For Civil Engineering, IIT Roorkee is a much better option than other IITs. Before I tell you why, here is a bit about IIT Roorkee’s history. Established in 1847, IIT Roorkee was the first Asian Engineering initially known as College Thomason College of Civil Engineering. Here are a few points pertaining to its civil Engineering program

  • Civil Engineering is one of the best core departments of IIT Roorkee.
  • The placements are decent with a plethora of job opportunities
  • IIT Roorkee has state-of-the-art labs that are massive and equipped with the latest facilities.
  • The Civil Engineering Department is the parent to many subdomains like Earthquake Engineering Department in India.
  • IIT Roorkee has numerous Foreign and International Collaborations with many eminent personalities visiting the campus frequently.
  • Several Student Exchange Programs from foreign universities are offered to facilitate international exposure
  • CSIR-CBRI is present inside the campus to coordinate with the Civil department to provide an excellent research environment.
  • The civil engineering branch has an extensive alumni pool comprising many flag bearers of the institute like Sir James Thomason( constructor of Ganga Canal ), Sir Ganga Ram, Lawrence William Durell (constructor of Darjeeling Mountain railway), Ajudhia Nath Khosla ( builder of Bhakra-Nangal Dam and Hirakud Dam), Jai Krishna( eminent Earthquake Engineer), to the present Prashant Rao and Mangu Singh ( Director & MD of Delhi Metro Railway Corporation ), etc

These points prove rightly that the Civil Engineering department of IIT Roorkee is the best you can find in the whole of Asia.
