Which among the following should I join if given the options: IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak, or IIM Trichy?

PK
Parneet Kaur Posted On : January 17th, 2023
A KPGP 16-18 | IIM Trichy | Core Member, Cultural Committee

Given below are the reasons why you should choose IIM Trichy over IIM Ranchi, and IIM Rohtak:

  • According to statistics, IIM Trichy has one of the highest average compensation packages among the new IIMs. The highest and average packages offered during the 2022 placement drive, according to the final IIM Trichy placement report, was INR 34 LPA and INR 17.01 LPA, respectively.
  • Although all of the IIMs are relatively new, IIM Ranchi and IIM Rohtak, which were founded in 2009, are older than IIM Trichy, which was founded in 2011. Nonetheless, IIM Trichy continues to coordinate the CAP for newer IIMs.
  • IIM Trichy has the most full-time faculty of any new IIM, with 35. Furthermore, the majority of the faculty here are fellows of IIM A, B, C, K, TISS, JBIMS, NUS Singapore, and others, and they all have extensive industry experience.

Furthermore, because there is enough permanent faculty, students have a wide variety of subjects to choose from as electives in the second year, which is yet another factor that keeps IIM Trichy ahead of the competition.

Trichy is nearly equidistant from two of India's fastest-growing business hubs, Chennai and Bangalore. And the city is well-connected to both of these cities by rail, road, and air. This improves accessibility as well as placement. Furthermore, there are numerous tourist attractions nearby, including Ooty, Pondicherry, Rameshwaram, Munnar, and others, all of which are within a few hours' drive of the campus. Trichy is also consistently ranked as one of the cleanest cities in India.

What do I have to do to get a call from SP Jain or XIMB?

MJ
Manu Jha Posted On : March 13th, 2023
PGDRM, PRM38 from Institute of Rural Management, Anand

My answer will be strictly pertaining to SP Jain as my sister is a student there and I have quite a lot of information about the admission criteria there. SP Jain has unique criteria wherein almost 70% of the parameters are uncontrollable. Some of them include

  • Past Academic Record
  • Nature of work experience and employee brand value
  • Extracurricular background
  • Diversity of profile

These are some factors that are hardly in one’s control. So one should not be disappointed if she/he lacks in these aspects. Well, it is now that the factors that are controllable come into the picture. You can work on these factors and compensate for the flaws in your profile

  • Prepare for CAT/XAT/GMAT to the best of your ability.
  • Filling out the application form with a genuine portrayal of your personality and candidature in the fields where you are asked about your versatility, leadership quality etc.

If the stars align, you will surely get a call. From what I have heard, every PGDM batch has students with both exception profiles as well as normal profiles. So what you need to focus on is finding a unique trait of yourself and working on it relentlessly.

AJ
Arshit Jain Posted On : February 15th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India (2006–present)

To apply to the Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad, you must have a profile with average academics. However, a high GMAT score of 720 or higher can strengthen your application. The admissions committee at ISB Hyderabad receives a large number of applications from IT and engineering backgrounds, so it's important to stand out from the competitive applicant pool.

In your essays, it's crucial to highlight the initiatives you have taken to make a difference in your company or with your clients. Explain your strengths and weaknesses, why you are applying to ISB, and how it aligns with your career goals. ISB Hyderabad is looking for well-rounded and versatile individuals who have demonstrated leadership qualities, whether it's through leading teams or taking initiative in their professional or personal life.

Participating in volunteer work for NGOs or organizations you care about can also help demonstrate your commitment to making a positive impact in society. This can set you apart from other applicants who might only focus on work and study.

Should I join NMIMS Mumbai (MBA core) or wait for another year

VP
Varun Pandya Posted On : February 28th, 2023
MBA from SVKM's NMIMS (2015)

Waiting for another year and dropping NMIMS is only justifiable if you are certain to get into the top 5 like IIM ABC and FMS. Otherwise forgoing this opportunity might not be a wise decision mainly because

  • Your work experience of 22 months is the right time to do an MBA
  • CAT is extremely certain. You might have been able to make it into NMIMS, but there is no guarantee you will be able to clear CAT next year again
  • NMIMS has a 100% placement percentage so you will definitely end up with a good package
  • The brand name is more than enough to add to your CV

Moreover, if you are willing to enter the Marketing sector, it’s still not late as FMCG don’t prefer candidates with much work experience. But if you are interested in Strategic Management, you can wait for a year and target the top 5 B Schools.

So the end note is, forgo the offer if you are certain you can make it into the top 5 else grab this opportunity.

Can a student with average academic records get an admission in IIM, Calcutta?

AC
Apratim Chatterjee Posted On : December 12th, 2022
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur

Academic records for sure are extremely crucial for your admission criteria. But they are not the only basis for determining one’s capabilities and qualifications.

Many times there are instances wherein people with high academic scores like 97%, 98%, and 99% fail to get admission into IIM Calcutta. This is because they are good at academics but lack communication and other crucial skills. One posed with out-of-the-box questions or asked to communicate efficiently they face serious problems. The interview panel at once realized that the person is not fit for admission.

In many other cases, people with average academic records get into IIM Calcutta. This is because, despite low scores, they exhibit exceptionally good communication skills and think more creatively. The interview panel realizes that academic scores can be the main but not the only deciding factor for admission. One needs skills to get into IIM Calcutta. The recruiters prefer a dynamic, vibrant, and hardworking student and worker rather than a bookworm.

So rather than worrying about your average scores, just upgrade your skills and prepare well for the interview.

Have any BBA or BMS grads made it to IIM Ahmedabad?

Sayantani Barman Posted On : December 5th, 2023

I’ve had the opportunity to visit IIM Kozhikode, IIM Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad for various competitions. While at these institutes, I interacted with many students. Some of them were from Economics background, and one had even completed her graduation in Philosophy.

Students from all these backgrounds, including BBS/BMS enjoy the diversity factor. This gives them an upper hand in the selection process over Engineers. But to enjoy this benefit, one must have a good CAT score, and a good academic record.

Prepare well for your CAT, and make sure you have a good academic record. If you fulfill these criteria, you’ll get into IIM Ahmedabad, regardless of your educational background.

Also, make sure to prepare well for the quant section of CAT. This is where the engineering students outdo the candidates from other academic backgrounds.

Is an FPM from a newer IIM, say Udaipur, worth it or should I try again next year?

RD
Rajvi Doshi Posted On : January 18th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur (2021)

The current leading USP of IIM Udaipur is its highly enriched research culture which has made it among the top IIMs in this aspect specifically. The NIRF rankings also speak of its rising status over the last few years. Some highlights of the FPM program from IIM Udaipur are

Some world-class faculties from IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta visit the campus of IIM Udaipur to spread their knowledge and sophistication to FPM students. This is done through coaching programs and workshops where you can identify your inclinations and talents.

The faculty of the FPM department is dynamic and capable of a concerted arrangement required to produce research through its students and themselves.

Research is something that requires your efforts at a personal level. So joining a 2-year Research program will be beneficial to you only. You can also switch to better research programs or even redo your Ph.D.

To initiate a career in research, one needs serious personal commitment, else there are many instances wherein people have failed to make a career in research. The newer IIMs offer little scope in this aspect and Udaipur is an exception. So don’t lose this opportunity and go for it without much thought.
