Which one is better, IGNOU, or DU regular?
There is no clear winner in this comparison. Both options have their pros and cons. IGNOU offers distance learning education. IGNOU degrees have the required accreditation and are ideal for working professions or students who are pursuing other full-time courses. While DU is a public central university.
So, choosing from one of these completely depends on your requirement. However, in terms of exposure and opportunities, DU is better.
Is Nalanda open university better than IGNOU?
No, IGNOU is better than Nalanda Open University. It is world’s largest university and provides the following facilities.
- IGNOU study materials are free of cost.
- IGNOU results, examinations, and classes are conducted on time.
- It has many regional centers all across the country. You can change your learning center or place of examination as per your convenience.
- You will get more time to complete your courses without paying any additional fees at IGNOU.

Does IGNOU offer a degree in regular mode?
IGNOU did offer degrees in regular modes in the past. One of my seniors pursued her master’s degree from IGNOU on the regular campus. This was almost six years ago and the university discontinued its regular campus. It used to have three regular courses in collaboration with Madras School of Economics during that time and over 200 more other courses.
- You can still pursue courses in the distance mode from IGNOU. The university offers regular Saturday and Sunday study sessions. Also, for science and other degree practicals, classes are regular and mandatory.
- For courses like Ph.D. and Hotel management, the courses offered by IGNOU are regular. According to the UGC regulation, Ph.D. degrees can not be offered in distance mode.
IGNOU also offers coaching for the distance mode courses. But the syllabus and reference books followed for these coaching are entirely different from the regular mode courses it used to offer. The regular courses used to follow a syllabus similar to the Delhi University or Central University.
Which is better for an MA/MSc in psychology through distance learning, IGNOU or Annamalai University?
One of my friends completed his MA in Industrial Psychology through IGNOU. According to him, it is a well-thought-out course with a term-end examination, compulsory internship, and research projects. My friend also consulted with some practicing Psychologists regarding the study material. According to them, the course is at par with the regular university courses.
The advantage of this course is that you can complete the course over a period of 5 years and examinations are taken twice each year. So, you can take examinations for 2-3 subjects each term and complete the course easily along with a full-time course or job. Study Center and Regional Center are two points of contact for IGNOU.
Lately, there have been some issues regarding RCs and teachers in IGNOU. Going forward they need to address these issues.
What is the admission procedure of IGNOU courses?
Here are the details regarding IGNOU admission procedure.
- You can apply through the online mode. It is easier and time-saving. Register yourself on the admission page of the official website of IGNOU and fill in the application form. Fill out the required details carefully and upload the documents needed. Go through your application form once, and check for any errors. Once you are done reviewing, pay the admission fees through the online payment method.
- You can apply offline as well. Download IGNOU prospectus from the official website and submit your application form to IGNOU regional office, before the closing date.
Note that offline application mode is limited for a few courses and only some of the regional centers are accepting offline applications.
Is a Phd from IGNOU worth it/valuable?
Yes, a Ph.D. from IGNOU is valuable. It is accredited by UGC. So, a Ph.D. degree from IGNOU is accepted for any government jobs in India. Also, among the open universities, IGNOU is the only one that is recognized by most countries.
IGNOU offers fulltime PhDs. There are limited seats and admission is done through an entrance test and interview.
Is IGNOU good for B.Sc?
Yes, IGNOU offers decent BSc courses. Although it is a distance learning degree, the course work is heavy. You will have to submit assignments and attend practical classes regularly. IGNOU has a strict evaluation system. You need to go thoroughly through the study materials to score well. Pursuing the degree along with a full-time job or full-time degree will be hectic. So, if you are planning on pursuing a BSc degree, it will be better to do a regular degree instead.
What is the procedure for pursuing B.Ed from IGNOU?
IGNOU offers a distance B.Ed program with a duration of 3 years. For pursuing B.Ed from IGNOU, the candidates need to meet the following eligibility criteria.

The candidates should have minimum marks of 50% from a bachelor's degree or master’s degree with any stream (science/commerce/arts).

The students who have successfully completed NCTE recognized teacher education courses in an offline mode can also apply.

A diploma or trained in-service teacher is now an additional elementary education required for enrollment into B.Ed program in IGNOU.

There is a 5% relaxation scheme for SC/ST and PWD candidates as per the guidelines of the central government.

IGNOU is better for an MBA compared to Symbiosis distance. The course work is challenging. It’s not easy to clear papers unless you go through the study materials thoroughly. The curriculum is a bit old but it’s effective.
If you are hard-working and have relevant work experience, you can get recruitment opportunities after doing your MBA. IGNOU MBA is even valid for PhD/Govt. jobs too.
