What are the perks of the CMC Vellore hostel?

A
Admin Posted On : May 3rd, 2024

I am an MBBS student at CMC Vellore, and live in the hostel. All the MBBS male students at CMC share a common hostel. Each student forms a close bond with each and every one in the hostel.

The Men’s Hostel does not have curfew or other restrictions. The students look after the hostel and make necessary decisions. Even the hostel menu is decided by students.

Single room is available halfway through the first year. The Men’s Hostel is provided with-

  • A decently equipped gym
  • Reading Room and Library with Wifi facility
  • Entertainment Room with-
    1. TT and carom facility
    2. an AV system with a 120 inch screen and projector
    3. home theater system
  • Hostel Chapel

The Men’s Hostel building is constructed around a large garden with a small pool in the center. The hostel garden contains stone benches. The hostel building is located right next to the college ground and a small hill called the ‘College Hill’.

Here are some pictures of CMC Vellore Men’s Hostel for MBBS students-

How is the Jasper Hostel at IIT Dhanbad?

RP
Roohi Pal Posted On : October 12th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (2020)

Having lived at Jasper Hostel of IIT Dhanbad, I will be sharing my experiences with you-

The mess food is bad in taste. You’ll have to rely on Swiggy/Zomato or Amber Mess. The rooms are two-seater, and very small in size. Each room has a common cupboard, a granite shelf, and a LAN port.

The hostel has four blocks, but freshers get block A and D. Each hostel floor has 55 rooms and 4 washrooms. There’s a common room with a TV on each floor. The two hostel canteens remain open till late night. This is especially helpful during exam season.

The hostel has a Jio Wifi which offers 710 Mbps speed, and a limited data of 1 GB/per day. But the LAN has no data limits. It works from 6pm-2:30 am on weekdays, and day long on weekends. The hostel is located beside NLHC, RD and college library. The library has AC and high speed Wifi facilities.

Hostel will give you lifelong friendships, and everlasting memories. Make the most of your stay over here.

What are the cons of being a hosteller at SSN College of Engineering?

SN
Sukanya Nair Posted On : July 27th, 2021
Studied at Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering, Tamil Nadu, India)

The hostel life at SSN College of Engineering is worth remembering. It is a place that unites all the students and builds innumerable memories apart from different cultural and financial backgrounds, therefore giving you a family-like feeling away from your home. There is complete privacy and freedom for all the students.

  • All the hostellers are attracted by the ambiance and at the same time, the hostel gives a complete study environment to all the students.
  • You end up making lots of friends with whom you can interact and exchange gossips regarding the various happenings.
  • There are different groups with whom you can debate on topics like cricket, or football leagues, discussing things regarding studies and whatnot.
  • The mess is not that good so students eat mostly in various cafes or streets building memories with friends.
  • Battling for water is one of the funniest incidents that often happen in the hostel. Students don't take bath for 2-3 days, which is considered part and parcel of college life.
  • The rooms are well-ventilated with comfortable cots so that the students feel very lazy and sometimes miss the morning class.

The hostel life at SSN College of Engineering is full of freedom, it is solely your responsibility to use that in a particular way. You should create a perfect balance between your fun and studies and at the same time, you can enjoy college life to the fullest.

How is life at IIIT Sri City, apart from academics? How are its campus and hostel life?

SP
Shaurya Pandey Posted On : March 16th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City

You will definitely have a great time in Sri City and probably not feel like going back home after the amazing four years you will spend here. One of my friends has experienced the amazing campus life. He got really attached to this place. You will miss your friends and having fun at 3 am in the morning.

The IFMR canteen is one place where you will eat every possible thing on the menu and not attend classes. You will also end up taking a number of spontaneous trips. Even the small nitty-gritty like not being able to stay awake during class, running around for attendance will become so ingrained in your daily life that you will end up missing them. The teachers here are more like friends instead of professors. You will also miss the happiness of getting an unexpected holiday.

Your hostel room is going to be a place of great memories. It will witness breakups, patch-ups, and you at your best and worse. Sri City and the college will become your second home.

The early morning sunrises, evening strolls around the campus as well as the petrichor of the rain right after the blistering summer in May are things you will come to appreciate. While you might enter as a frightened fresher, you will be leaving as an experienced graduate. You will learn to become independent and will have gone through some of life’s toughest lessons.

In other words, you will come to love this place so much, you will definitely have tears in your eyes as you leave from here on your last day. Some of your best days will be from IIIT Sri City.

Is it necessary to stay in hostel if you study at IISC bangalore?

SB
Saikat Banerjee Posted On : July 18th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc)

No, it is not compulsory to stay in a hostel if you are a student at IISc Bangalore. You can become a day scholar too, but trust me if you do so you will be missing out on a huge part of your experience, hostel life. But there are several merits of staying in a hostel.

  • The lush green campus and the serene experience of cycling to and fro the hostel is a unique experience.
  • The night walk with your friends after a long tiring day will help you boost your stress.
  • Staying in the hostel is safer than staying outside as the hostel and campus are well-guarded and strict security measures are taken.
  • Attending seminars becomes easier as you can reach the venue within 5 minutes.
  • The most important part of staying in the hostel is group studying and group assignments.
  • The classes have no fixed timings so as a day scholar you might find it difficult to come back again.
  • The mess and hostel charges are very low and you get excellent facilities even at such a low price.
  • Students get to spend their leisure time doing their favorite activities including swimming pool, basketball court, badminton court, hockey ground, cricket ground, archery classes, aerobics classes, and many more.

So, it depends on you if you want to enjoy the comfort of your home and become a day scholar or enjoy your hostel life to the fullest.

What is the total cost incurred in doing your MBA from NMIMS Mumbai?

S
Sneha Posted On : February 28th, 2023
Lived in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

The following answer is based on my brother’s experience at NMIMS and may vary from person to person depending on their own personal expenses and standard of living. The table below shows the NMIMS MBA fee structure.

Particulars

Data

Total Fees

INR 23.90 Lakhs

Hostel fees (Non-Refundable)

INR 2,25,000- 3,00,000

Hostel fees (Refundable)

INR 10,000

From the above data the approximate cost is 26-27 Lakhs. The additional expenses like hanging out, fares, and miscellaneous activities can amount to 1 Lakh.

Now let’s consider you staying in a flat and not a hostel. The MBA fees remain the same. But the living expenses are considerably cut down. My friend lives in a flat with 5 people and shared her average expenses.

  • The rental expense was 10k
  • The security deposit was 1 lakh
  • 6-8k per month for electricity bills and grocery shopping
  • An additional 2-3k for hanging out
  • The average auto fare would be 3k per month
  • The rough average is 20k per month and if you calculate the same for 21 months it amounts to 4.2 Lakh.

The total expenses including tuition fees amount to 30-33 Lakhs. I think it’s better to go to a hostel than to a flat.

How are hostel facilities for M.Tech / MS / Direct PhD students at IIT Madras?

RS
Rohan Shah Posted On : February 5th, 2024
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2018)

Hostels of IIT Madras have the same facilities for UG, PG and Phd. students. Some hostels accommodate both UGs and PGs. M.Techs, MS students and Research scholars are given single seater rooms, but this is subject to availability. Else, they have to share a room with one or two other students. The hostel facilities are decent.

Are the girls living in the campus hostel of IIM Ahmadabad or IIM Indore allowed to go out of campus? If yes, till when and what are the procedures?

AJ
Arshit Jain Posted On : January 9th, 2023
CSE IITK'15, IIMA Batch of 2015-17

At IIM Ahmedabad, there are no restrictions on hostel timings, clothing, or entry of the opposite gender. Without any restrictions, all students are free to leave and return to campus whenever they want.

There are no restrictions on what students can wear anywhere on campus, including in class. The only exception to this rule is that students should dress formally for company presentations.

Students have complete freedom to visit the other gender's hostels whenever they want. Many of my friends had, for all practical purposes, shifted to their girlfriends' hostel rooms and were rarely seen in their own hostels. IIM Ahmedabad gives its students a lot of freedom and believes in the spirit of personal responsibility.

All IIM Indore students, including female students, are permitted to leave campus. There are campus buses that leave at regular intervals. One can also book their own transportation. The only restriction is that everyone must return by 11:30 pm unless there is a valid reason to be outside, such as a late-night flight.
