Should I choose IIT Guwahati or IIT Hyderabad for an M.Tech in CSE?

AV
Advika Varangi Posted On : March 20th, 2023
M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IITH) (Graduated 2020)

If you are planning to pursue M.Tech in Computer Science, it is highly recommended that you consider IIT Hyderabad over IIT Guwahati. Some of the reasons are given below:

  • The data provided by the institute indicates that almost all students from the Computer Science department at IIT Hyderabad get placed in the first phase of placements, which is exclusive to the CSE branch. This is a significant advantage over IIT Guwahati.
  • Many students from other colleges also get placed in the Computer Science department at IIT Hyderabad, but most of them will be in IT firms. On the other hand, placements in IT firms at IIT Hyderabad will be nearly zero. Instead, most students will be placed in big companies such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and the Artificial Intelligence sector, among others.
  • The coding culture at IIT Hyderabad is one of the best among all IITs, with regular exposure to high-level coding competitions.
  • IIT Hyderabad's location is a significant advantage, as Hyderabad is a hub for many new companies, making it easy for HR to recruit from the institute.

In summary, it is highly recommended that you consider IIT Hyderabad for your M.Tech in Computer Science Engineering as it would offer you the best opportunities for your future career.

Which private university is better for an MTech - M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, REVA University, or PES University?

TP
Tiyas Pal Posted On : May 1st, 2023
studied Computer Science at PES University (2019)

If you are considering pursuing an MTech, in India, you may have come across some negative opinions about the value of this degree. Here are some things to consider while making your decision:

  1. Job Opportunities: It is not entirely true that no company hires PG students. However, it is true that the demand for MTech graduates is lower than that for Bachelor's graduates. Companies usually prefer Bachelor's graduates as they are considered more cost-effective and easier to train. However, some specialized fields like research and development, design and analysis, or product development may prefer candidates with a Master's degree.
  2. College Reputation: Some colleges in India have closed down their PG departments due to low demand, and some are running just for prestige. However, there are still many reputed universities in India that offer MTech programs. While choosing a college, you should research the reputation of the college and the credibility of the program.
  3. VTU Specialization: VTU, or Visvesvaraya Technological University, is a public state university in Karnataka that offers engineering programs. However, some specializations in VTU have fewer takers, with just 1 or 2 students, indicating low demand.

REVA University is a relatively young university in Karnataka, established in 2013. It is trying to build up its reputation and credibility by offering quality education and facilities.

MS Ramiah University and PES University are well-established and reputed universities in Karnataka, offering quality education and facilities. They have been on the top universities list or reputed universities list for a long time.

In conclusion, pursuing an MTech degree in India can still be a viable option, depending on your career aspirations and goals. While choosing a college, you should consider the reputation of the college and the credibility of the program. You can choose between a new university like REVA University or a well-established and reputed university like MS Ramiah University or PES University based on your preference and research.

Is it good to take ISM Dhanbad, M.Tech (mechanical) if I am getting in NIT Surathkal M.Tech (mechanical)? Which is better in terms of placements? Does ISM Dhanbad have the placements for M.Tech (ME)?

SG
Sharmila Ganguli Posted On : October 31st, 2020
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (Graduated 2018)

M.Tech Mechanical is a preferred stream but its success is directly proportional to the level of placements offered by colleges in comparison to the fees or investment made. The number of students enrolled is less compared to B.Tech making it a less lucrative option for campus placements.

The detailed analysis is as follows.

Eligibility:

  • The basic criterion stands at graduation with a minimum score of 50%.

  • The common examination accepted is GATE.

Fees:

  • NIT Surathkal has a fee structure of Rs. 1.85 Lakhs

  • ISM Dhanbad offers the course is Rs. 1.05 Lakhs.

ISM has fewer fees as compared to NIT Surathkal.

Placement Details:

The prime-most details to be focused upon are the average and highest placement scenario of both the colleges in general.

College

Placement

NIT Surathkal

Average-Rs.11.90 LPA, Highest-Rs. 18.75 LPA

ISM Dhanbad

Highest-Rs. 12.50 LPA

  • 79% placements in NIT Surathkal M.Tech as opposed to 50% in ISM.

  • Major Recruiters are Teradata, Cisco, Dell EMC, Riverbed Technology, and Huawei Technologies.

  • ISM M.Tech is not preferable for mechanical, it’s a sure shot option in case of CSE or Mineral engineering.

  • The only reason to prefer ISM is the IIT factor attached to it which makes it more appealing in terms of faculty and culture.

The choice can be made both on the basis of placements and college ranking with respect to the course offered. The packages offered in the Mechanical stream in NIT Surathkal are quite good as compared to those in ISM Dhanbad. NIT Surathkal also holds a reputation in the institutional list with respect to its 7th position in the list of NIT.
