The major factor that drives the decision of which course to pursue is the placements.

Infrastructure isn’t a key parameter for CSE. So, if you are interested in pursuing Computer Science, you can consider 2nd generation IITs like Patna, and Bhubaneswar. The quality of academics won’t vary much compared to older IITs.
For CSE, what matters more is your knowledge and skills, rather institute name. If you are among the top 10% of your class, you can compete with top rankers from old IITs.
CSE is a branch with unlimited opportunities and wide scope to explore. Opting for a CSE branch at a new IIT will surely let you explore many opportunities and will provide a good package as well. Looking at the placement statistics, IIT Jodhpur offers 16.73 LPA of average package whereas IIT Bhubaneshwar offers an average package of 11.44 LPA for CSE students. Both the IITs have placed 100% of their students, as per record of 2019. If you are interested to pursue CSE as your domain in graduation then preferring CSE at new IITs would be better.
Whereas, if you have an interest in research and pure Mathematics then you should opt for ‘Applied Mathematics’ at IIT Roorkee. IIT Roorkee offers two courses in Applied Mathematics viz. ‘Integrated M.Sc. (Applied Mathematics)’ of 5 years and ‘Two years M.Sc. (Mathematics)’ of 2 years. There are 30 seats in total for this course and the average package offered during placement is around 14.73 LPA. Companies like Adobe recruits 2 students each year offering the package of 38 LPA. Other companies that come for placement are Accenture, Goldman Sach Services, American Express, De Shaw. Moreover, top core IITs provide many opportunities in curricular activities too.
IIT KGP Mechanical is the best option among these. It is the oldest among these institutes and ranks in the top 5 technological institutes in the country consistently. So, you will have the leverage of better brand recognition.
The placement rate for Mechanical students is around 75%. Companies like Tata Motors, Mercedes, etc. visit IIT Kharagpur placements to recruit Mech students. The average package offered for this branch is around INR 12 LPA. The highest CTC offered goes up to INR 32 LPA.
IIT Roorkee and IIT Bhubaneswar both are good IITs with decent placement records. Even though IIT Bhubaneswar is a new name among Indian IITs, it’s doing quite well placement wise. The placement record of 2019 revels, 100% of CSE students got placement offers in IIT Bhubaneswar.
But being an old IIT, IIT Roorkee has a few advantages over IIT Bhubaneswar in terms of placement. Most of the(80%) programming companies that come to IIT Roorkee are open for all the branches. For example, FANG et al which is open for all in placement but does not visit IITs below Top 7–8 every year. There are also core Electrical Engineering job placements, including some top MNCs as well, which hire Electrical Engineering students only. So, you can have either options of programming jobs and core electrical engineering jobs. Adding to that, there is a larger alumni base, plus the availability of many facilities simply because IIT Roorkee is an older institute.
So, in terms of placement and future prospects between IIT Roorkee electrical or IIT Bhubaneswar CSE, IIT Roorkee electrical is a better choice.
Civil engineering placements at both IIT BHU and IIT Roorkee are quite good. In fact, overall placements at both of these premier institutes are at par irrespective of the branch (if you wish to go for the non-core sectors including finance, consultancies, IT, developer). Core sector placements were not up to the mark at IIT BHU previously but the department saw some good placements this year.

For undergraduate courses, the comparison between IIT BHU and IIT Roorkee is kind of pointless. Since both institutes are well-reputed institutes. The faculty base and facilities offered to students for undergraduate courses are almost similar. The required cutoff for admission at both institutes is almost the same.
Although in terms of placement IIT BHU is a little ahead of IIT Roorkee.
IIT Roorkee Chemical Engineering is better than IIT BHU Civil Engineering. It is an old IIT and offers good exposure. The student culture on campus is great.
IIT Roorkee placements are good for Chemical Engineering. Each year almost 100% of students get placed from the branch. The average CTC for the branch is around INR 14.5 LPA. While the highest CTC goes up to INR 1.54 Crore per annum.

There are mixed reviews about the placements of the chemical department of IIT BHU and IIT
Roorkee. Students of IIT BHU thinks they have good placements than IIT-R and vice-versa. A
senior professor of Chemical Department T IIT Roorkee, who is an alumnus of IIT BHU, visited the campus of IIT BHU last year. According to him, students at both of the institutes believe that grass is greener on the other side. The fact is placements in both the departments are almost equal.
Following are some of the examples for the same:
ITC, which offers 18L CTC, visited IIT-R and not IIT BHU, while HUL (Hindustan Unilever Limited), offering 22L CTC, visited IIT BHU, but not IIT Roorkee.
Core companies for Chemical Engineering like Aditya Birla, Reliance visits both the campus.
Now coming to branch change, in IIT BHU, a maximum of 10 percent of students can move from one branch to another, while in IIT Roorkee, it’s only 2 percentage. So, in the case of branch change, IIT BHU is more liberal for change in the branch, i.e. if there are 120 students at IIT BHU chemical department, 12 students can move for branch change while in case of IIT-R in the strength of 120, approximately 3 students would be able to do the branch change.
