- It is a very coveted engineering college but the insiders want to escape from the rigid environment here.
- The majority of students pay little or no attention to their branches as they get placed in IT or consulting firms.
- There is a massive communication gap between the faculty and students.
- The classroom sessions are boring because of obsolete pedagogy or the communication gap between students and professors.
- You get used to a highly rigid schedule sometimes with multiple tests and assignment submissions on a single day.
- Super stressful days become normal after a while. Today I had four tests and one assignment submission. It’s a normal day.
Ultimately you will realize that joining BITS is not a cakewalk and requires huge sacrifices and the ability to stand immense pressure.
I got admission (PGDM) opportunities from IIM Rohtak and IIM Udaipur! Should one go or sit for CAT again this year? Any suggestions?
Sitting for CAT again is honestly not a very easy decision. So I will suggest you go for IIM Rohtak itself. This decision will be beneficial under the following circumstances
- If your past academic performance is not really good. This is because the older IIMs lay emphasis on past academics too much which in reality cannot be changed. So why risk a year when the chances are nearly zero?
- If you already have 2 or more years of experience, it’s better you don’t forgo the opportunity.
- If you are interested in domains like Finance or Marketing, it’s better to join now. This is because working too much in the IT field limits your chances of getting into Finance and Marketing.
So based on these points you can come up with a decision that’s best for you. Just remember that despite being new, IIM Rohtak belongs to the IIM family which in itself is a brand.

My sister used to be a student of Thapar University so I think I can give you some information regarding the institute.
Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of the TU.
Pros-
- The infrastructure is really good. You will get Wi-Fi at around 4Mbps, Sports facilities are good, and the accommodation is really good.
- There are a lot of research opportunities that you can pursue without a lot of questions.
- You will have to attend college only 5 days a week. You get off for 2 days and you can travel around a city.
- Patiala is a nice city. It has all the basic amenities.
- There are a lot of cultural events and societies you can be a part of. The campus is really good.
- The placements are really good. According to the recent statistics, the highest package offered was 28.5 LPA.
Cons-
- There are teachers who are fresher in the field of teaching and lack the skills required.
- There are a lot of cultural activities, but the students raise the money only by the exterior motive of making money.
- There are societies like Student Alumni Interaction Cell (SAIC), with biased selection criteria.
- There is the 75% attendance criterion.
- There is a 50% Punjab quota. You might see people with half your JEE marks in the same branch as you are.
Apart from this, the placement report of the college is good. Just keep your pace and give your best in your studies.
What are the drawbacks of NIT Kurukshetra?
There are a few drawbacks of NIT Kurukshetra that students and faculty have reported. These include:
- Girls have restrictions on their entry and exit time.
- The infrastructure needs to be improved and the faculty needs to be more proficient in languages.
- The lab equipment is obsolete and not enough attention is given to lab sessions.
- The institute offers limited opportunities in terms of research and projects.
- The institute has an outdated syllabus that is delivered through old-school pedagogy.
- The examination date sheet and the results are not released on time.
- Students who are unable to clear any subject in the current year, have to reappear for it in the next year.
- The location of the institute plays a huge role in diminishing its reputation. Kurukshetra is not a city but a town with poor transport facilities, infrastructure, and no places to explore
- The marking patterns adopted by the professors are poorly designed.
- The classroom sessions are monotonous and leave students disinterested in the particular course. The classrooms have poor facilities, such as no ventilation, projectors, and ACs.
- The cultural fest is given more importance and receives more funds than the technical ones.
However, NIT Kurukshetra has more pros than cons so if you don’t have any other option, you can go for this institute and work hard to achieve your goals.

Which is better: IIT Hyderabad or BITS Hyderabad ?
Here we are comparing a public institute with a private one, and therefore there will be areas in which IIT-H will hold a better rating than BITS-H and vice versa. Let’s see how both the colleges perform on various aspects-
NIRF Rankings- As per latest NIRF rankings, IIT Hyderabad has been ranked as the 8th best engineering college in India and the 22nd overall. While BITS Hyderabad has been ranked 30th for engineering and 27th overall.
Course Fee- IIT Hyderabad has comparatively lower fees for its courses than BITS-H, which is one of the benefits of a public institute and a private institute normally charges a high fee for its courses.
Infrastructure- BITS Hyderabad is the newest BITS Pilani campus and therefore provides well-furnished classrooms, modern laboratory equipment, and is a well-equipped one. While IIT Hyderabad also being a relatively newer IIT has good infrastructural facilities, but BITS-H definitely holds a stronger position in this aspect.
Placements-
IIT-H: As per the latest placement data of IIT-H, in 2020 the highest package received was 60.41LPA and the second phase is yet to be completed. IN 2018-19, IIT-H recorded the highest package of 53.80LPA and an average package of 18LPA. Some of the major companies visiting the college are Accenture, Bank Of America, ISRO, Qualcomm, Infosys, Cap Gemini, Amazon, and many more.
BITS-H: As per the 2016-18 data, around 94% of the total students get placed every year. The maximum salary offered has been 14LPA, 3.6LPA being the minimum, and 5LPA being the average. Around 200 companies visit the college every year for recruiting the students. IBM, ICICI, Ola, TCS, Intel, Flipkart, Facebook, KPMG, L&T, Amazon, and many more are some of the top recruiters in the college.
So, both the colleges have advantage over the other in some aspects but both are good and well-recognised institutes of the country. An admission in any of the two would not be a bad investment and you should make your choice as per your suitability and resources.
