Why do people say that the fees at Thapar University are so high when most other private colleges have higher fees?

DC
Dhruv Chowdhury Posted On : August 7th, 2023
studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Thapar University is one of the oldest universities that dates back to 1956. It’s not logical to compare it with the newly established private colleges as it’s better than them in terms of literally everything be it academics, placements, and overall student development.

However, it has been receiving criticism recently because of its increasing fees. The reason this has become a problem is the high intake of students with average scores who are able to afford the high fees. The quality of the crowd is being compromised by charging high fees and is affecting the academic ambiance to a great extent. This is exactly why it’s being criticized for high fees even though most private colleges have high fees.

Most students with good scores consider Thapar University their last option when they aren’t able to make it to IITs and NITs.

What percentage of the total batch of MBAs at IIM Lucknow go for a foreign semester exchange in their second year?

RR
Rajnikant Rajan Posted On : January 16th, 2023
Dreamer, believer, lucky, high achiever in the future.

Typically, 50-60 students from a batch of about 450 at IIM Lucknow go abroad for an exchange term. At IIM Lucknow, it's known as the Student Exchange Program, or simply Stex. IIM L does not have affiliations with many prestigious business schools around the world. It has no affiliations with any schools in North America, with the exception of one or two in Canada. The majority of the schools with which it has collaborations are of average or poor quality in Europe.

So, either you should have a stellar profile, including your GPA in your first year at IIML, to get into a good school for Stex, or you should consider going to Stex for a three-month Europe tour with a complimentary term abroad to bring back some credits after you are done vacationing in Europe. If you're looking for good exchange programs, you should probably look into better B-schools in India like IIM A, B, C, or ISB.

What is the average class size at IIM Calcutta?

SM
Sangita Mukherjee Posted On : June 15th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Kolkata

The average class size of IIM Calcutta is 60 students for the first year. For second-year students, the average size of the class depends upon the specialization each student is opting for. Since marketing is one of the favorite subjects of MBA students, the size of a class of a marketing subject remains around 150-180. It further gets divided into sections, so the average size of a class for the second year is somewhere around 50-60. IIM Calcutta’s intake for the MBA batch is 462, so it is a bit hard to manage the class strength, so there might be little ups and downs in the numbers.

What is to be done in order to slide your branch from production engineering in MNNIT Allahabad?

RS
Rishav Sinha Posted On : November 30th, 2023
Studied at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad

As a former B.Tech student at MNNIT Allahabad, here is my advice on this matter-

To switch to some other branch from Production Engineering, you need to study hard during your first year. You don’t need to study as much as you did while preparing for your JEE, but you’ll have to work harder than your peers. It also depends on the number of vacant seats in the branch you wish to switch to. Many times, CS witnesses zero vacancies for branch sliding.

But do not spend all your time worrying about branch sliding. Enjoy your stay at the fresher hostels, as they are the best ones. Participate in tech events like ‘Avishkar’ and make good use of the 24*7 wifi connectivity.

Study for at least 4-5 hours a day, and score 8.5+ CGPA during first year to at least have fair chances at branch sliding.

What advice would you give to a freshman at IIT Kanpur?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : April 25th, 2023

First-year students of IIT Kanpur or any other institute are prone to distractions and thus need a disciplined approach to not lose focus.

  • Make sure you have a good CPI throughout. Everything eventually boils down to your CPI, be it placements, higher education, or anything else.
  • It’s a common experience for students to get a setback in the initial years considering the drastic change in the level of physics. You need to be patient and adapt yourself to the high-level courses.
  • Apart from your wingmates, befriend your batchmates in your department as well. This will help you form a study group during exams.
  • Don’t question your decision. Trust me, this is the best department you could be at. The opportunities offered will shape your career perfectly.
  • Balance out your academic stress with some extracurricular activities and enjoy your college life to the fullest.

Lastly, talk to your friends or professors in case of any problems!

MICA Ahmedabad has wonderful reviews everywhere. Why is that not seen in the rankings as well?

NS
Natasha Sinha Posted On : October 4th, 2023
Studied at MICA Ahmedabad (2019)

MICA Ahmedabad has wonderful reviews on Quora and elsewhere. But it is not seen in the rankings as well. Here are some key points to highlight when discussing MICA and its merits:

  • Non-standardized Format: MICA's unique education approach doesn't fit typical ranking criteria due to its specialized focus.
  • Diverse Factors: Traditional rankings consider infrastructure, curriculum, placements, etc., which may not fully capture MICA's creativity and marketing focus.
  • Unique Value: MICA offers significant value to creative management enthusiasts, even if it doesn't top all rankings. Graduates find fulfilling roles contributing to personal growth.
  • Holistic Growth: MICA fosters not just management skills but also personal development. Its campus, while not luxurious, creates a unique sense of belonging.
  • Intangible Benefits: MICA provides diverse experiences, interesting connections, and unique perspectives, which students highly value.

MICA may not fit neatly into conventional rankings due to its distinct approach and specialized focus. However, its unique value proposition, emphasis on personal and creative growth, and the intangible benefits it offers make it a compelling choice for those with a passion for marketing and creativity. When discussing MICA, it's important to emphasize these distinctive qualities to persuade prospective students.
