I am an MBBS student at CMC Vellore, and live in the hostel. All the MBBS male students at CMC share a common hostel. Each student forms a close bond with each and every one in the hostel.
The Men’s Hostel does not have curfew or other restrictions. The students look after the hostel and make necessary decisions. Even the hostel menu is decided by students.
Single room is available halfway through the first year. The Men’s Hostel is provided with-
The Men’s Hostel building is constructed around a large garden with a small pool in the center. The hostel garden contains stone benches. The hostel building is located right next to the college ground and a small hill called the ‘College Hill’.

Having lived at Jasper Hostel of IIT Dhanbad, I will be sharing my experiences with you-
The mess food is bad in taste. You’ll have to rely on Swiggy/Zomato or Amber Mess. The rooms are two-seater, and very small in size. Each room has a common cupboard, a granite shelf, and a LAN port.
The hostel has four blocks, but freshers get block A and D. Each hostel floor has 55 rooms and 4 washrooms. There’s a common room with a TV on each floor. The two hostel canteens remain open till late night. This is especially helpful during exam season.
The hostel has a Jio Wifi which offers 710 Mbps speed, and a limited data of 1 GB/per day. But the LAN has no data limits. It works from 6pm-2:30 am on weekdays, and day long on weekends. The hostel is located beside NLHC, RD and college library. The library has AC and high speed Wifi facilities.
Hostel will give you lifelong friendships, and everlasting memories. Make the most of your stay over here.
There are many uncommon things people often forget to pack. Here are a few things to bring along with you to the IIT Hyderabad hostel.
Other essential commodities can be easily bought from the local market at cheap prices.
The hostel life at SSN College of Engineering is worth remembering. It is a place that unites all the students and builds innumerable memories apart from different cultural and financial backgrounds, therefore giving you a family-like feeling away from your home. There is complete privacy and freedom for all the students.
The hostel life at SSN College of Engineering is full of freedom, it is solely your responsibility to use that in a particular way. You should create a perfect balance between your fun and studies and at the same time, you can enjoy college life to the fullest.
You will definitely have a great time in Sri City and probably not feel like going back home after the amazing four years you will spend here. One of my friends has experienced the amazing campus life. He got really attached to this place. You will miss your friends and having fun at 3 am in the morning.
The IFMR canteen is one place where you will eat every possible thing on the menu and not attend classes. You will also end up taking a number of spontaneous trips. Even the small nitty-gritty like not being able to stay awake during class, running around for attendance will become so ingrained in your daily life that you will end up missing them. The teachers here are more like friends instead of professors. You will also miss the happiness of getting an unexpected holiday.
Your hostel room is going to be a place of great memories. It will witness breakups, patch-ups, and you at your best and worse. Sri City and the college will become your second home.
The early morning sunrises, evening strolls around the campus as well as the petrichor of the rain right after the blistering summer in May are things you will come to appreciate. While you might enter as a frightened fresher, you will be leaving as an experienced graduate. You will learn to become independent and will have gone through some of life’s toughest lessons.
In other words, you will come to love this place so much, you will definitely have tears in your eyes as you leave from here on your last day. Some of your best days will be from IIIT Sri City.
No, it is not compulsory to stay in a hostel if you are a student at IISc Bangalore. You can become a day scholar too, but trust me if you do so you will be missing out on a huge part of your experience, hostel life. But there are several merits of staying in a hostel.
So, it depends on you if you want to enjoy the comfort of your home and become a day scholar or enjoy your hostel life to the fullest.
The following answer is based on my brother’s experience at NMIMS and may vary from person to person depending on their own personal expenses and standard of living. The table below shows the NMIMS MBA fee structure.
Particulars |
Data |
Total Fees |
INR 23.90 Lakhs |
Hostel fees (Non-Refundable) |
INR 2,25,000- 3,00,000 |
Hostel fees (Refundable) |
INR 10,000 |
From the above data the approximate cost is 26-27 Lakhs. The additional expenses like hanging out, fares, and miscellaneous activities can amount to 1 Lakh.
Now let’s consider you staying in a flat and not a hostel. The MBA fees remain the same. But the living expenses are considerably cut down. My friend lives in a flat with 5 people and shared her average expenses.
The total expenses including tuition fees amount to 30-33 Lakhs. I think it’s better to go to a hostel than to a flat.
Hostels of IIT Madras have the same facilities for UG, PG and Phd. students. Some hostels accommodate both UGs and PGs. M.Techs, MS students and Research scholars are given single seater rooms, but this is subject to availability. Else, they have to share a room with one or two other students. The hostel facilities are decent.
At IIM Ahmedabad, there are no restrictions on hostel timings, clothing, or entry of the opposite gender. Without any restrictions, all students are free to leave and return to campus whenever they want.
There are no restrictions on what students can wear anywhere on campus, including in class. The only exception to this rule is that students should dress formally for company presentations.
Students have complete freedom to visit the other gender's hostels whenever they want. Many of my friends had, for all practical purposes, shifted to their girlfriends' hostel rooms and were rarely seen in their own hostels. IIM Ahmedabad gives its students a lot of freedom and believes in the spirit of personal responsibility.
All IIM Indore students, including female students, are permitted to leave campus. There are campus buses that leave at regular intervals. One can also book their own transportation. The only restriction is that everyone must return by 11:30 pm unless there is a valid reason to be outside, such as a late-night flight.
