What is the list of famous case studies taught at IIM Ahmedabad?

R
Rajnath Posted On : February 11th, 2021
MBA from IIMA (2020)

It is tough to list cases over different subjects as there is a huge number of cases available. It is very doubtful that the same cases will remain popular always. It completely depends upon the faculty who decides to choose the cases for explaining a concept.

Case-studies:

  • The faculty are generally suggested to use cases within the last five to ten years. This is essential for maintaining the currency of the subject.
  • For instance, a course on e-commerce taught with a case developed in the early years of the internet will not be relatable for the students. As a lot has changed in the start-up domain. Currently, a case on Ola will make a lot more sense to the students than how the HDFC Bank introduced internet banking.
  • For an executive program at IIM, one of my teachers chose a case on Yahoo immediately after Marissa Mayer took over and asked the students to design a strategy for Yahoo. As the conclusions in Yahoo unfolded it made a lot more sense to the students to compare their own perspective with what Meyer did.

One of my friends' field was Information Technology. Some of the cases, he studies during his diploma are as follows.

  • ERP implementation at CISCO.
  • E-commerce at Dell.

The cases developed by IIMA are still the Harvard cases which are more popular at IIMA. There are several cases available from Stanford, Columbia, and some Asian business schools as well.

Can I prepare for JEE and IIM Indore IPM at the same time?

DD
Divya Dhara Posted On : August 27th, 2021
Studied at Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies, Pune (2019)

After doing my research about this on the internet, I can say that JEE and IPM are very different. Here are some things you should know about before making any decision.

  • If you are planning to join an engineering college, you should know that the JEE is the sole criteria for it along with your marks from your boards.
  • This exam will cover the most essential topics you need and you should be ready to give other entrances with the prep for JEE.
  • If you do well in the JEE, you will get into a promising engineering college.
  • When it comes to IPM IIM Indore, let me tell you that the course you are looking at is an integrated course initiated by the college.
  • The entrance test will include all the topics you will have studied in your higher secondary books.
  • You can also prepare for English and logic-based questions.
  • If you will be preparing for JEE, you shall be prepared for chemistry, math, and physics for sure as these subjects will overlap with the IPM entrance exam and could be easier in this test.
  • As far as languages are concerned, if you have good command of English, you are good to go.

JEE will help you enroll in an engineering course whereas you will enter into the field of management if you score well on the IPM. It finally boils down to your interests.

What are the distinguishing qualities of SVNIT, Surat?

TS
Trisha Sharma Posted On : January 9th, 2024
Studied at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat

SVNIT is a well-reputed engineering college.

Here are some of its distinguishing qualities-

  1. The campus is very charming, and it changes color with changing seasons.
  2. The senior junior interaction is very healthy, so we tend to call seniors as sir or ma’am out of respect and admiration instead of fear.
  3. “Lite Hai” is a popular phrase on campus, and even professors use it sometimes. The phrase means- it’s fine/doesn’t matter.
  4. Divider is the meetup spot of every friends’ group.
  5. Like any other NIT, the crowd is richly diverse. We get to meet people from various backgrounds on the campus. This exposure has played a great role in shaping our personality.
  6. The student chapters of SVNIT are nationally reputed. Some of them are- ACM, SAE, IEEE, AIESEC, SPICMACAY, etc. The Hack InOut of SVNIT is one of the best in India.
  7. The girls in Mechanical are admired for choosing the branch (because it is usually preferred by boys).

SVNIT is a unique experience in itself, and you’ll come to adore this college.

Which IIT is better for mechanical engineering, IIT Gandhinagar or IIT Dhanbad?

Namrata Das Posted On : October 11th, 2023

There are many reasons why one must consider choosing IIT Gandhinagar over IIT Dhanbad. IT Dhanbad is only known for its mining and petroleum engineering so pursuing Mechanical Engineering from there isn’t a wide choice. Moreover, IIT Gandhinagar enjoys a location advantage in comparison to Dhanbad. Another added advantage is that IIT Gandhinagar lets you complete BTech in 3.5 years. Given below are some other reasons why choosing IIT Gandhinagar will be more beneficial

Why you could choose IIT Gandhinagar?

  • IIT Gandhinagar offers better research opportunities
  • The international exposure offered at IIT Gandhinagar is unmatched.
  • The institute is well-known for its flexible curriculum. Students can pursue electives like Management, Cognitive Science, CSE, Electrical, Physics, and Humanities apart from studying Mechanical subjects.
  • IIT Gandhinagar has a very beautiful campus.
  • Beautiful Campus
  • The faculty is very approachable and the alumni and student connection is strong.
  • An environment conducive to Entrepreneurship and innovation.

Overall, I would suggest you go for IIT Gandhinagar!

Is IIT Kharagpur a good place to study Computer Science?

SG
Senjuti Gupta Posted On : March 24th, 2023
studied at IIT Kgp

It is not an unknown fact that the CSE department of IIT Kharagpur is the best of the entire institute and has amazing academic records. So I will be discussing things that are not academically relevant

  • IIT KGP has an entire hospital (B.C. Roy Technology Hospital) on campus, providing free medicines and treatment to all students.
  • Every hall of residence has its own stationary, grocery, and photocopy shops.
  • There is also an in-campus Tech market that has all necessities.
  • In addition to the mess and hall canteens of the hostel, there is a Cafe Coffee Day, a Baskins Robbins, a Subway outlet and numerous restaurants to satisfy your taste buds.
  • The sports facilities include Basketball courts, Football grounds, and indoor games as well. Every hostel has its own sports facilities and Television (common room).
  • IIT Kharagpur has 24/7 internet facilities with speeds of 4-8 Mbps.
  • Lastly, IIT KGP has the largest technical library in Asia that is stacked with reputed engineering journals.

To sum it up, IIT Kharagpur is a good place for students considering joining the CSE branch.

How can I get transcripts for all marksheets from PTU?

SS
Sanghita Saha Posted On : August 24th, 2023
Studied at PTU

One of my friends in PTU struggled for around 2 years to get the result and mark sheets of his BCA degree. Sharing his experience, he told me that getting a mark sheet for a regular course was easier than for a Distance one. The institute does not offer the distance course anymore and the ex-students find it very difficult to procure the transcripts. Here are two ways you can try if you are stuck in a similar situation

  • Through the support center: You will be glad to know that PTU has a support center where you can sign up directly. All you need to do is raise a ticket for your queries and the support center will assist you in solving the query. My friend did the same and he was informed about the process of getting transcripts within 1-2 working days. He had to pay Rs- 200/- through the demand draft as a postal charge and your mark sheets will be delivered to your given address.
  • Visiting the campus : Ask your LC to visit the University Campus to sort out the issue. In case he refuses to go, you can personally visit the campus along with the required documents. You might even get mark sheets on the spot once all the formalities are done.

Hope this helps you!

A
Admin Posted On : July 2nd, 2024

IIT Roorkee and IIT BHU are both highly reputed institutions, and both are well-known for their engineering programs. However, IIT Roorkee is better than IIT BHU in terms of its brand value.

Here is a comparison between IIT Roorkee and IIT BHU based on various factors:

Parameters IIT Roorkee IIT BHU
Year of Establishment 1847 1919
NIRF Engineering Ranking 2023 5 15
Highest Package 2023 INR1.3 CPA (Domestic)
INR 1.06 CPA (International)
INR 1.68 CPA
Top Recruiters 2023 BCG, Bajaj Auto, Flipkart, Tata Steel Uber, Flipkart, Microsoft

IIT Roorkee is a much older institution than IIT BHU. As a result, it has a greater brand name, a stronger alumni network, and more polished industry connections.

But even IIT BHU is a renowned institution.

Both of these colleges have a rich legacy, but IIT Roorkee is certainly better.

My heart says FMS Delhi. My brain says IIM Calcutta. Where should I go?

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Working at PhonePe (app) (2018–present)

You should make an informed and logical decision rather than being irrational and believing that your heart says something different than your mind.

Getting to FMS vs. IIMC. Both are excellent business schools that have been in operation for many years. However, there is a reason why IIM ABC is mentioned in the same breath as the top three business schools in the country. Every ranking dating back decades has confirmed this. Every Indian is aware of it. FMS, while a good B School, is not compared to IIM ABC because they are superior in every way to any other B School.

When people say that the IIM tag is important, they are correct; however, how much it matters and for which IIMs is a different stories. Even the big four - PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, and E&Y - do not rank IIM ABC and IIM LKI equally. There is a distinct distinction. The rest of the time, you can deduce how much IIM ABC command the tag value over every other IIM. When compared to colleges that are not in the top 15, the tag matters for other IIMs. So, yes, the tag is important, but it is especially important for IIM ABC, which places a high value on the tag. This label is permanent for ABC graduates, but this cannot be said for other IIM graduates.

There are no parallels between IIM Calcutta and FMC Delhi. IIM C is far superior to and ahead of FMS. FMS is simply ranked lower than IIM ABC. You should think about it and make the right decision.

Yes, there are many PG accommodations available near PEC in Chandigarh for students who do not want to live in a hostel. Many private homeowners rent out rooms to students or working professionals who are looking for a place to stay. These PGs generally provide basic facilities like food, electricity, water supply, and sometimes, even WiFi.

What is the objective of admitting freshers in Ivy B-Schools like IIMs, FMS, JBIMS, SIMSREE, SPJIMR, XLRI, etc.?

SB
Sandeep Biswas Posted On : March 6th, 2023
GMP International Management, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (2018)

MBA admission in Indian B Schools is a fairly weird process in comparison to that of foreign B Schools. In India, the admission process requires a candidate to have some work experience and in certain B-schools, it even carries a certain weightage. But during Final Placements, this scenario changes entirely as the recruiters prefer freshers over experienced candidates. The major reasons for this contrast are:

  • The recruiters offering Marketing roles are on the lookout for candidates who can initially go through a sales job for a few years. They believe that the route to Marketing is through sales only. Now Sales requires a lot of traveling that too to rural areas. The recruiters know that these tough job conditions cannot be undertaken by Experienced professionals and thus prefer freshers who they can mold easily.
  • The companies offering Finance roles know that the candidates with prior work experience won’t be working for the long hours they require them to. So they prefer freshers who can work long hours without complaining.

Recruiters are looking for candidates with work experience of not more than 11-12 months. Honestly, this strategy is illogical as a person with more work experience is bound to excel much better than a fresher, and restricting him from getting a job just because they cannot be exploited to the fullest extent is a bit cruel.

The scenario is pretty much the opposite in foreign countries that prefer MBA candidates with work experience only. This is because in India MBA is considered a way to become more employable or earn a fatter cheque. Whereas in the West, it is a means to upgrade your career and take it to new heights. The entire concept of MBA is at fault in India thereby this illogical strategy.

In my opinion, MBA candidates should have a work experience of at least 1 year, only then they can harness the MBA program to the fullest and not approach it just as a source of placements.
