It is great that you are thinking of pursuing IPM being in class 11. You have enough time. You can think of starting with Pearson’s IPM entrance guide. Figure out if you can solve the questions or not. If required, join online coaching classes like CareerAnna.

  • Develop the habit of reading. Start with novels that you might like in your preferred genre and move on to articles from the Indian Express or The Hindu.
  • Expand your knowledge and vocabulary.
  • Attempt one mock at least per month and one every week after your 12th grade. Analyze your mistakes and work on them.
  • Practice writing essays for WAT. You might be asked to write on random topics so ensure that you can write creatively within 20 minutes.
  • You can look at the previous topics asked in the examination which might help you.
  • In the interview round, prepare for current affairs and things you did in your 12th grade. GK and current affairs are essential for your preparation.
  • You can revise your academics, general HR questions and talk about your hobbies a week or two before your interview.
  • Ensure that your hobby stands out. Be thorough about it.
  • You need to set yourself apart from others for the college to see what is the unique thing that you can bring to the table.

Finally, be consistent in your work and start building your resume right away. Back your hobby with certificates, participate in competitions, and any other significant achievements you may have made along the way. Volunteer at a local NGO since social work is highly appreciated on your CV.

How can I prepare for IIM Indore or IIM Rohtak IPM exams? I am currently in class 11 with commerce stream and ISC board (and not showing off, I got a 93 avg in English, class 10 ICSE board).

IPM from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Expected 2024)

Your English grades have no bearing on your ability to perform well at either IIM Indore, or IIM Rohtak, IPM exams. The type of English skills required to pass the IPMAT (or any other entrance exam) differs greatly from what is taught in schools. You have plenty of time to prepare and will undoubtedly do well if you are consistent in your preparation.

Begin with Pearson's IPM entry guide. There are currently no IPM-specific books available from any other publisher. Check to see if you can answer the questions. If you believe that a book alone will not suffice, consider taking online classes from a reputable coaching institute.

Entrance is not the only selection criterion; you must also prepare for the PIWAT. Practice writing essays for the WAT (Written Ability Test). The actual topic could be anything under the sun, so you must be adaptable enough to come up with something creative in 20 minutes. Look for previous WAT IPM and CAT topics online and practice them. You'll get better with practice.

Then there's PI. The conversation usually revolves around your academics, general knowledge, hobby, or general HR concerns. For that, you must be well-versed in current events from the previous six months as well as your 12th syllabus. Do general knowledge and current events in addition to your regular preparation, and brush up on your academics a week before the interview.

First and foremost, start your preparation early on.

Begin with coaching material from TIME or Career Launcher. The books from these two coaching institutes are good. Apart from the study material from coaching centers, here’s a list of books which will prepare you well for CAT-

  • QUANTS- “How to Prepare for Quantitative Aptitude for CAT”
  • LOGICAL REASONING- “How to Prepare for Logical Reasoning for CAT”
  • ENGLISH- “How to Prepare for Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension for CAT”
  • VOCAB- “Word Power Made Easy”
  • PREVIOUS PAPERS- “Previous Years CAT Solved Papers”

Try to solve each question from these books, and do not waste your time on any more books/notes than the ones prescribed above. Buy the latest edition books. If you live in Delhi NCR, you can buy coaching study material in NAI-SARAK (chawri bazar metro station) for less than Rs. 1000.

Prepare well for CAT, and you are sure to get into the top IIMs, even IIM Ahmedabad.

How do I study current affairs for IES?

SS
Seema Shukla Posted On : January 18th, 2021
International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar (2020)

IES or Indian Engineering Services is a national-level exam for all B.Tech graduates. The exam is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Services Commission) every year. It is open to all engineering graduates irrespective of their branches.

The exam is conducted in three phases: Prelims, Mains and personal interview.

Syllabus

Paper 1

Total marks

Paper 2

Total marks

Prelims

General studies and engineering aptitude

200

Engineering discipline

300

Mains

Engineering discipline- 1

300

Engineering discipline 2

300

As mentioned in the table, current affairs are a part of paper-1 in prelims. There is no definite syllabus for current affairs; anything can come under the sun. The pattern is not fixed in current affairs. Therefore, it is safe to study both currents as well as static.

Sources:

Current Affairs Magazine:

Since general knowledge is required only for prelims, it's better to follow current affairs magazines rather than following daily newspapers.

  • Made easy’s yearly current affairs magazine is most recommended.
  • Coaching institutes also provide current affairs notes to their students. The combination of coaching material and current affairs magazine is more than enough for the general knowledge section.

English Bazaar: There are a lot of online sites where students can get sufficient current affairs materials for preparation. Exambazaar is one such website. It provides current affairs in a structured and organized manner. Segregated into different categories, such as-

  • National
  • International
  • Business and Economy
  • Banking
  • Sports
  • Important Dates
  • MoU agreements
  • Govt. policies and schemes

The new contains just gist and related topics. It is quite easy to understand and remember. Englishbazzer also has monthly and weekly capsules of current affairs.

So, subscribe to the daily current affairs resource which is convenient for you and get them mailed. In this way, you can read them every day and also revise.

How do I prepare for the NICMAR entrance exam if I'm planning to get a top 5 percentage scholarship?

DD
Dev Dixit Posted On : September 29th, 2021
Studied Advanced Construction Management at the National Institute of Construction Management and Research (2019)

In the NICMAR admission process, maximum weightage is carried by NCAT Exam (150 Marks). It has three sections which are as follows:

Preparation Time: 3 Months

  • Quant: R.S Aggarwal or equivalent aptitude books will be best for this section. Some questions are really easy that can be solved in less than a minute. If you want to maximize your score, practice moderate-level questions of other MBA entrance exams. Be thorough with percentages, allegations and mixtures, ratios, time speed, and distance, and like topics as questions are asked from these topics.
  • Data Interpretations: There are multiple books available for Bank PO Exams in which such sets are available. You can just go through them. It is sort of a puzzle so you will have fun doing it.
  • Verbal and GK: Reading Comprehension is very easy. Just practice a few comprehension available in any competitive exam book. This section also tests your vocabulary as synonyms and antonyms questions will be based on your vocabulary. GK questions are really easy and you’d have read them somewhere even if you are not a news freak. To sum up, if you read the newspaper daily and practice a few comprehensions, synonym antonym, grammar questions, you are more than ready for this section.

In NCAT, speed matters the most. You should solve the easy questions first. Do not waste your time if you are finding any questions tough. Just move on. Most importantly, you should improve your grade in UG. Participate in competitions and earn certification. Nothing much can be done as what you have done earlier matters here.

During the personal interview, brush up on your basics of civil engineering (concrete and building material especially). The basic HR questions will be asked like why do you want to join NICMAR, what are your long-term goals etc. They also test your speaking skills by giving you a topic to speak on. So, you can also practice it as it will be good for you in the longer run.

How should one prepare for the GD/PI/essay writing round for the IIFT entrance exam?

RR
Roshni Roy Posted On : March 19th, 2021
Studied at Medi-Caps Institute of Technology and Management (2018)

The GD and PI round depends completely on your knowledge about the respective topic, current trends, general knowledge, etc. The interviewers tend to check how practical and logical your approach is towards a particular question.

There are certain pointers to be kept in mind while preparing for the GD/ PI/ Essay Writing round for the IIFT entrance exam. They are discussed below -

  • Since most of them come from an Engineering background, a deep knowledge of economics is not something they are looking for. The ability to apply basics and the enthusiasm to be keen to acquire knowledge of the current economic condition of the country and the world is expected as you must be an alert citizen to be a good future manager.
  • You must read and gain knowledge about BRICS, IMF and WTO; countries with their capital cities and currencies, Indian economy's present scenario, role of the sector which you belong to, budget, etc. It is important to read - "The Hindu" and "Indian Express".
  • You can be questioned about your low scores in Graduation, in spite of being an above average student throughout their career and a genuine answer should be given.

IIFT sends a CV form which includes various questions like a student’s achievements, failures, regrets, ethics, practical knowledge, something inspirational, etc.

Since it is sent almost a month before the interview date, you must keep a copy of it and try answering all the possible questions on it. Because that is how they will conduct the interview.

You must also be prepared to answer some questions related to their academics, their favourite subject and then ask questions related to that.

I am a 2nd Year Undergraduate student of IIT Kharagpur. How I should prepare for this exam within the two upcoming years of my life?

SG
Senjuti Gupta Posted On : March 28th, 2023
studied at IIT Kgp

Being a 2nd-year student is too early to start preparing for UPSC CSE. You might tire yourself out and when the actual time comes to outperform, you might not have the energy left to cope. Here are some guidelines that might help you prepare for this exam well in advance.

  • Know your CSE syllabus well
  • Read NCERT books of History, Political Science, Geography, and Economics from classes 6-12. This will broaden your knowledge base and you will become well aware of economic policies which can be adopted in a particular social sector.
  • Another great way is to start reading the newspaper on a daily basis. Keep yourself well acquainted with the happenings in your country in the economic and other sectors. Develop your own opinions on the various issues prevailing in society.

However, just reading NCERTs will not suffice for the exam. There are some additional standard books that you need to master to prepare well for your UPSC CSE exam.

  • Bipin Chandra's India's Struggle for Independence and History of Modern India.
  • M. Laxmikanth is the bible of Indian polity.
  • Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh for economics
  • Challenge and Strategy: Rethinking India's Foreign Policy.
  • Environment & Ecology: Biodiversity, Climate Change, and Disaster Management by Majid Hussain

These books will help you become well-versed in various topics asked in UPSC CSE.

The major prerequisites for preparing for the UPSC CSE exam are NCERTs, the standard books I have mentioned, and The Hindu newspaper. These will help you ace the exam. Additionally, you can work for NGOs to get a sound knowledge of prevailing issues, and practice writing answers and you will be well on your way.
