What should I do? I am getting civil engineering in Haldia Institute of Technology. Should I go with it or continue my preparation for the JEE 2021?

VR
Vedanta Roy Posted On : September 16th, 2021
B.Tech from Haldia Institute of Technology (2019)

Haldia Institute of Technology is a decent institute. If you are interested in civil engineering then you should rather continue with your preparation for the JEE. I say this based on the conversation I had with my friends from HIT.

  • The placement scenario for core branches at HIT is not good.
  • Companies that provide 10k - 20k salaries usually visit the campus for recruitment.
  • The least you would get is an opportunity to sit in an IT sector company which would be a waste of your talent, knowledge, skills after studying civil engineering for 4 years.
  • If you want to prepare for GATE or ESE exams, you would have to go to Kolkata for coaching. Online lectures are always an option but that requires your focus as well.

Therefore, it is advisable to opt for other colleges in Kolkata for any core branch rather than the Haldia Institute of Technology. If there is a possibility or you believe that you could get into NITs or IITs then go for a year drop to try out your best luck. Otherwise, do not take a risk with it.

Placement for core branches is not good irrespective of which private institute you belong to. So, if you are choosing a private institute make sure that it is in a location from where you can easily take coaching for competitive examinations such as GATE or ESE.

Common Mistakes and Preparation Tips:

  • The most common mistake made by GPAT aspirants is to skip topics like Medicinal Chemistry. This is a scoring subject so try to cover it properly to get a good rank.
  • The best way to prepare for the GPAT exam is to have a proper timetable. Try to make a timetable you will adhere to so that you can prepare consistently.
  • Preparing in order to clear the cutoff is another common mistake. Many aspirants try to score just enough to clear the cutoff which is not a great idea as cutoffs tend to differ every year. Try to prepare in a holistic manner and cover all the aspects.
  • Not covering the numerical aspect of the exam syllabus can significantly impact your rank.
  • Being overconfident in your ability is a huge mistake. If you have covered the entire syllabus, then try to solve last year’s question papers and sample papers to check your progress.
  • Blindly reading reference books like Lachman, Goodman, etc without understanding them is the most common mistake. Also, avoid making certain books like Pearson or Inamdar, your main reference material.
  • Not making notes is another common mistake. Try to make notes for all the topics so that your revision is completed on time for the exam.

The best way to prepare for the GPAT exam is to avoid these common mistakes and to study all the given topics. Keep practicing and solving question papers frequently to overcome the time limitations during the examination.

IIM Rohtak

Being one of the prestigious colleges in India, IIM Rohtak provides a comprehensive understanding of the legal aspects which affect various industries. It gives you an added advantage since you’re learning law and business together.

IPL (Integrated Program for Legal) has just started and to get admission you must have a valid CLAT scorecard. Considering that IIM Rohtak is primarily a Business school, it’s reasonable that you get confused about whether you should choose it over other law colleges but you also need to understand that being an IIM the college would not compromise on its teaching so you’ll be getting the best of faculty and infrastructure here. Although it would not be advisable to choose IIM Rohtak over other top-tier law schools in India.

Which colleges can I opt for with a score of 203 in NMAT? Also, which one is better, NMIMS Bangalore or XIMB-HR?

ST
Shubham Tiwari Posted On : March 1st, 2023
MBA from SVKM's NMIMS

It is strongly advised to not consider XaHR for your educational pursuits. The return on investment for this institution is unsatisfactory and its remote location, along with the diminished brand name, makes it a less desirable option.

Regarding NMIMS Bangalore, it is an emerging institution that has the advantage of being located in a well-established area and having the well-known brand name of NMIMS Mumbai. For someone starting their educational journey, NMIMS Bangalore could be a reasonable choice. However, if you have other options, it is ultimately up to you to decide. If you scored 203 on your entrance exams, you have a decent chance of being admitted provided you perform well in your personal interview.
