How is AKTU for B.Tech?

HP
Himanshu Pahuria Posted On : November 7th, 2022
Student at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam University (2015-present)

One of my cousins is a student at AKTU (Abdul Kalam Technical University). She shared an incident with me which will give you an idea of this university.

During her semester exams at AKTU, she faced a challenging experience. Compiler Design is a subject in the 6th semester of B.Tech. Computer Science. On her compiler design exam day, the question papers were distributed 15 minutes late. It was a regular exam for the new semester. But what she saw shocked her. On the top, it was mentioned - Carry Over Theory Paper Examination. This was a back paper for students who are reappearing and not for regular students. Sometime later a teacher made them change the code of the paper and subjects. All the students were in a panic.

So if you are planning to pursue B.Tech. from AKTU, you should brace yourself for some major challenges.

What are the things I need to pack for college first year at KIIT University?

SD
Salini Dasgupta Posted On : July 26th, 2023
studied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2020)

As a first-year student at KIIT, pack all the basic things of your personal requirement. You will get more or less everything else from the college and the hostel itself.

The college dress code is a salwar suit for girls and formal shirt pants for boys.

In the girls’ hostel, after the first semester, the wardens may show some leniency and allow you to wear leggings and kurta instead of a suit and dupatta. This leniency is completely a warden’s choice. Pack these clothes accordingly.

During the first week at KIIT, you will have a school and university orientation. In it, you will be given all the important information in the central auditorium. After 2-3 days, you will get your laptop, books, bags, etc.

Both girls and boys hostels provide all the basic necessities to students. These include basic beddings, a mattress, a pair of bedsheets, buckets, etc.

You can carry extra bedsheets if you wish. Also, pack towels, personal things, and basic items like water bottles, toothpaste, body wash, pen stands, some containers, and hangers. You need not bring an induction if you are a girl student. This is because every girls' hostel has an induction on each floor.

You can pack straighteners, curlers, irons and other electronic appliances but at your own responsibility because the hostel does not allow it. However, it is obvious that none can do without an iron.

From books to notebooks, the college will provide you with everything. Bring a white and blue apron for the Chemistry and BMS labs. Also, bring a lock and key for your room and cupboard.

Do not worry much. You will love your stay here and make wonderful memories. I would say, make the most of your time at KIIT.

Are the students of NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, NIT Surathkal, and IIIT Hyderabad as good as an IITian/BITSian?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : April 26th, 2023

When it comes to being a good student in engineering, the key factor is the ability to think effectively and perform well in studies while maintaining excellent practical skills. However, the opportunities provided by the institute can also play a significant role in shaping a student's career and future prospects.

Here are some points to consider when evaluating the impact of opportunities on a student's success:

  • IITians are provided with ample opportunities to present their ideas and projects, which can give them an edge over other students. This may lead to more visibility and recognition for their work, resulting in better career prospects.
  • NITs may provide comparatively fewer opportunities, which means that even if a student has an innovative idea or project, they may not get the chance to present it to a wider audience. This could limit their visibility and recognition in the industry, despite their potential.
  • Private colleges may provide the least opportunities, which can make it difficult for students to showcase their skills and stand out in a crowded job market. This can also limit their exposure to industry trends and developments, which may hinder their growth as professionals.

However, it is important to note that the opportunities provided by an institute do not necessarily reflect the quality of education or the potential of the students. Here are some examples to illustrate this point:

  • Two engineers, one from an IIT and another from an NIT discover a new gadget that is not very effective. In this case, the IITian may have a better chance of presenting their idea to the public and gaining recognition, but it does not necessarily mean that they are a better student than the NITian. Both students may have equal potential and skills, but the opportunities provided by their respective institutes may differ.
  • Similarly, in private colleges, only a few students may get noticed because of limited opportunities, but this does not mean that the rest of the students are not capable or talented. It is possible that the other students have excellent skills and potential, but they did not get a chance to showcase their abilities due to a lack of opportunities.

In conclusion, while opportunities provided by an institute can play a significant role in shaping a student's career and future prospects, it is important to remember that they do not necessarily reflect the quality of education or the potential of the students. As a student, it is crucial to focus on developing your skills and knowledge and seek out opportunities to showcase your abilities, regardless of the institute you attend.

What is the saddest part of IIIT Delhi?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : October 5th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

The saddest part of IIIT Delhi is its poor reputation and deteriorating brand name. It’s still unknown among the masses because it’s a developing institute. Moreover, the additional I in IIIT stands for Indraprastha and not International so this is also a big disappointment.

Most people confuse IIIT Delhi with IIT Delhi because the former is unknown while the latter is highly reputed. The sad part is that IIIT Delhi is an excellent college in terms of academics, infrastructure, and highly qualified faculty members. But its brand name and reputation have affected its growth terribly.

One of my brothers' seniors at NIT Trichy got an offer from Google. He is from Metallurgical and Materials with a CGPA of 7.6. He has an excellent CV comprising his achievements like

  • Summer intern in 2014 at Google HQ.
  • Summer intern in 2015 at Microsoft.
  • Internship at Facebook HQ.

Currently, he is pursuing MS from NYU in Computer Science (Machine Learning). He is a shining example of ‘ Your success depends on your hard work and skills and not your CGPA’.

Are the extension campuses of BIT, Mesra in Jaipur, Deoghar, Allahabad etc. as good as Mesra itself (especially the placements)?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 16th, 2023

My brother is a student at the Jaipur extension campus of BIT Mesra. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of the Jaipur extension campus in particular, and all the extension campuses in general-

Disadvantages-

  1. The infrastructure is poor and not at par with the BIT Mesra main campus.
  2. The Jaipur campus offers limited courses and so, networking opportunities are limited.
  3. The Jaipur campus offers no hostel facility. However, you will be provided a list of PGs and Flats available near the campus as a form of assistance.

Advantages -

  1. You will get the BIT Mesra tag on your degree. This tag will help you for placements and higher studies. The faculty at the Jaipur campus is highly qualified.
  2. For placements, you can visit the BIT Mesra main campus and compete head-on with the main campus students. The Jaipur campus’s small batch allows for easier and better placements. Companies like Samsung R&D, SAP Labs, Amdocs, Verizon, etc. and also startups, offer good packages during placements. Core companies visit the campus every year for recruitments.
  3. The coding culture at BIT Jaipur is good and the students actively participate in ACM-ICPC and GSOC.
  4. BIT Jaipur students are doing really well in GATE and CAT. Many students from this institution receive offers for an MS from reputed foreign universities like Cornell, University of California San Diego, University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, etc.
  5. The BIT Mesra Jaipur branch is located in Malviya Nagar. It is a safe area with plenty of industries for good internship opportunities.

Overall, the Jaipur extension of BIT Mesra, and in fact all its extensions have some associated advantages and disadvantages. But as far as placements are concerned, each extension offers the same facilities as the main campus. In particular, the Jaipur campus also offers good internship opportunities due to its favorable location.

Are there any people with poor academic record who still got into any IIM, XLRI or FMS? If yes, why not share your stories here?

SM
Shruti Mishra Posted On : July 4th, 2022
Studied at Xaviers Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) - Jamshedpur

Yes, there are many people who converted IIM, XLRI, FMS calls, even with a poor academic record. I personally know someone who scored less than 50 percentile in engineering yet got accepted at XLRI. He performed well in MBA and now works as a senior HR at a major eCommerce company.

Academic record isn’t the only thing that these institute takes into consideration while selecting students. Your entrance examination score, performance in GD-PI, extracurricular achievements, etc. are equally important.

How is IIT Bhubaneswar Electrical as compared to other new IITs like Mandi, Indore, Hyderabad, Ropar, Gandhinagar, Dhanbad etc.?

AR
Aikantika Roy Posted On : July 9th, 2021
Studied at IIEST Shibpur (2019)

Since my cousin used to be a student of IIT Dhanbad, I might be able to give you some facts about the college which might give you a proper insight.

  • IIT ISM was formerly known as ISM Dhanbad. It boasted of a rich legacy and an equally rich infrastructure which is not true for the newly established IITs.
  • IIT ISM is technically a new IIT but practically it is not.
  • Because of the IIT tag, IIT Bhubaneswar and a number of other IITs had a very low opening and closing ranks.
  • IIT ISM initially had a high opening and closing rank. Many candidates did not want to join IIT ISM even after cracking JEE.
  • Many major companies visited the campus of IIT ISM during placements.
  • The salary package has been going up and the number of companies visiting the campus has also been increasing.
  • Some of the big names are PSUs namely OIL, MECL, CIL, IOCL, BPCL, ONGC, etc.

Categories

IIT ISM

Course Fee

8.75 lakh

Highest CTC

12 LPA

Average CTC

6-7 LPA

You can get a good job if you go for IIT ISM, as good as a job you can get from its Bhubaneswar counterpart.

Which is best to pursue an MTech in ECE: IIT Bombay or IISC Bangalore?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : July 14th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

I have a friend who is pursuing M.tech in Electronic systems engineering at IISc and a cousin who is pursuing M.tech at IITB too. So, I seem to be in the best position to compare IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore.

  • Academic environment: IISc has a rich research culture and you will find both faculty and students actively involved in dynamic research projects. A total of 42 departments offer rigorous courses that challenge the researcher within you. IISc also provides excellent opportunities to pursue any interdisciplinary field like microbiology, neuroscience, nanoscience, astronomy, genetics, etc. IIT Bombay on the other hand has a laid-back culture and curriculum that is more placement-oriented. Only passionate students are motivated enough to involve in research activities.
  • Placement: IIT Bombay has diverse companies visiting for placements while IISc usually has only core companies. Moreover, the students applying for placements are at IIT Bombay than IISc because IISc students prefer higher studies or research. So we can say that IIT Bombay has a more active placement cell than IISc.
  • Extra-Curriculars: IIT Bombay is known for its vibrant campus life and huge events that are organized to give the students a break from academics. IISc is a bit lacking in this aspect as its sole focus is on in-depth research. However, it does have all basic modes of refreshments like Hockey, Football, Archery, Swimming, and cultural societies for Drama, Music, Photography, and Literary
  • Higher Studies: Although both IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore have excellent prospects and opportunities for higher studies, it no brainer that IISc Bangalore will encourage you more for higher studies, and a Ph.D. from IISc is an excellent choice.

Ultimately, the final decision depends on what your prospects are and what you expect from your college life. If your main goal is to pursue full-scale research then IISc is the best place for you but if you also want to experience a great campus life and get placed then IIT Bombay will serve you better.

How is your experience at KIIT?

SD
Salini Dasgupta Posted On : July 26th, 2023
studied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2020)

Initially, KIIT was a backup plan for me. I thought that because I couldn’t get into the IITs or BITS, I wouldn’t make a good engineer. KIIT completely changed my perception with its teaching methodology. I have grown immense confidence over here.

One of my teachers at KIIT guides me on the various opportunities that lie ahead for me. He also gives me valuable guidance on how I can become the best version of myself. We receive every tip and all the facilities that are needed to become a successful engineer. I feel that this is the place that I always needed.

KIIT has an Institute of Eminence(IoE) tag. One of my seniors got placed in his dream company, Robert Bosch.

Another published a paper in IEEE under her professor.  An alumnus told me about the semester exchange program in Taiwan, the benefits of which he is reaping in his professional life.

There are various extracurricular activities at KIIT. There are societies, fests, seminars, workshops, etc. which help with our personality development.

KIIT is a very good choice to pursue your studies.
