the branch is recruited by core companies like L&T, STRATA, TATA Steel, etc.
  • Students were provided internship offers from top institutes and companies like NCAOR (Antartica), TATA Steel, Univ. of Tokyo, Coal India, Purdue Univ, L&T, Keller, Shapoorji Pallonji, etc.
  • IIT Hyderabad has longstanding ties with international universities like Purdue University, Tokyo University, Ritsumeikan University, State University of New York, etc.
  • The faculty of this department is young and dynamic such that you can approach them easily in case of any issues.
  • You get tremendous practical exposure which won't be possible in the case of IIT BHU.

Considering the fast-paced growth of IIT Hyderabad Civil in the initial stages itself, I will recommend you join it over IIT BHU.
