Should I go for civil at NIT Sikkim or petroleum at Dehradun?
Many students go through this dilemma and the right way to choose a college is to compare them on various aspects. As some of my friends are from these institutes, I can provide a bit of information about them.
- NIT Sikkim is a very popular and reputed engineering institute but the college in Dehradun is not much reputed and also has less popularity.
- To get admission to NIT Sikkim, you will have to clear the JEE exam.
- But the college in Dehradun is a private college and you will have to sit for an exam conducted by the college to get admission.
Civil Engineering Department of NIT Sikkim
- The students in this department are very talented and more than 50% of the students have scored more than 8 GPAs in their 3rd semester.
- The faculty of this department is decent enough and very cooperative.
- The weather here is very pleasant and the campus is very beautiful.
- The infrastructure is not good enough as in private colleges. The lab facilities available in this department are also poor.
- The placements at NIT Sikkim are very good. There will be PSUs and many other popular companies visiting the college, so the numbers are likely to increase further.

Hence, NIT Sikkim is a very good college to pursue civil engineering and you should definitely go for it over any other private institution. It will give various opportunities which will be very helpful for your career.
How is LNCT Bhopal for EEE?
If you are considering doing an EEE from anywhere in Bhopal, please reconsider. Be it LNCT or OIST or RGPV, none of them provide you with good opportunities that you may push your career forward.
The syllabus of EEE is very vast and hard to grasp. It is considered one of the toughest branches. One of my friends opted for it and she thinks that it was a big mistake.
Getting good grades with just an average amount of studies sounds like a dream because if you are not willing to work hard, this branch is not for you.
Most of the students like my friend accepted a career outside of their branch. Though it is somewhat disheartening for EEE students to get jobs in their core fields, even after investing 4 years in them. Most of them ended up in corporate houses or IT firms, doing technical jobs.
Which is better for a BTech, the MIT Manipal or the Nirma University?
MIT Manipal is a better option. It is counted among the top private technological institute in the country. It offers better facilities and good placement opportunities. Students receive an average package of around INR 8 LPA. MIT Manipal placements 2022 highlights show that the top 250 placement offers received an average CTC of INR 20.52 LPA. MIT brand name is also more popular.
Which is better for a B.Tech, MIT World Peace University, Pune or NMIMS Mumbai?
I can answer this question based on two factors:
- Experience and reputation: MIT Pune has been around for 44 years and has a long-standing reputation for excellence in engineering. On the other hand, NMIMS Mumbai is a relatively new institute, and its reputation is more focused on commerce and management studies.
- Perception and recognition: MIT Pune is more widely recognized and respected than NMIMS Mumbai, particularly in the field of engineering. This can be attributed to the institute's long-standing reputation and its alumni network.
My personal recommendation is MIT Pune over NMIMS Mumbai for B.Tech studies.
Which is better in terms of academics for CSE, placement, fee and location, NIT Arunachal, NIT Silchar or PEC Chandigarh?
My sister is an alumnus of NIT Arunachal Pradesh and has also visited NIT Silchar several times. As per her experience, the preference order to follow while making a choice between these institutes should be
- NIT Silchar > NIT Arunachal Pradesh>PEC
The reason I placed NIT Silchar first is because it has better rankings, and even the connectivity issues have been resolved. One can now reach Silchar by road, train and via air. This has improved the placement scenario to a great extent.
What is a better option between IT at IIEST Shibpur and ECE at NIT Jamshedpur?
One of my friends is a local of Jharkhand. He was eligible to get into all departments and ECE at NIT Jamshedpur except CSE, and he got into the same situation where he had to choose between IT at IIEST Shibpur and ECE at NIT Jamshedpur.
He chose IT at IIEST Shibpur and was satisfied with his decision. IIEST has a good campus which is given the INI tag, their seniors are also very good who motivate their juniors.

Completed with a good campus, great seniors, and recently been given the INI tag, it has the energy and enthusiasm to excel and the Director of IIEST is a great person. He works hard to improve the place.
Many of my friends study at NIT Jamshedpur. It has a good infrastructure but not in better condition. Newly constructed hostels at NIT are also good. But officials of NIT are not promising.
Therefore, IIEST Shibpur is a better choice as it will give you many opportunities and give you a better experience.
Is metallurgy in BIT SINDRI good?
Metallurgy in BIT SINDRI is one of the best courses offered there. Metallurgy is the most soughed branch students tend to choose. Metallurgy from BIT SINDRI is well known because of the following reasons.

- The batch is relatively small when compared to other branches. Which will be beneficial for your academics.
- Faculty members have been known to very friendly and supportive when it comes to doubts, assignments, research, etc.
There is a saying among students of the institute i.e. ‘metal is settled’ which means you can definitely get good placement opportunities if you work for it.
Is REVA University good for EEE in terms of teaching and placements?
Yes, the electrical engineering branch in REVA University is considered one of the best branches offered by REVA University.
- The faculty and their method of teaching are good. They are well experienced in dedicated fields.
- They have a well-equipped lab and provide quality education.
- Placements are good with decent salary packages offered to students, ranging from 3 to 7.5 LPA.
- If you maintain a good CGPA, you are bound to get a job offer in one of the top MNCs.

However, to get a job opportunity in the core sector, you may have to try a bit harder and opt for off-campus placements. So, overall REVA University is good for pursuing EEE.
Which is better, mechanical engineering from NIT Silchar, NIT Patna or NIT Goa regarding placements?
Having some friends studying in these institutes, I can say that as per what they mentioned, NIT Patna arrives with a better placement rate than the other two counterparts.
- In a nutshell, there are multiple core companies that visit the campus during the placement drive.
- These include major firms like Alston transport, L&T HED, L&T Constructions, Thermal, Havells, TATA Motors and many others.
- Other than these few, various other students secure placement offers in companies belonging to the IT sector and the Consultancy services.

But, apart from the factors mentioned above, NIT Silchar is several steps ahead because it has established one of the best campuses, unlike many. That is the only brownie point NIT Silchar enjoys. It is best if you still research vividly about the prospects implanted in either institutes, and see what suits you best.
Should I prefer ECE in IIITs like Kancheepuram, Guwahati, etc., mechanical at IIIT Jabalpur, or metallurgy at the top NITs Rourkela/Nagpur?
One thing you need to decide is what you prioritize more ECE, Metallurgy, or Mechanical. Because once you choose a subject you have to face the fact that your subject will determine where your career will go.
- IIITs surely give you the brand name with added facilities while you are pursuing a program and they have a better ranking than NITs.
- If you're really into the CSE or IT field, then IIITM Gwalior will give you the space to develop your dreams into reality.
- It's 2021 and the institute has begun a new CSE program, the IT one was already there.
- Keep in mind that with a rank of 23K, you can get into CSE at IIIT Sri City and IIIT Vadodara.
- If the branch is not of the highest importance for you, then go for these colleges in the order I've mentioned- NIT Nagpur->NIT Rourkela->IIIT Jabalpur->IIIT Kancheepuram.
If you look at the cut-offs for metallurgy of almost a decade ago, then you'll realise that they were so low compared to the ones now. In 2013, they fell considerably, hence now there's a chance, it may rise.
Do not rely on the cut-offs of previous years. It is always good to prepare for the worst case scenario and keep other options open.
