There are 4 hostels for girls;

1. Pandita Gargi hall (PG)
2. Kasturba Gandhi hall (KG)

3.Sarojini naidu devi hall (SD)

4. Hansa Mehta hall (HM)

My friend is a pass out of MSU and she claims Hansa Mehta hall to be one of the best hostels. Some hostel facilities include

• Housing and food are extremely affordable for anyone. Hostel fees are around Rs.7000 yearly. 
• Every hostel has its own mess and canteen. Food quality is average but provided at a very nominal price.
• Hostel rooms are good, well-ventilated, and spacious. 
• You will be sharing the room with 4 other girls. Despite that, you will have your own bed, cupboard, table, chair, and other facilities.
• Rooms are cleaned by the maids every alternative day so you don't have to worry about hygiene at all.
• Each wing has 20 rooms and 5 common toilets and bathrooms. The condition of the bathrooms is average.
• The hostel has a 24/7 wi-fi facility.
• The location of the hostel is what makes it the most convenient one. Located in the center of the city it is surrounded by the railway station, bus station, mall, and local market. So you don't have to spend much money and time on transportation.

All these facilities make it the cheapest, safest, and best option for girls.

Yes, there is a hostel facility in KJ Somaiya but not specifically for Engineering students. It’s a shared residence for engineering, commerce, and arts stream students. There are two hostels on the campus of KJ Somaiya:

1. Polytechnic hostel
2. SIMSR Hostel

Polytechnic hostel

Pros:

The crowd here is more than that of the Management hostel. This is because

• Cheaper than Management hostel
• Better food than Management hostel
• Located in the vicinity of engineering college

Cons:

• Mixed crowd
• Common washrooms
• Condition of rooms not as good as management hostel
• Has bunk beds 

SIMSR Hostel

Pros:

• The crowd here is good so you grow as a better person
• They give preference to management and engineering students both. 
• NRI students get the most priority here
• Very comfortable rooms and better facilities 
• Some engineering faculty also stay here so they can be consulted during any emergencies 

Cons

• Hostel fees are extremely high almost thrice as the polytechnic hostel
• Food is not as good as polytechnic hostel
• Chances of getting into this hostel are rare

Unlike the general belief, the hostels at Anna University are indeed in good condition. People spread false information regarding its conditions. Some points that support this fact are

• The hostel management has taken keen interest in maintaining the quality of the hostel. 
• Separate boys and girls hostels are available with separate mess facilities also.
• Good Wi-Fi connection with restrictions on some websites help students concentrate on their studies.
• Your hostel room will be shared by 4 people so you can make friends for your lifetime.
• The food here is good but is repeated a lot and you might get a bit bored after some time.
• A TV hall has been opened for entertainment purposes. You can spend your leisure time there either watching TV or reading newspapers.
• The bathrooms are clean and proper hygiene is maintained within the hostels.

All these points made me believe that the hostels of Anna University are not as bad as people often portray them.

The international hostels at Anna University are one of the best hostel facilities provided by a government university. The facilities here are like no other hostel. The hostels provide:

• Air-conditioned rooms

• Electrical appliances like a geyser, fridge, and microwave

• The hostel also has industrial washing machines with dryers

All these amenities make international hostels in Anna University top notch. The only drawback is that now the administration has started accepting local students into international hostels just because they pay a lot of money.

For NIT Jalandhar hostel, all you can pack is some clothes and items of basic need. Most of the basic necessities can be met by the NIT Jalandhar General Store which has toiletries and other essentials. Apart from clothes, you should also pack:

• Shoes

• Slippers

• Odomos

• Mattress

• Extra snacks

• Badminton rackets if you want to play

• Bed sheets 

• Blankets

• Pillows

These are some major necessities that you can bring from home. Other miscellaneous items can be bought from the shops within the campus.

 NIT Jalandhar

NIT Jalandhar has 7 old hostels and one Mega hostel. The Mega hostel has 3 blocks with a capacity of 800 each.

• Hostel 1 and 2 are for first-year students only.

• Hostel 4 and 5 is for postgraduates 

• For girls, there are 2 old hostels and one mega hostel

• Hostel 6 and 7 have very small rooms but are pretty famous for their food.

• Old hostels don’t have Wi-Fi connections but only LAN ports.

• The rooms at Mega hostel are bigger and newer. The food is also better here. 

• The timings rule is more strict at old hostels than at Mega hostels.

IIT Delhi

IIT Delhi has an air-conditioned common mess for both boys and girls.

• During vacations, a special mess is run for both boys and girls

• It is compulsory for all hostel residents to avail the mess facilities.

• Apart from the common mess, there are two cafeterias, one located in the academic building and the other in the common mess building which caters to the needs of the students and faculty.

• One can roam freely across the campus at any time of the day.

• The hostel has a Common room for people to spend their leisure time. It is decked with a TV, newspapers, and magazines.

• Sports and other recreational facilities are available on the upper floors of the dining building.

I hope the above points gave you a clear understanding of the hostel facilities of the two institutes.

There are almost ten hostels or more for CEG boys. You will undoubtedly enjoy the hostel life there, despite the facilities not being as good as those at private colleges.

The cost of the hostel, including meals, will be about INR 22,000 per semester. The rules at the hostel are not too strict. You may roam until 10.30 p.m. Any electronic device is acceptable.

Every hostel will have a TV room. If you enjoy cricket, watching a game with your hostel mates in a lively atmosphere reminiscent of a cricket field would be an amazing experience. There will be wifi in every hostel.

Without hostels, college life would be dull. Join the hostel without thinking twice.

Hostel features:

• In the first year, 4 people per room plus a shared toilet and bathroom. However, the hostel block will differ between the second and third years.

• In the fourth year, there will be one person per room or possibly two, depending on the block you choose.

NIT Jalandhar has two hostels

1. Hostel 1- First-year students 

2. Hostel 2- Second-year students 

Hostel 1- Some of its features are:

• Decent infrastructure

• Good lawn. 

• Washing machines

• The mess food is above average

• TV room and a TT table 

Hostel 2- It has all the similar facilities. The only distinguishing feature between the two is that 

For internet, Hostel 1 has no LAN and Wi-Fi facilities but Hostel 2 does.

There are three hostels for girls at NIT Jalandhar namely GH1, GH2 and MGH. My friend was in GH1, which is the first-year hostel. Some rules that girls need to follow here are:

• Bring your own cutlery and crockery

• Bring your own mattress, pillow, blanket, linen, curtains, bucket, mug and table lamp.

• Girls are not allowed to leave Hostel premises after 8:00 pm

• You will have to mark your attendance in person.

• You cannot change your allotted room

• Follow the instructions mentioned in the notice board

• Any complaints should be reported in writing to the Caretaker with a copy to the Warden.

Apart from these rules, the girls hostel follows a strict schedule for every meal.

• Breakfast: 07.30 am to 09.30 am (On working days) 08.30 am to 10.30 am (On Sunday, Saturday and other holidays)

• Lunch: 12.30 pm to 02.30 pm

• Evening snack: 05.30 pm to 06.30 pm

• Dinner: 08.00 pm to 09.30 pm

Note: Food cannot be taken by the residents outside the Dining hall.
