Which is better after graduate in civil: an M.Tech in transportation engineering from an IIT, or construction management from an IIT or NICMAR?
IIT Delhi and IIT Madras offer a Post-Graduation in Construction Technology and Management. To secure a seat at either of the institutes, you must obtain a good rank in the GATE examination.
IIT Delhi gives more weightage to the technical aspects of the course, while NICMAR focuses more on the managerial aspects of Construction. The curriculum of the course is unmatched, yet the placements, at times, can be quite unanticipated.
Both the courses are quite equivalent to each other on various stages whatsoever. But, when the decision boils down to which among the both is better, then IIT Delhi might win the race.
Now, the Transportation Engineering department from IITs is indeed a great course. The average package some of my seniors from this course secured was about INR 5 LPA. However, by all means, your placement partially also depends upon whether or not you are typically prepared for it.
Why is SIMSREE rated behind KJ Somaiya and Welingkar by some sites?
SIMSREE is ranked differently on various websites. You do not have to follow these rankings. Both institutions are equally good.
- Cut-offs of SIMSREE are greater than K. J. Somaiya Institute of Management.
- The infrastructure and facilities of the K. J. Somaiya Institute of Management is better than SIMSREE.
- Both the institutes have top students and faculty is also good as JBIMS professors also visit SIMSREE. This makes it better than Somaiya.
- The course you are choosing also depends on the college.
One of my friends is studying at SIMSREE and said its MMS program is better than Somaiya. For PG, Somaiya is better because of its diversity.
Therefore, college rankings are not always correct. SIMSREE is still better than most of the Management institutes that provide quality education to students.
I am a first year student of IIT Kharagpur. I am not in any society. I have a bad CGPA. Is there anything I can do?
This is a common problem among freshers at IIT Kharagpur. Their CGPA is initially very low and they fail to become a part of any society. While this certainly is a crucial issue, it can be addressed so you don’t have to worry too much and demotivate yourself. Here are 3 simple ways to overcome this problem
- Academics: Before anything comes academics. So the first thing you should do to come out of such an issue is to improve your CGPA. This isn’t that difficult since one can easily score well by just studying 1-2 weeks prior to exams in IITs. Attend all classes and find the subject that is your strength and work on it.
- Focus on skills not resume: Shift the focus from building a sound resume to inculcating sound skills. For instance, the dramatics society will add to your speaking skills and confidence. The same can be achieved by just interacting more with people and attending inter-halls. One does not have to build their resume but their skill only. Hosting your department festival will provide you with managerial skills. So work on such activities and don’t run after societies.
- Take things lightly: Like Steve Jobs once said, “The best resumes never change the world.”, he literally proved it. Neither did he have a good GPA nor was he part of a good society, yet today he is among the richest and most successful people on Earth. Not being a part of society can be taken positively. One has a lot of free time on his hands and can invest the same in interesting things and learn new things.
So the key is to work on your academics, develop skills and take it easy.
How is AFMC better than AIIMS Delhi?
While the majority of medical aspirants would prefer AIIMS over AFMC, my sister was a different breed and was adamant about AFMC. Here are a few pros she shared of AFMC that made her choose it over AIIMS.
- The doctors here are relatively healthy and fit unlike AIIMS doctors that are always sleep-deprived
- Because of less competition, you are assured of a PG seat.
- The small batch results in a close-knitted family and you always have downtime to help you in your time of need.
- The mess etiquettes here are very unique and you will end up loving the food here.
- Every sport and hobby is promoted here through a number of clubs Name any sport or hobby.
- Pune has been declared as the happiest city in Maharashtra in India. You get to experience the beautiful city life and Mumbai is not far away.
- The classroom lectures are well delivered by ever-present professors.
These are some points that make AFMC unique in contrast to AIIMS.
How do VIT and Thapar compare?
I have a few friends from both VIT and Thapar. I will suggest you opt for Thapar University as it is one of the best colleges in this league.
Admission:
VIT and Thapar University both conduct an entrance examination for the selection of their candidates. However, VIT does not reveal the scores obtained by the candidates. At Thapar, admission is done on the basis of JEE Main marks. Moreover, both the admission and counseling procedure are translucent and there is no Management Quota. At VIT one can get admission on the basis of the category system whereas, at Thapar, the quality (merit-based) is given more preference.
Batch Size:
The number of students at Thapar University per branch is less in comparison to VIT where there is a crowd on a huge level.
FCCS System:
At Thapar FCCS system is present. It is a system that allows the students to choose the timings of their own classes and the respective teachers for those classes.
Although the facilities provided to the students at the VIT campus are exceptional you should not risk your academic career for mere facilities.
You should rather prioritize Thapar and try for a branch of your choice. If you do not get into it then opting for VIT would be better. But keep VIT as your second option.
Which of these colleges is better for computer science: BIT Mesra or IIIT Delhi?
Among these, IIIT Delhi is the better choice for a Computer Science degree. It is a research institute, so you will get to learn through hands-on experience, and projects, rather than just theory. IIIT Delhi CSE syllabus puts more emphasis on core subjects. You will study subjects like Intro to Programming, and Systems Management, from the first year itself.
The programming community at IIIT Delhi is amazing. They have clubs like Byld and Foobar. IIIT Delhi will offer you endless opportunities to upskill yourself.
In terms of placements, IIIT Delhi and BITS Mesra are almost on the same level. As per the 2021 placement highlights, the average CTC for IIIT Delhi was INR 14 LPA.
Which is tougher to survive, BCG/McKinsey or IIM Ahmedabad?
Life at BCG/McKinsey is more difficult. During your B-School years, you will have fewer numbers of distractions like social commitments, attending to family, etc. So, you can easily focus on your studies. The perform or perish culture makes life at BCG/McKinley more nerve-wracking.
These companies pick 2-3% of the top students from the most reputed B-Schools in the country, so competition is way higher.
How is M.Tech in CSE from NIT Jamshedpur?
NIT Jamshedpur, for any student, can be a good choice. However, it can be a good choice only if there is no further option left. In all the options that you have, the first try you should ever have is to enroll in IITs. On the other hand, if not IITs, then your second try should at least be for absolutely any tier-I NITs, such as the ones in the South.
Although, when you run out of your choices between institutions like IITs and tier-I NITs, then choosing NIT Jamshedpur as your last option is not considered overall a very bad choice.
NIT Jamshedpur is an institute that comes with brand value, which mainly is its USP. It is fundamentally well renowned across everyone for the CSE department, which has rather earned its name for being the most sought branch in the whole institution.
However, when speaking of the placement reports, it speaks otherwise. This means the overall placement record for almost all the branches in the institution is not highly praised. But, the improvement in the placement reports is somehow seen to climb the upper side recently.

There are several companies, such as INTEL, and DELL that recently have approached the institution with propositions to provide students internship opportunities. It is rather good news for NIT Jamshedpur.
