How many marks are needed for an OBC 3B category to qualify for the NIT Surathkal?

GN
Gopali Narayan Posted On : July 22nd, 2021
B.Tech Chemical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2023)

It is important to note that there is not any category division such as 3A, 3B, etc in the JOSAA counseling procedures. Only the OBC term is considered for all.

One of my friends is studying at NIT Surathkal and he got around 140-150 marks in JEE Main, his rank was around 50k in CRL, and around 13k in the OBC category. He got a seat in NIT Surathkal in Chemical ranch in Special rounds of JOSAA Counselling. He had secured a percentile of around 95.5.

If you want to get into any branch of NIT Surathkal, then you should try to score a minimum of 95% in JEE Mains in being on the safer side. For that, at least 150+ marks should be scored. With this score, one can surely get into NIT Surathkal. If you want a circuit branch then they should try scoring more marks.

Which of the two should I choose: IIT Dharwad EE or NITK Surathkal CSE?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 15th, 2023

Rather than choosing between institutes, choose the branch you are inclined towards. Determining your future prospects is an indispensable factor when choosing your college. You need to find out what you are willing to do after getting your degree; pursuing higher studies or getting employed.

Had I been in your place, I would have chosen NIT Surathkal because of the branch CSE you are getting. In this high-tech era, CSE is in full bloom and is one of the most coveted branches. Someone who is getting CSE at an NIT should never give that chance up for any other branch that too at a new IIT.

Here is why one should go for NIT Surathkal

  • NIT Surathkal fairs are better than IIT Dhanwad in terms of faculty, infrastructure, and placements.
  • NIT Surathkal has a stunning campus with its own private beach.
  • IIT Dhanwad does not even have half the companies that visit NITK Surathkal for placements.
  • NITK Surathkal is a well-established institute often compared to the IITs while IIT Dhanwad is yet to make its mark.

The following points prove enough that NITK Surathkal CSE is better than IIT Dhanbad EE. In fact, I would have chosen IIT Dhanwad CSE over electrical or other core branches at old IITs. however, my answer is not directed towards someone who has a particular interest in Electrical, for them IIT EE is the best.

Which is better, NIT Silchar's electrical or NIT Surathkal's metallurgy?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : August 31st, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

One of my friends studied in NIT Silchar and also has friends in NIT Hamirpur. I asked him the same question and he claimed NIT Hamirpur to be a better choice.

Stating reasons for the same he said:

  • NIT Hamirpur campus is extremely beautiful and well-equipped with modern facilities.
  • The level of academics is better at NIT Hamirpur than at NIT Silchar.
  • The faculty pool of NIT Harimpirbis more experienced and approachable.

The major issue that NIT Silchar faces is the connectivity between cities. As a result, many recruiters are interested in coming here affecting the placement scenario and crowd quality largely. NIT Hamirpur on the other hand is located close to Delhibso the exposure r and opportunities are better.

Which is worth taking, BITS Hyderabad ECE or NIT Surathkal ECE?

JS
Juby Sam Posted On : November 5th, 2022
B.E (Hons.) from BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus.

To be honest, it depends on who you are and what you are looking for.

BITS Hyderabad is completely lenient. You will learn if you want to, otherwise, things could go horribly wrong. But one thing is certain: no matter which branch you choose, BITS Hyderabad will assist you in discovering your true passion.

NIT Surathkal, on the other hand, is one of the top NITs where a certain percentage of attendees is required. That's beside the point. If you truly feel and believe that your true interest lies in ECE, it is safer to enroll at NIT Suratkal. However, no other college or university can offer you the freedom that BITS can.

It is always recommended to choose what you feel is good for you and work accordingly.

What are the marks required for the JEE Mains to get into NIT Surathkal for mechanical engineering?

RM
Rachita Mitra Posted On : July 8th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2020)

The degree of difficulty of JEE MAIN varies every year. A great score one year may not be necessarily a great score next year. Some years paper is very easy and everyone gets high scores so the cutoff required also becomes high. The opposite is also true.

So what you can do is keep your focus on All India Ranks of JEE Mains and go through to the cutoffs as admission is based on that.

Here are the cutoff trends for Mechanical Engineering at NIT Surathkal in recent years.

Category

OS

General

5375-7896

6315-11788

OBC

What should I choose and why, NITK CS or BITS Goa CS?

PB
Piyali Bose Posted On : August 3rd, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

Since most of my friends studied at BITS Goa. It is suggested you go for it, as my friends had nothing but good things to say about the institute. According to them, it is the best institute for CS without any doubt.

  • BITS Goa has no reservation policies, the peers are quite competitive, so be prepared for that.
  • Moreover, the only flaw is that it can be expensive for financially weak students.
  • But this institute provides scholarships which is a great solution to this problem.
  • If we talk about the Computer Science department, you will get to learn a lot as it is the best program on Goa Campus.
  • Furthermore, BITS Pilani and Goa have the best culture when it comes to coding.
  • Besides academics, the campus is well maintained, the hostels are all hygienic and the food of mess is also appreciable.
Categories CS at BITS Goa
Course Fee 19.19 lakhs
Course Duration 4 years
Placement Percentage 90%
Highest CTC 30-35 LPA
Average CTC 24-25 LPA
Recruiting Companies Oracle, KPMG, Wipro, Capgemini, etc.

BITS Goa has been listed among the top 5 IITs in the GSoC selections every year. It has remarkably beaten up some prominent IITs.

What is better to choose between NIT Surathkal IT and BITS Goa ECE?

SS
Shreeyash Sethiya Posted On : August 24th, 2021
Studies CSE at NIT Warangal, 2022

If you are efficient and hard-working, then NIT Surathkal can be the best choice for you. If not, then you can go for BITS Goa.

Depending upon various factors, the IT department of NIT Surathkal is slightly better. It is so because it is one of the most reputed NITs in the country, and IT is several steps ahead of ECE.

If BITS Pilan would have been your other option, the thoughts would have turned around. But since it is BITS Goa, then your choice must remain NIT Surathkal.

Which has better hostel facilities, NIT Surathkal or NIT Warangal?

Megha Rohilla Posted On : June 2nd, 2021

One of my relatives has resided in NIT Warangal hostels. Based on his experience, I can give the following information:

  • NIT Warangal has Asia's biggest hostel and it is given to B.Tech, M.Tech, and BCA freshers. There are both single and double rooms.
  • On the ground floor, there is a snacks corner, Amul shop, and coffee and tea shops as well. This is a hangout place for all the students.
  • There is another big hostel which is given to 3rd and 4th-year students with single and double rooms.
  • For girls, the hostels are not as good as the boys’ hostels.
  • In the first year, you will be accommodated with 4 people in one room due to space issues.
  • You will also be restricted from moving out of the hostel at any time during 1st year.
  • For the second-year students, an old hostel is provided where the washrooms desperately need renovation and the rooms are not in good condition.
  • For 3rd and 4th year, you might get good rooms which will be spacious and comfortable. Although new hostels are being developed, the facilities might change in the coming years.

When talking about NIT Surathkal, the hostel facilities are fine. In the 1st and the 2nd year, you will have sharing rooms. From the 3rd year onwards you will get single accommodations. Internet connectivity in the hostels is not very good. The girls are provided washing machines. There is a night canteen on the hostel premises. For boys, there are no in and out timings.

I am getting IT branch in NIT Surathkal and CS branch in IIIT Bangalore, which one should I opt?

RS
Rita Sarkar Seth Posted On : April 12th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2019)

When it comes to choosing a college and a branch for your undergraduate studies in computer science, it's important to consider various factors such as the quality of education, faculty, infrastructure, and most importantly, the placement prospects.

Firstly, IIIT Bangalore is exclusively dedicated to information technology and computer science education, while NIT Surathkal offers a wide range of engineering courses including IT and CS. However, CS at IIIT Bangalore and IT at NIT Surathkal has comparable curriculums, and you can expect to learn programming languages, algorithms, databases, networking, software engineering, and more.

Let's take a look at the current placement statistics of both colleges in their CS branch:

  • IIIT Bangalore: The average placement package for the CS branch is around 13 lakhs per annum, with top recruiters including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, and more. The highest package offered is around 50 lakhs per annum. The placement rate is around 95%, and most students get placed within the first few days of the placement season.
  • NIT Surathkal: The average placement package for the IT branch is around 8-9 lakhs per annum, while the CS branch has a slightly higher average package of around 10-11 lakhs per annum. The top recruiters include Microsoft, Amazon, Oracle, IBM, and more. The highest package offered is around 42 lakhs per annum. The placement rate is around 90%, and some students get placed in non-technical roles as well.

Now, let's talk about the other aspects of these colleges:

  • Faculty: Both IIIT Bangalore and NIT Surathkal have experienced and qualified faculty members who are dedicated to providing quality education and guidance to students.
  • Infrastructure: IIIT Bangalore has a modern and well-equipped campus with state-of-the-art labs, a library, hostels, sports facilities, and more. NIT Surathkal has a vast and sprawling campus with good facilities, although some departments may lack the latest equipment.
  • Location: IIIT Bangalore is located in the heart of the city, making it easily accessible and providing plenty of opportunities for internships, projects, and collaborations with industry. NIT Surathkal is located in a scenic coastal town, which may be preferable for some students who enjoy a quieter environment.

In conclusion, both IIIT Bangalore and NIT Surathkal are excellent choices for pursuing a career in IT or CS. However, if you prioritize a CS certificate, slightly higher average placement packages, and a central location, IIIT Bangalore may be a better option for you.
