Is it safe to join a B.Stat at ISI Kolkata (I'm a non-Bengali student)?

NK
Natasha Kaur Posted On : September 22nd, 2021
Studied at Indian Statistical Institute (2019)

Kolkata is one of India's safest cities. This city attracts visitors from all over India and the world. That's why it's known as the "City of Joy." Bengalis are extremely friendly.

ISI Kolkata is known to have the most sought-after institute in Statistical expertise. It has one of the best faculty members in India. Out of which, 30 professors were published in Standford University.

Moreover, you have got a seat in B.Stat which is considered one of the toughest examinations for Mathematics in Asia. You should base your judgement on the basis of a stereotype as letting go of this opportunity will be a wrong decision.

Almost 50% of the batch consists of Non-Bengalis here at ISI Kolkata. There is no need to worry as the institute also has a rigid anti-ragging policy.

What should I choose, a dual degree MSc program in BITS Hyderabad or some branch in NIT Raipur, or CSE in NIT Puducherry?

SG
Sreelekha Ghosh, Posted On : October 25th, 2021
B.E Computer Science, BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus (2020)

Choose BITS Hyderabad over NIT Raipur or NIT Puducherry. Here are some of the reasons for choosing this institute:

  • They offer a beautiful campus with an enthusiastic student crowd.
  • BITS Hyderabad has updated modern machinery and lab facilities.
  • The placements definitely differ between the BITS and NITs.
  • NIT Raipur is very old-fashioned in its approach towards studying and learning.
  • Their faculties teaching method is old and prefers their students mugging up notes rather than learning and understanding something.
  • BITS, unlike NIT Raipur, their teaching method is industry-oriented.

You might think that going for a dual degree is better as IT companies only prefer CSE graduates. But nowadays this notion has changed as with big data and analytics creating a boom, more and more such companies visiting campuses and hiring people from all branches.

Therefore it is suggested that you go for BITS Hyderabad, where you will grow and learn in a much more competitive environment. Your vision will be broadened.

How is Vels University in Chennai for BSc information technology?

RC
Rishabh Chandani Posted On : September 14th, 2021
B.Com from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College,Delhi University

My cousin is from this institute, so I think I am eligible to answer your question.

It is a well-established institution with a well-qualified faculty and a placement track record ranging from 60% to 90%. According to the recent placement highlights the average CTC offered at the institute is 17 LPA.

The university has all modern conveniences, such as air-conditioned classrooms/laboratories, a fine canteen, and a pleasant environment.

However, you have to look out for expenses as if you know it is an expensive university with fewer than 210 days of classes every year. So if you can afford it, then you should definitely go for it.

How can I take a BSc in biology from IGNOU?

K
Kavya Posted On : October 28th, 2022
Studied at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)

You can apply for the Bachelor's Degree Programme (BDP) at IGNOU which includes the BSc programme. One such course is LSE or Life Science. You need to select elective courses in Life Science first.

  • IGNOU has a credit-based grading system. This requires you to complete 32 credits in a single academic year. This totals 96 credits in 3 years.

  • For the first year 16 credits will be from foundation courses. Other credits will be from your elective courses.

  • For a major degree you need to have 48 credits from the subject you wish to major in.

  • In the 3rd year it’s decided whether you have a BSc (zoo) or BSc (bot). This depends on the choice of your subjects.

  • BSc in Biology also required lab courses. These constitute about 25% of your marks and attendance is compulsory.

  • Take a second elective from the rest (maths, physics, chemistry) such that it carries at least 8 credits.

If you are still having difficulty understanding the credits visit the university’s official website.

Is the NMIMS Bsc Finance degree worth the money?

PN
Priyam Naskar Posted On : May 25th, 2021
B.Sc Finance at SVKM's NMIMS (2018)

One of my friends pursued his B.Sc in Finance from NMIMS. Based on his input, I might be able to help you with your question.

  • All the demands and requirements of any corporation are assimilated into the curriculum.
  • The syllabus includes major subjects like Business Analytics (SAS Software), Alternative Investment Markets, Operation Research, Debt Markets, Financial Reporting Standards, or even Corporate Finance.
  • Theseare exclusive to NMIMS B.Sc. It can not be seen or found in any other syllabus within India.
  • Mumbai being the financial capital of the country provides us with better industrial exposure.

If you have any misconception about having fun while you are here, drop it already. As at NMIMS you probably would not have time to do so. Just so you are fit for corporate culture, they train you in such a way that you don't face any problem in the future.

Since you have an inclination towards Finance, you would realize that everything you had endured was worth it in the end. And if the situation is the opposite, you'd be left far, far behind in the Finance race pulverizing yourself under constant pressure.

What is the integrated MSc in chemistry at IIT Kharagpur?

SG
Senjuti Gupta Posted On : March 23rd, 2023
studied at IIT Kgp

M.Sc Chemistry at IIT Kharagpur is a five-year integrated MSc course offered by the Department of chemistry.

In the first year, all the courses will be the same for all the departments. Out of these courses, only one is chemistry. Other courses are from other departments like Electrical, computer science, Mechanical, Physics, etc. Here, you are given a chance to explore at least one course from most of the departments. Based on your performance in first year (i.e CGPA) you can change your department (also called Depc). But for this, you need to get a CGPA of more than the cut-off CGPA of the department to which you want to change.

For instance suppose, Electrical Engineering department has a cut-off CGPA of 9.2 for DepC then you need to get a CGPA of more than 9.2 for DepC to Electrical.

From the second year most of the courses will be from your department. Though, there will be a few courses from other departments as well. So, yes you will be studying mostly Chemistry from the second year onward. you can look at the complete Curricula Subjects List here

Is Asutosh college good for statistics honours?

SG
Saunak Guha Posted On : October 19th, 2021
B. Sc. Economics, University of Calcutta (2019)

I have a few friends from the Statistics department. Based on the things I heard from them, I will say the department is quite great. Professors are well-qualified, strict and they never miss any scheduled class.

Attendance is taken seriously in the department. You won’t be able to slack off. You also have to study seriously for the tests. Because if you fail in sectionals, you won’t be able to sit for finals.

Why choose Calcutta University for a B-Sc. in physics?

SG
Saunak Gupta Posted On : December 10th, 2020
B.Sc (physics honours) from University of Calcutta (2017)

If one has the option to secure admission into Calcutta University for B.Sc in Physics they should immediately apply for it.

As compared to other universities that are based on research institutes and teaching is secondary to them, Calcutta university is different as they put emphasis on education and keep it a top priority.

It is one of the oldest universities and has matured with time. They have the best physics teachers and labs that are available in India. The course curriculum set by the college is tough and the marking pattern set by the faculty makes it difficult to score the marks making it stringent. But this is the best thing about the University as it prepares the student for further studies and makes them well aware of the competition.

More information about the college is given below in a tabular form to make things clearer and understandable as to why choose Calcutta University for B-Sc physics.

Particulars

Calcutta University

Accredited

NAAC ‘A++’

Fees

Which branch is better, IIT Kanpur statistics and data science (B.Sc) or IIT Dhanbad CSE?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : October 12th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Both the courses are good.

However, with the advancement of technologies like AI and ML, and one’s increasing dependency upon them, Data Science has become a field with immense potential.

Data Science has a lot of future scope, and its demand will only increase with time. This field requires a good understanding of Statistics, Mathematics, and Computer Science (Especially Python Language).

BSc. in Data Science is an even better option than CSE at present. Moreover, college-wise, IIT Kanpur is way ahead of IIT Dhanbad.

Therefore I would recommend you choose BSc. Statistics and Data Science at IIT Kanpur over CSE at IIT Dhanbad.
