Which is better, IIM Kozhikode or IIM Udaipur?

S
Sagardeep Posted On : February 2nd, 2023
MBA, IIM Ahmedabad '19 || BA LLB (Hons), RMLNLU '17

It is true that, at the moment, IIM Kozhikode is regarded as being a more powerful institution than IIM Udaipur. This is most likely due to the fact that IIM Kozhikode has been in operation for a longer period of time and has had more time to build its reputation and resources. However, it is important to note that this comparison is not entirely fair because IIM Udaipur is a relatively new institution with less time to develop than IIM Kozhikode.

In the long run, things could change and IIM Udaipur could eventually compete with IIM Kozhikode on a level playing field. This would almost certainly necessitate IIM Udaipur continuing to invest in its resources and reputation, while also ensuring that IIM Kozhikode does not continue to outpace it. Furthermore, it would necessitate IIM Kozhikode to slip from its position of relative strength, which is not guaranteed.

It is important to note that when comparing institutions, it is important to consider more than just their reputation or past performance. Other factors to consider include location, campus culture, industry connections, and the quality of faculty and students. Finally, it is up to each student to determine which institution is the best fit for them.

Which one should I prefer: IIIT Allahabad dual, IIIT Amethi IT, SGSITS (Indore) ME, or MANIT Civil?

AG
Aditya Ghosh Posted On : March 17th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior (IIITMG) (2018)

First of all, forget about SGSITS Indore as it stands nowhere in front of IIIT and MANIT. If you are looking for good placement and salary then forget MANIT Civil too. The only options you are now left with are - IIIT Allahabad dual and IIIT Amethi IT. Clearing things about IIIT Amethi, it has been closed and have been moved to IIIT Allahabad.

The table shows a brief overview of the institutions:

Particulars

IIIT Allahabad

SGSITS

MANIT

Median Salary

Rs. 20 lakhs

Rs. 3 lakhs

Rs. 6.23 lakhs

Highest Salary

Rs. 43 lakhs

Rs. 5 lakhs

Rs. 27 lakhs

Entrance Criteria

JEE Main

JEE Main

JEE Main

Fees

Rs. 5.85 lakhs

Rs. 2.83 lakhs

Rs. 2.31 lakhs

There is no point in spending extra two years pursuing M.Tech at IIIT Allahabad because if you are interested in a PG Degree then you can prepare for GATE during UG. Doing so will get you admission at any IITs which would be better for your career.

It is better to go for IIIT Allahabad and if you feel to go for PG then prepare, get a good score and go for IITs. Otherwise, you can always go for placements and will probably land up a very good job.

Which course is better to join, NIT Silchar, ECE, or a 5-year course of CSE at IIITDM Kancheepuram?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : October 18th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

The record of placement statistics at NIT Silchar and IITDM Kancheepuram has been relatively the same in recent years. The core recruiters who are working on AR and VR grab students from the CSE department, especially those who are skilled in coding. IITDM Kacheepuram has an added advantage for the students as they offer design courses other than core courses, which is beneficial during the interview session. IITDM is also leading in offering efficient classes, experienced faculties, good infrastructure, and hostel facilities to the students.

The final decision should be made based only on your interests.

Can I prefer SPJIMR over IIM IKL?

PZ
Pritesh Zaveri Posted On : March 6th, 2023
MBA in Finance (college major), S P Jain School of Global Management (Graduated 2019)

Yes, one can definitely choose SPJIMR over the three IIMs IKL. To answer the why part, I have individually compared each IIM to SPJIMR and justified why SPJIMR is a better choice in all the 3 cases.

IIM Indore

SPJIMR over IIM Indore is a choice as everyone is aware of the huge batch size at IIM Indore which becomes a major obstacle during placements. Moreover, it gives a lot of weightage to past academics so it’s not a good option for those who fared average during 10 and 12 but are now ready to face challenges.

IIM Kozhikode

The only aspect in which Kozhikode has an upper hand when compared to SPJIMR is the campus beauty and I am sure this is not the most important criterion for judging a college at all. SPJIMR offers a more innovative and structured curriculum, a smaller batch size combined with the chance to live in the city of Dreams. The only aspect that it lacks in comparison to Kozhikode is the fact that you have to choose your specialization during admission itself whereas Kozhikode gives you a year's time to do so. Then again if you are certain of your specialization, nothing is better than SPJIMR.

IIM Lucknow

Honestly speaking many might consider IIM Lucknow a tad bit better than SPJIMR and rightly so. When it comes to consulting and Finance, IIM Lucknow is a better option. It also attracts the best profile and not the kind accepted at SPJIMR. Additionally, the batch comprises IITians majorly who are there for the tag. These geniuses create tough competition which is lacking in the case of SPJIMR. This turns out to be a benefit for SPJIMR as students who are not at the top are able to get good roles at top consulting firms. So in terms of Finance, Consulting, and IIM tag, IIM Lucknow seems to be better but is similar to SPJIMR in all other aspects.

Is NIT Tadepalligudam better than Amrita?

SH
Saboor Ul Haq Posted On : April 22nd, 2021
B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (2019)

It is quite unreachable and good faculty is not available too for teaching on time. My sister studies at one of the old NITs which are much better as far as networking and alumni support are concerned; they are better than the NIT you're enquiring about. Its ranking is not clearly available on major ranking platforms also.

Apart from this, you may want to note these down-

  • Do not select any of the following NIT campuses: Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram, Puducherry, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim.
  • NIT Andhra Pradesh was established in September 2015 and hence, there's a dearth of good companies and excellent jobs.
  • If you're moving there from another state, then I'd advise you to spare the effort because the crowd is not very bright.
  • The central government has not made any provision for the allocation of funds for NIT Andhra Pradesh, but you'd find that huge sums have been invested in IIT Hyderabad and NIT Warangal.

However, NIT is still in its developing phase, it has the potential to become as successful as its other namesakes but being new, permanent faculty is still to be recruited, some equipment is missing too, but being dedicated you might excel even there.

Now, I hope you'd understand that there are much better institutes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana like JNTUH, JNTUK, IIT Hyderabad, IIIT Hyderabad etc. Well-known companies would actually like to recruit from these institutions rather than from NIT AP.

What should I choose between MDI Gurgaon and IIM Udaipur?

BS
Bhavya Sharma Posted On : March 31st, 2021
MBA from Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (2018)

MDI Gurgaon is the better option among the two because of its location, placements, and even for the competitions and live projects that it offers.

Category

IIM UDAIPUR

MDI GURGAON

Ranking

#17 by NIRF

#10 by NIRF

Total Fee

15.5 lakhs

23.58 lakhs

Companies Visited

Accenture, Casio, Hindustan Unilever, etc.

Airtel, Cipla, ITC, etc.

Highest Package

27.5 lakhs

40.79 lakhs

Some more reasons are listed below:

  • MDI Gurgaon has an extensively wide and large alumni base. It also has a stronger academic team and its reputation had been built by them for years in the industry.
  • Although IIM Udaipur is new, it is an exceptionally good college and it has alumni at most of the middle management positions in the industry.
  • It is important to consider the tag of the IIM as it is not an argument here and should not be considered at all.
  • IIM Udaipur will be taking a long time to get the type of reputation that the older IIMs have as it is a new IIM. Yet, it can be asserted that IIM Udaipur will reach there as it has the support of the Human Resource and Development Ministry (HRD).

The main question that arises is “When is this going to happen?”. Therefore, it is important to understand that IIM Udaipur has not yet achieved the mark to be compared with colleges like MDI, Gurgaon.

It all depends on you – if you want to invest in the long shot and be recognized as one of those students who were a part of the early alumni or you would want to invest in an already established institution and make the most of your course.

Which one is a better college for B.Com? Is it Amity University, Kolkata or Scottish Church College, Kolkata or Bhawanipur Education Society, Kolkata?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : May 15th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

The ‘better’ college for you depends on a lot of factors and is subjective in nature. Here is a glimpse of all the 3 colleges to make a more informed decision

  • Amity University is decent with a great placement scenario and other ECA's. The students get better experience and exposure in comparison to the other 2 colleges. However, Amity is quite expensive.
  • Bhawanipur College’s most lucrative aspect is the zero attendance policy wherein you can get a degree despite 0% attendance. This spares you enough time to concentrate on your professional courses like CA or CS.
  • Scottish Church College is a decent college with an average academic environment. It maintains a balance between academics and extracurriculars and you can enjoy your college time to the fullest here.

Ultimately, it’s your decision which Institute to go for!
