DG
Devdutt Guha Posted On : November 9th, 2021
M.Tech Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Jadavpur University (2019)

I have a few friends from the Chemical Engineering department at Jadavpur University. According to them, the placement record from the branch has been good in recent years.

Some of the reputed companies that visit the campus for Chemical Engineering students are Cairn India, ITC, Axens, BPCL, etc. The packages offered for Chemical Engineering students range from 5-17 LPA. In the 2021 placement drive, the average CTC offered at the institute was 19 LPA.

  • Chemical Equilibrium
  • Chemical Kinetics
  • Solution
  • Calculus
  • Matrices and Determinants
  • Probability
  • Organic Chemistry and Inorganic chemistry basics so that you can understand physical properties.

Which one should I choose, NIT Jalandhar for chemical or NIT Silchar in CS?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : August 31st, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

Both NIT Jalandhar and NIT Silchar are reputable institutes for their respective fields, Chemical engineering and Computer Science. However, the decision ultimately depends on your interests and career goals.

  • If you are interested in studying Chemical engineering, NIT Jalandhar would be a great choice as it has a strong program in this field. It is known to have a well-equipped laboratory, experienced faculty, and a good placement scenario.
  • If you are interested in Computer Science, NIT Silchar offers a good program in this field and has a good reputation. NIT Silchar has a strong faculty and good placement records.

In my opinion, it's better to choose NIT Silchar CSE because it's very challenging to upgrade your branch from Chemical to CS later. So unless you are confident of being able to change your branch, choose NIT Silchar without any hesitation. Ultimately, the decision should be based on your interests and career goals.

Should I go for IIT Hyderabad chemical engineering or RGIPT petroleum in terms of placements?

SP
Sushil Panda Posted On : May 16th, 2023

I find it very illogical when people try to compare and evaluate an institute's worth solely on the basis of placements. There are many other crucial factors that affect your career prospects some of which have been discussed below

  • Infrastructure: The campus and infrastructure of IIT Hyderabad are much better than RGIPT, except that RGIPT has better accommodation facilities than IIT Hyderabad.
  • Faculty: Both colleges have equally qualified and experienced faculty pools
  • Alumni network: Undoubtedly, IIT Hyderabad fares better in this aspect than RGIPT
  • Extracurricular activities: IIT Hyderabad again is a winner here
  • Peer group: IIT Hyderabad has better and bigger peer groups. RGIPT has smaller peer groups and thus faces a slight disadvantage in this aspect.
  • Fees structure: RGIPT does not have a fee waiver policy for General and OBC candidates while in IIT you can be eligible for a fee waiver.
  • Placement: Placements-wise, RGIPT Petroleum gives an edge to IIT Hyderabad. This is because Petroleum engineers are highly paid globally. The majority of the placements are in core sector jobs, and thus have better job opportunities than a chemical engineer. Chemical Engineers rarely get placed in core sectors and end up with non-core jobs. Basically, IIT Hyderabad has better noncore opportunities while RGIPT has better core job opportunities.

Overall, IIT Hyderabad is better than RGIPT in many other aspects and is preferable to RGIPT any day.

How is Chemical Engineering (Plastic & Polymer) at BIT Mesra? Should I join it aiming branch change after 1st year?

AB
Arun Biswas Posted On : September 5th, 2023
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra

It is better not to target a branch change because good branches are available only if you have an 8.5+ CGPA (which varies based on the vacancies).

When it comes to Chemical Engineering, this branch opens up a plethora of opportunities. But you need to work hard and score a decent CGPA. Many recruiters opt for students with a good CGPA and practical knowledge. Don’t get distracted from your studies since this institute also encourages students to take part in extra-curricular activities.

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : June 22nd, 2023

Without any hesitation go for IIT Patna CSE instead of IIT Guwahati Chemical Engineering. I have come to this conclusion only after comparing the placement scenario of the respective institutes. Look at the table below comparing the placement scenario of these branches

Particulars

IIT Guwahati Chemical

IIT Patna CSE

Number of students registered

73

74

Number of students placed

58

73

Placement percentage

79.45%

98.65%

You can clearly see that IIT Patna CSE has a better placement percentage. In fact, CSE from any mid-ranked NIT will be better than chemical engineering from top IITs.

BITS Goa is one of the most reputed technical institutes located in South Goa. The academic structure at the institute is directly governed by the parent institute BITS Pilani. Which is better: chemical engineering at LDCE or MSU Baroda?

NS
Neetu Singh Posted On : December 29th, 2022
Visiting Faculty at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (2016–present)

Let’s do a basic comparison between the two universities first.

Accreditation: MSU is an autonomous university whereas LDCE comes under ACPC

Infrastructure: MSU has an upper hand in this aspect as its infrastructure is way better than LDCE.

Marking pattern: MSU follows a very tough marking scheme and therefore makes it difficult for students to get good CGPAs.

Placements: The placements of both universities are equally good. I have tabulated the placement statistics below to draw a clearer comparison.

Particulars

MSU

LDCE

Number of Companies

30+

148

Number of Students placed

90

787

Highest CTC

INR 4 LPA

INR 10 LPA

Top Recruiters

Standard Radiators Pvt. Ltd., Caparo India Pvt. Ltd., Nayara Energy

Accenture, Cairn India, Vedanta Group, MG Motors, Adani Group, etc

At LDCE offers were made from industries like Oil, Gas, Power, Fertilizer, IT sector, Automobile, Chemical, Petrochemical, etc.

Personally, I feel overall MSU is a better option. It has some additional features that set it apart from LDCE. These include

  • Much better hostel facilities than LDCE
  • 3 major technological and social events are held every year that boost your extracurricular activities.
  • The faculty at MSU is top notch with great learned and experienced professors.

So Chemical Engineering at MSU Baroda is a better option.
